  1. Wasn't Iaukea inducted last year?
  2. Both peaks of Mount Kilimanjarou?
  3. Clemens/Bonds would've gone in. The problem is that you also have candidates who LOOK like clear picks at 35, but fall off the cliff or perhaps have a steroid scandal flare up, or something of that nature. It's worse in pro wrestling where wrestlers are frequently big stars beyond the age of 35. Ric Flair for example would be on the ballot in such a scenario in 1984. That's a huge chunk of his career unaccounted for/
  4. The Harry Kalas episode is a good example, I think. He died something like 90 minutes before the game. The game went on, as did the Phillies' broadcast of the game. One thing that should merit consideration in a case like this. Lawler of course didn't die, he had a health emergency. If he, or any other person in his situation were to die, the WWE would have an ethical responsibility to inform the family before rushing to live television to announce the news. As far as other examples, soccer has Heysel as the extreme example. 39 fans died in a crush/riot incident before a Cup Final, and the match still took place with riot police on the track.
  5. My dad had a heart attack recently. Same story, wasn't a smoker/drinker, ate badly, etc. Also in his early '60s. Hopefully this pushes Jerry to seek regular medical attention. He should have a lot of years left if he takes care of himself.
  6. I had the same thought. Had this happened elsewhere, it is quite likely that Lawler would have passed away. He was very fortunate to have it happen where it did.

    Top 100 List

1-10 of a top 100 list is the easy part. When you get to 90-100 there are dozens of possible guys to rank in those spots. The pool gets deeper the further you get.
  8. Who I would vote for if I had a ballot. HISTORICAL Hans Schmidt MODERN John Cena Curt Hennig Ivan Koloff Pedro Morales Rock 'n' Roll Express Sgt. Slaughter Sting JAPAN None MEXICO Cien Caras Villano III Dr. Wagner Sr. EUROPE Big Daddy WORLD Carlos Colon NON-WRESTLERS Lou Albano Jim Crockett Jr. Jerry Jarrett Gorilla Monsoon I wouldn't cast a ballot in Europe/Japan/World as I don't feel personally qualified enough to make a real determination there. I'm just going based on limited knowledge there.
  9. I wouldn't object to Observer subscribers like her being given spots to write a piece in support of their favorite candidate. Assuming everyone has that opportunity. More hype for the Hall of Fame is a good thing.
  10. Apparently this was standard for McGuire twin matches. They're obviously not good wrestlers but as a novelty act, they're not the worst either. They have a routine and it worked.
  11. Gene Anderson apparently suffered a stroke-like injury in the early '80s. So he may have stuck in the area as a matter of necessity.
  12. The Maguire (or McCreary) twins.
  13. Not even burnt, defaced. Obviously you don't want to be offensive. But I do think wrestling companies have a bit of a problem. A good heel naturally pisses people off.
  14. I'm watching online. Always interesting to see good amateur wrestling.
  15. I'm telling you guys, Redneck Flair has endless possibilities. In hindsight, Flair should've teamed with Dick Murdoch in 1991. Flair finds his inner redneck self while Murdoch slowly evolves into the new Nature Boy.
  16. The CHIKARA tournament had me thinking. If you were to develop your dream six-man tag tournament. You could use any wrestlers you wanted, any era. Mix and match guys in their primes. Could be either famous pairings or guys who never teamed before. Figure on 16 teams total. Who would you put in?
  17. What about the Cow Palace? Also surprised no one has mentioned the ECW Arena, considering its reputation 15 years ago.
  18. I don't see the issue. Davey Richards not wrestling is a lot better than Davey Richards wrestling.
  19. Hard to dispute MSG for me. History of great matches, hot crowds, distinctive look, and from a practical standpoint ridiculously accessible for mass transportation.
  20. Someone has a bunch of WWF MSG full shows up. I'm watching 1984 in order starting with July. Watching the September show now and a couple random thoughts. -Sal Bellomo is the perfect style of JTTS. Clearly a notch below the stars but credible enough to have 10 minute matches, do counter-wrestling, have some offense. I hate seeing guys in this era who lose in two minutes to the first big move the star hits. -The worst recipients of Gorilla Monsoon's commentating are the referees. -Every time I see Chief Jay Strongbow I picture Howard Finkel starting off, "now jobbing..."
  21. I figured this was going to be a thread about Lou Albano.
  22. Yeah, Flair/Valentine didn't make the tape. There's a weird dynamic there. From the Greensboro results they are teaming or fighting sometimes alternatively it seems from month to month.
  23. Both Pedro Morales' title win and loss were the suplex-double pin-one shoulder up variety as well.
  24. Easton PA. That'd be a fun event to check out.
  25. I suspect that Bobby Heenan is one of the all time overlooked workers. There's very little prime footage of him but what I've seen is very good. But that aspect is completely dwarfed by memories of his managing/announcing career.
