  1. I have been completely unmoved by nearly all wrestling deaths. This left me absolutely shocked and nearly in tears. I couldn't stop saying 'Oh my God' when I was reading all the further details this morning. 2 years after his best friend Eddie as well. And the timing with the death angle. Surreal, terrible, shocking, you can't put it into words. I can't believe it. Edit: Just to say thank God this forum exists, every other forum has about 40 pages on the subject, probably full of retarded comments I really don't want to read.
  2. I still don't get why they'd watse Foley in a match like that. Not to mention 5 Way matches are kind of silly.
  3. I think people are overstating these matches a bit though. The RVD match was mostly dull, and only worked in part due to the reaction of the crowd and RVD nearly killing himself with DDT's and stuff. The HHH match was great for the first 10 minutes or so, when they looked like they were going to take it somewhere, but the last 10 just degenerated into your typical WWE/HHH match. The Umaga match was a good brawl with some neat spots, but at no point had me excited or made me believe in it. The JBL match, similarly, didn't live up to its hype on various message boards or the standard set by the Eddie match, and was more a bunch of spots than a great match. Haven't seen the Khali or HBK bouts. I don't think he is though. I mean, yes, his selling is actually great, but I don't feel sympathy for him because I know he'll eventually come back, hit his sequence and win. I never feel he's in danger of losing. I don't think he's as good as Rock 2000 though. In what he actually does in the ring, he maybe even better, but Rock added little touched to his matches, and his charisma always showed through. He also outclasses Cena as an interview.
  4. Yeah, not surprised really, looks like they're both fufilling their potential that was talked about back in 2000. Their on opposite ends of the spectrum as well, Matt is always solid but rarely spectacular, wheread Jeff can be spectacular but a disaster as well. I think Jeff has the better matches in him though.
  5. See, I have no problem with people liking Cena, but I hate it when they reply with stuff like 'you don't like wrestling', 'you have no taste', and the most despicable one, 'Moves~!'. I mean, what's wrong with wanting a few different moves? I remember watching RVD v Jeff Hardy after not seeing any ECW, and being blown away with what they did. It isn't all about storytelling, fuck, I'll take a Necro match over a Danielson match any day of the week. I just find Cena's 'stories' boring, and I'd rather watch two guys mindlessly kick the crap out of each other than watch him work his formula. I understand why his formula is there, and it has kept him over with the kids and women, but I just don't like it. You brought up Rock and Austin and Flair and Lawler, Bix, but they had a lot more to their game then Cena. I can't see a heel Cena working a match with Angle like Austin did, for instance.
  6. The spot wasn't really built to or teased, or talked about much by the announcers, so when it happened, it didn't have as big an impact as you'd expect. That maybe why it doesn't get talked about, plus... A. Not that many people have seen the match anyway. B. The heat was molten throughout the whole match, so there wasn't just a huge pop for the dive.
  7. Yeal, well I wasn't saying any of the others are any good. Lawler was good from about 93-98, but he's crap now, he's cut down on the insulting comments. The rest are utter crap, I agree. And yes, Cole is better than in 1999, but that's hardly a reccomendation. Still the pseudo-indignation, still the tired old cliched about people 'stealing one', and his voice is really fucking annoying to boot. He's improved, but he could hardly have gotten worse.
  8. Yeah, but I watched him call the Armageddon PPV, and saw a few Finlay matches last year, and he was just as shit.
  9. Michael Cole is a terrible announcer. I haven't watched Smackdown for years because of him referring to every match as 'this thing', and telling us that Wrestler A 'stole one'. Seriously, the guy is just a bunch of terrible cliches, and has an annoying voice to boot. As for Cena, I'm not on the bandwagon yet, though I've only seen a handful of his recent matches. His promos though, continue to make me cringe, and his matches just seem a bit too similar, in that he gets his ass kicked until he's almost dead and makes a superhuman comeback to win. They should book him as decisively stronger than someone once in a while, and Orton should take the belt for a bit.
  10. ROH has fallen off so much since the consistently great shows of 2004 and first half of 2005. Now they rely on Japanese talent, and to be honest I can't see their PPV deal generating much money. If you look at who they've lost in the last 2 years... Low Ki Homicide Samoa Joe CM Punk Colt Cabana Doug Williams AJ Styles Raven Alex Shelley Jay Lethal All intruiging characters with a distinct style and personality. They've been replaced in the main event with... BJ Whitmer Delirious Jimmy Rave Brent Albirhgt Kevin Steen Roderick Strong Davey Richards All dull, boring, generic characters, with the exception of Delirious who's just plain annoying. Basically, at the moment, they've got Sydal and Jacobs, and not much else. They'd do well to get Necro in. But, yeah, the results of their shows just look so boring now, it's a case of seen it all before, but with better, more entertaining characters in the past.
