Keep in mind that school over here is 11-16 then you can leave and do what you want, so it's not as old as it is in America. But, yeah, if you wanted to be in with a lot of people and popular it wasn't a good idea to admit watching wrestling. There were some other 'popular' people who watched wrestling, so I talked about it if I was on my own with them, but they kept it quiet as well.

And there's the fact that you want your kid to be cool. I mean, I want my kid to be out playing for his school football team and stuff, not in watching Kobashi v Hansen or something. You can do both, obviously, I did it for a couple of years, but hardly anyone knew I was a fan of wrestling at school, and at College people only know because they've enjoyed seeing clips of me and my mates in action. I just think there's a lot better things to be interested in. Then again, I'm not into wrestling anymore, so I would say that

^^^ This is actually true, I am more entertained by The Rock v Rikishi than any Misawa match I've seen. Basically because, I first watched Rock v Rikishi when me and everyone else I new was into wrestling, and didn't know anything about the internet or any of that sort of thing. I vividly remember watching it live when I was 11/12 and cheering on Rikishi while the other 3 people were going for the Rock. So I still feel that emotion of supporting Rikishi when I watch that match. Misawa v Kawada, I feel...nothing. I like Flair a lot though, and if I watch 30 minutes of Flair/Dusty Promos and a Flair/Dusty match it's always fucking great. Even now, when I haven't watched a wrestling match for about 2 months, I love to see a good Dusty or Flair promo.

Isn't reading while taking a nightly walk quite difficult? Unless, of course, you stopped at a bench to read, or walked at a less than brisk pace.

Well I've heard the Umaga match bandered around as an amazing match, but to be honest I didn't think it was anything that great. I also find it hard to imagine that in three months he's gone from being average to being the best worker in the world. Totally. Fuck me, mate, is your life so pathetic that you have nothing better to do with your time then to track down wherever I post, pull out a joke that was old 6 months ago? Change the record. Cunt.
-
Well, I've only seen the Rumble match and Armageddon last year, and they weren't much to write home about then.
-
Orton and Hogan didn't go 57 minutes though. 57 minutes with a washed up HBK and an average powerhouse are not something I particularly want to see. Michaels has next to no decent offence and his strikes are terrible, Cena's strikes are almost equally as bad, and is generally useless unless he's using props or has someone to carry the weight. Whereas, I don't mind seeing Orton and Hogan going 10 minutes in a match that got Orton over, had a big match atmosphere and generally played out really well. And, you know, the odd E once in a while doesn't hurt.
-
My first post was to wonder whether the match was as good as people say. Second post was responding to something you said, and stating what I thought of Cena. Third post was my reasoning behind the match getting 50 minutes. Hardly worthless spam.
-
True, but it was more likely due to Orton being out than any great advance plans they had.
-
I didn't hate on it, I said it sounded bad, not that it was. Either way, I won't find out, as I don't have 57 minutes of my life to waste on something that sounds terrible. I really don't buy all this crap about Cena being the best wrestler in the world. Fuck me, the standards must have dropped a long way from even 2 years ago to have him down as a brilliant wrestler.
-
Fuck me, I can't even imagine how shitty this match sounds. 57 minutes is wayyy too long for those two. You knew people would be dropping *****, since it went 57 minutes, but this must be an overreaction?

Jimmy Jacobs is the shit. As is Necro for that matter; anyone got any reccomendations for his best matches Pre 2006?
-
I think part of the reason is the fact that in Early 2006, they brought the guy in as a heel who hates the fans; two months later, he's a face in a huge company feud, for whatever reason. I just don't think he was the right man to be in the feud, as he wasn't exactly a loyalost stalwart of ROH, that would be desperate to defend the promotion. Maybe the fans just didn't buy it. He looks decent in the matches, though Joe, Necro, Hero and Super Dragon are the stars. Then again, anyone can look decent next to BJ Whitmer.
-
Don't know how you liked either of those matches. Boring and pedestrian is how I'd best describe them.

Taker and Benoit have had two very good matches before, on a Raw and UK PPV in 2000, so they can definately work together. I don't see a credibility issue either, Benoit can go heel if need be, and people still buy him against the top guys. Benoit is a shadow of his former self, from what I've seen lately, and his matches are really linear. consisting of Multiple Germans and other signature moves. However, if he was given a top level feud against a good worker, I'm confident he could up his game and do something great. I have to disagree there, I feel with the current talent pool in the company, Benoit has a top run left in him. It's disrespectful to see him being used as enhancement talent, when you have lacklstre workers like Booker-T in the main event. He had a decemt match at NWO03, but there Punjabi Cell match last year was terrible from what I heard. I don't know, the Wrestlemania match was abysmal. Yeah, that match sucked as well. People praised it because... A. It was on a PPV they wanted to like. B. It wasn't the total trainwreck it could have been. Immense credit to Taker for making the match at least not a complete disaster, but it really was awful stuff.
-
Problem is, I don't think he gets the calibre of opponents to get a full run. It's one thing taking a perfectly serviceable Kurt Angle to a good match, but then on the next run of PPV's, he's working Henry, Khali, Big Show in a crap gimmick match and a really green Kennedy. Perhaps if he worked Benoit, Cena, Mysterio and Michaels consecutively, he could get a run going.
-
Oh, sorry, I meant the ROH match. Didn't like it at all.

