  1. Who are these people who write comments on this site? I stumbled on a highlight video of Rock/Hogan... Still, an REM video I watched managed to top all that, if only for angst levels... Are there any normal people on this site?
  2. I just wonder what they were thinking putting Undertaker/Edge last on the card, when it was obvious it was the fourth least important match there.
  3. Problem is, a lot of wrestling fans are society's rejects. There's got to be a reason for that.
  4. Aren't most people embarassed to be wrestling fans anyway?
  5. I'd say they're at least as big as Punk, and he hasn't had a problem it seems.
  6. Well, that's very true, but I still think the WWE would look to pick them up. Whether it'd be any good is another matter though. They still have great charisma though, but I have seen them work a southern tag, albeit with tons of crazy moves, and it's been when I've liked them most. The matches when they don't come off well, are the 20 minute + ones where they go backward and forward with no direction of emotion for the first 15 minutes, before going crazy for the final strait. I still think they could use the 'ma up' gimmick.
  7. The Briscoes are brilliant. Even after May 2006, when I hated most of what ROH was putting out, I still picked up shows just to see them, Sydal and Jimmy Jacobs. They're matches were long and overblown much of the time, but they'd do a 30 second promo and it would be the greatest thing ever. I totally bought them. WWE is sure to pick them up before long.
  8. Well, they've been attempting 'edgy'. What I meant by 'edgy' was trendy and cool and different. Cena is kind of different, but I'm still not sure he's the next big star. Obviously they're pushing him as such, and he's getting huge reactions either way from the current fans, but I'm not sure he's drawing any new fans in. And if he is, I'd wager he's sending the same amount of fans away. The two casual fans I know absolutely hate Cena with a passion.

  10. Yeah, I know. Thing is, I still read the results, and to be honest most of the wrestlers were there when I used to watch it at least part time. I should probably phrase it as from the limited amount I've seen, none of the guys they have around now, and the product they are putting on, is not edgy or original enough. It isn't hard to tell though, since I read the Raw and especially the Smackdown results and it's always a case of 'same old'.
  11. Maybe, I wasn't really around then, I started coming Online to wrestling sites in early 2000. I seem to remember with DVD's becoming really widespread and cheap to get hold of, discussion in 03/04 was at a huge level. I might be wrong though, as like I said, I wasn't coming online until the Monday Night Wars were reaching the end. Discussion of matches, then, likely peaked around that time, or maybe I'm just confusing it with my own peak, as that's when I wrote tons of reviews and was rwally enthusiastic about ROH and the like...then there was the SC poll in 06(?) which generated a ton of activity, and it seemed to have been all downhill from there. See, I hear so many people saying this, and from the outside as I seem to be at the moment, I can't see it. I don't think any of the current characters are edgy enough to grab the attention of the mainstream and make wrestling cool again. Personally, I think it'll take a whole new direction, and there won't be another 'boom' like the last one for the next ten years or more. TNA isn't getting any bigger, which means WWE really has little incentive to, there's worldwide financial worries right now, and it looks like UFC and MMA if anything are going to create the buzz. Back in 98/99/00 everyone you talked to either watched or had heard about wrestling, but at the minute it's pretty embarassing to be seen to watch it. It's going to take something really special and different for that to change, and it won't happen while Vince is still in charge.
  12. I don't think that's strictly true. Most of the comments I've seen on YouTube have been 'this is crap no way as good as attitude era', or if they're watching thw Attitude Era, 'this is awesome wrestling today is crap'. But then, that's if you're looking at YouTube members as your average fan. If your average fan is a guy who watches it and doesn't look for it in the internet (Is there any of those left?) then they'd probably say things more similar to what you suggested. But then again, I've never met these people, so I can't say. By the way...I know somebody already mentioned it somewhere...but is online wrestling discussion at an all time low? It seemed to peak around 2004 with the big buzz for Ring Of Honor at the time and the Benoit/Guerrero pushes, and the long Kobashi reign, but it has dropped off considerably since then. I don't know about just the random sites, but the places like Smarkschoice and DVDVR have either shut down or are really low in activity. Anyone suggest a reason for this?
  13. It isn't just the stars though, it's the matches. Wrestlemania 19 had pretty much the same wrestlers as Wrestlemania 18, but 18 drew the much bigger buyrate, pretty much exclusively because people wanted to see Rock/Hogan. Even Rock/Austin the next year didn't get anywhere near it, since it had been done before, and Hogan/McMahon wasn't interesting enough. So you can have all the stars you want...but the card has to give people something unique and different, and there is nothing on this show that gives us that. The Triple-Threat main event isn't different; they did the same thing in 04, and not only that, the three guys here have wrestled each other time after time. I honestly think a huge blowoff to the Orton/Cena feud would have drawn better. The only 'unique' match here is Edge/Taker, and that isn't going to excite anyone. So it's going to be up to Mayweather to sell the show.