  11. I think Flair needs to win the title close to Wrestlemania, then go down to either Orton or Cena. Orton because it will get him over even more than he already is, as the guy who retired Flair, and it would be a fitting end. Cena, because he's obviously the guy they're pushing, and it would probably make a decent moment to have the new guard beat the old guard. Either way, they should probably do it No DQ if they want a bloody match to remember, it's all very well wanting another classic Flair wrestling match, but it isn't going to happen.
  12. I loved this match when I saw it on one of those old NWA DVD's. Plenty of hate and cool bumps into the cage, and they kept a great pace up for the duration. may have to revisit it. My main issue with it the first time was the fact that they repeated quite a few spots; understandable due to the length, but still. And also how Steamboat, as the face, went back to the armlock about 20 minutes in; I know it was vastly different back then, but I couldn't get used to it. Still, great match.
  13. Oh, also I just thought I'd let people know that Scott, or Canada's Greatest Heel as he's known, died in a car crash at the weekend. He had the formerly really active Canada's Greatest Forum, for which I was a member for a while. Don't know if any of you knew him/knew of him.
  14. Bring back K-Kwik. Smarkschoice was good for discussion, but don't forget it was close to shutting down in the months before GWE because nobody was posting anything. But, yeah, I only really post here now, it's a nice quiet place I can let any feeling be known, without the whole world jumping on me. Post in UKFF Off Topic as well, but I wouldn't touch their wrestling section.
  15. Well, whatever, it just seems to me that they're just trying to portray him as violent and powerful. I'm sure if he found it completely racially innapropriate he would have asked them not to bring it up. It was a racial stereotype, but not really anymore. Fat people have generally been mocked with words like 'giant' and 'big bastard', yet nobody said that fat people may be offended when Big Show was called a 'big nasty bastard' or a 'big angry giant'. Certainly this is not the smartest move for the WWE, especially at a time when they're trying to gain mainstream attention, but I don't believe it's intentionally offensive.
  16. Is this guy a complete idiot? Well, shit, what an insult! But wait a minute...does Ricky Steamboat walk like a Dragon? Does Chris Benoit walk like a Wolverine? Does Batista show any physical characteristics of an animal? It's a gimmick, presumably to show Henry's strength and dominance, rather than any racial prejudices. And when they used to talk about Big Show's 'Gorilla like paw' or whatever, nobody complained. It seems to me it is Bruce Mitchell with the prejudices here, I'm sure many never even thought about Henry's creed when they referred to him as such, I personally thought it was a good nickname, and I would have thought they same were it given to Rikishi, Big Show, Albert or any dominant member of the roster.
  17. Right, thanks. I hated Wrestlemania 4, so I never did check out anything from 1988 in WWF. In fact, I've hardly watched any 80's WWF at all, never appealed to me.
  18. No, don't think I've ever even heard of it before.
  19. Am I missing something here? Anyway, perhaps it will be remembered for years to come, but it seems to me people are just on a big high with WWE now, and are tending to overhype everything. Just an outsiders view really, I haven't been watching the shows so I can't make a big comment on the quality.
  20. Fuck me, people seem to be going OTT here. A good angle? Yes. The pinnacle of Pro-Wres? People won't remember this next year, when he's back on our screens. Lashley will have done it, and turn heel next week to feud with Cena.
  21. Absolutely not! No, I love this match, reminds me that wrestling can be fun. They totally look like they don't give a shit, and just kill each other. This and promos from Dusty and Rock are the only sort of things I'd be motivated to watch these days.

  23. Yay, watched my first match in months today. Sadly, it was the last match I saw as well, Necro/Joe I. Now this is actually the greatest thing ever. From the incredible calls... "He just kicked him right in the fucking head" "And yes, Rob Naylor is here in the audience tonight" (After Necro Gets Dropped On His Head On Concrete) That's Fucking Awesome!!!" Yes, all commentary should be like this. If you've seen the match you know what I mean. And yes, the action is inbcredible as well, people getting dropped on their heads, fucking killing each other with shots, they just don't give a fuck. This is possibly my favourite match ever, I'd give it praise as high as that.
  24. Well, yeah, I got into wrestling in that period when everyone was watching it, but after everyone had moved on to the next 'cool' thing, I was still watching it.
  25. Well, I might concede I watch the odd match but I'm certainly not going to go round telling everyone I watch a load of it, even if they ask. What's the point? You don't lie, you just don't tell anyone. No, just explaining how if I had a kid, I wouldn't really want him to be a massive fan of wrestling.