Right, I'l try and be constructive. I'll start off by saying it was an enjoyable and entertaining read, with excellent coverage of news and information, and I will certainly be reading future installments. Thoughts... - What is the target audience for this? While the history was nice, most 'smark' fans know most of that stuff already, so unless it was aimed at fans with a lesser knowledge of wrestling history, it wasn't greatly insightful, though it served as a nice reminder. - This is purely personal preference, but I think it may have been better to have given mostly your thoughts on the matches, rather than describe what happened; basically, because most people either watch the event, or read the results, therefore already knowing what has happened, before reading your newsletter. - Stylistic issues as well; there wasn't anything wrong with the style, lack I said, it was entertaining, but it seems to be verging between formal/news and informal/humour. Personally, I like it better when one style is used, at least for each seperate section. - Layout - the columns work well if you're printing it off, but it's kind of annoying to have to scroll up the page again once I've read the the bottom of one column. Although this did give it a nice professional newsletter feel. Hopefully this came across as pointers and advice, not criticism, but with my reputation, you never know

Watched KENTA v Danielson today, and fuck the cat, it was uninspiring as hell. The problem with Dragon doing 20 Minute + Title defences 5 times a month, is that he ends up doing the same stuff almost every match. Which is fine, if it's outstanding, but the stuff wasn't terribly exciting when he first did it, let alone when I've seen it 30 times. KENTA is hit and miss, here he just works his paint-by-numbers match, and doesn't seem to be putting a lot into it, his performance here pales in comparison to the great match he had with Sydal. Half the problem is, KENTA looks great, while Dragon doesn't look in the least bit threatening and looks like a complete nerd, which essentially he is, so I don't buy anything he does. There wasn't even anything particular I could point to here, it was just boring. No charisma, a poor crowd, dreadfully overhyped, avoid this.

Can anyone C + P it for me? Don't want to download Adobe for it.

Problem I have is, 90's AJ has had so much hype, that I turn it on every time expecting something incredible, and when your expectations are that high, you're bound to be disappointed. It's almost as if you have to like it, when really a lot of it seems repetetive and boring to me. I'd be interested to know people's favourite current wrestlers. I'm not exactly up on the scene right now, but the only wrestlers I'd really look forward to watching these days, are Matt Sydal, Jimmy Jacobs and Necro Butcher.

Most, to be honest. 03/06/94 and the Ace/Williams/Misawa/Akiyama are examples I explain here... http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?show...c=4687&st=0 Take 06/09/95. A very good match, with a nice focus around Kobashi's knee injury. But fuck, it wasn't a highly emotional moment or anything when Kawada won. Coey wrote that the moment will be 'forever etched in my mind'. Jesus, mate, you need to get out more, it's a wrestling match. Truthfully, when I last watched it at couple of months back, my mind had wandered and I'd become bored by the tome the finish got there. Misawa's performance was poor, he just threw fore-arms around for most of the match. Kawada was awesome, and the match itself is entertaining enough, but it didn't get any emotion or feeling from me. There just isn't enough major character work for me in these matches. I'd rather watch 06/07 Jimmy Jacobs than Misawa, simply because he has a thoughroughly entertaining gimmick. It's fun, it doesn't recquire a whole lot of thought to understand what he's doing. Wrestling should be overstated, not understated. My main issue with Lawler is one that will be frowned upon; the fact his matches are mostly full of punches. Punches are nice enough for a while, but they get boring once you've seen him do them every match. Yes, the crowds are usually hot in his big matches, and they have a lot of blood and emotion, but they rarely keep my attention.
-
Admittedly, this seems to have been the case over the past year. Perhaps I've just gone off wrestling. I prefer discussing it to watching it these days. I'm down to only watching about a match a week, if that. I'm off to Oz for a year in September anyway to do some travelling, so I won't see any wrestling for months. Most likely a good thing. And Bix, as cool as it is to C + P my post, wouldn't it be more constructive to tell me exactly why you enjoy Jerry Lawler?
-
Care to argue that it's not? Seriously, I don't see these deep stories people get from the matches, I just see good matches that a lot of the time really aren't that special. I actually really enjoy reading WP's opinions on wrestling, and agree with him a lot of the time.