  15. Ah fuck. You knew it was coming, but still. Way to fuck up his best chance ever, just like Van Dam in 06.
  16. It helps that most of their loyal fanbase hero-worships Gabe, and thinks he can do no wrong. So whatever he puts out, they love it. Whatever change of direction, they see it as innovative.
  17. 'Excellent' is stretching it a bit, isn't it? The crowd was excellent, the match itself was terrible.
  18. Basically seem to be watching about one match a month these days, but I've enjoyed the couple I've seen. Tonight I totally randomly decided to chuck in Hogan v Warrior from WM6, and ended up thinking this is probably the best Wrestlemania event ever. - Forgot the incredible heat this match had, Warrior especially seemed crazily over - Totally captures the 'epic feel' more than any match I've seen - Selling is actually fantastic apart from the superhuman bits, the fatigue is put over extremely well - Strangely believable action, everything looked pretty impactful, and they were getting false finishes off back suplexes - Best bits were when they lost in and just started raking each others eyes and exchanging shots on the outside - Commentary was awesome, puts the likes of Michael Cole to shame. The end...
  19. I think so. More consistent ans less sensationalist charcters, with more detailed and less predictable storylines. I kind of see it as less heels and faces, and more characters, like a drama that unfolds. The wrestling itself would be more competition like, but there'd be motivations for every match that went beyond 'you attacked me last week'. Think Eddie/Rey at Summerslam, but more detailed segments, with both guys expressing their point of view, and talking to other characters about the feud. Less heel and face turns, do it gradually, have a guy go bad because his wife has left him and he's losing the plot. He can't cope without her and becomes bitter, and hates people with perfect lifes, and people turn against him. More classy arenas with a different kind of set. That would be my vision anyway, fuck knows whether it's work.
  20. Seems like the Hardyz set could have done with an extra disc for their tag stuff, as well as all the singles matches. Also, I didn't know WWE owned the OMEGA library.
  21. I don't even like Jeff Hardy. But it seems like he's the most over guy right now, and I liked it in 2004 when they surprised people and put the title on Eddie quite suddenly because he'd got so over. HHH has had a million runs, Cena has had the belt for the past three years, it'd be nice to see something a bit different, and if that guy is Jeff Hardy, well so be it. I understand that, but people could be bored of him by then, it's best to strike while the iron's hot. Well that's the complaint, that the plans they had in place are basically crap. Well, exactly, we can all predict that. It's boring. I'd much rather have seen him get a surprise victory at Royal Rumble or No Way Out, or do it at Wrestlemania.
  22. Is it me, or does the Wrestlemania card look one of the worst ever? The triple-threat is so predictable, and nobody really wants to see it. I don't know why they couldn't have just held off and done the big Orton/Cena blowoff here, or even better, had Orton main event against Hardy, maybe in some sort of gimmick match. It would send out a big signal that WWE is concentrating on the future. They've really fucked it up with Hardy anyway. From what I've heard, he's hotter than anyone right now, and they should have done what they did with Eddie in 2004 and stuck the belt on him. As it is, I'm not sure anyone is going to care by the time he finally gets it, the shock value will have gone. Undertaker/Edge just looks really dull, Edge is a better character than wrestler and I'm not sure Taker is going to go well with him. It's clear the streak isn't ending as well, unlike last year when there was a bit of doubt. I've got a feeling the builup to the Mayweather stuff will be better than the actual match itself, Shane is a tired character and they would do well to use someone else in that role. Having MITb every year just destroys the interest in the ladder match. With 8 wrestlers apparently, so it's going to be a complete mess where things that should look brutal get lost in the shuffle, and Jeff gets the predictable win. His talents are much better used elsewhere. But anyway, this looks like a pretty terrible event to me, and not one likely to revive anyone's interest in wrestling. Of the storylines, only the Mayweather stuff looks interesting, and even that will likely blow as a match.
  23. Strange that awful Yokozuna match made it, as well as two matches with Kane; surely one was enough? Not enough from 2001 either, the Angle and Benoit matches should both of been on here, but I don't suppose they want either of them on their DVD's, for varying reasons.
  24. That's pretty hilarious stuff. Telling everyone to up their game while admitting he himself is shit. But according to him, there is no time. He's complaining the shows are going to long, then telling people to push to be given time on the shows. The crowds are getting burned out because every match on the show has to have several near falls and usually has numerous high spots. By the time the main event comea around, people have probably seen all the hard hitting moves already. What they need to is is start booking traditional shorter matches with shorter finishing stretched, and big moves ending things. Jesus. No wonder ROH promos are so shit.
  25. I thought Mero was one of the better workers in 96 WWF. He had some great matches with Austin, one at IYH8 I believe was awesome. The matchlist looks rather strange. The 2/3 Falls must be on there because Trips wins; there's no other reason to include it over their Summerslam match, althought thank fuck the Hell In The Cell didn't make it.
