It always matters unless it doesn't.

The HHH story if I remember it right was that he protested being drafted to Smackdown, so they moved him back after the show was over to accommodate him. But he was "punished" (as much as HHH was ever "punished") by being booked to put over Shelton Benjamin the next week.

The only problem with the brand split (aside from the ridiculous term "brand extension") was that they didn't keep each group separate enough most of the time. By the end of 2011, we were getting forgettable champ vs champ matches between Punk and Bryan on Raw when ideally, a champ vs champ match should be a Wrestlemania main event.

Also, we better get a spot where Liger picks up the phone and mocks Tyler's pose! I'd be surprised if we don't.

I guess it's too late to do the Sunshine-Precious angle, but in hindsight, that could have been really fun.

Does Liger get the Orient Express theme, continuing the long tradition of music for Japanese wrestlers who tour WWE?

The answer is that I wouldn't value it more.

That's kind of a weird takeaway from me just asking how they were in Stampede. There was nothing more to it, sheesh.

So I just came in to ask how their Stampede matches are.

I love it when Vince criticizes his roster for their fear of failure. Is anyone more terrified of failure when making talent decisions? Then again, he's willing to cannibalize pay-per-view but gets cold feet about pushing new stars. His mind is an interesting one. I think at the end of the day, his biggest fear is that his moral view of what fans want to see in their main eventers is proven wrong.

I love Austin, but he's very critical of the wrestlers for not taking the top spots and seems in denial about wrestlers having far more freedom to take chances in his day than they do now. Jim Ross does the same thing. They blame the wrestlers instead of the people in management (read: person in management) who fosters that environment.

I'm not a fan of the "He's too " stuff with wrestlers who are already over. It happens in WWE and sometimes fans do it too. If someone is over, it doesn't so much matter why they are over because they've already proven they can overcome all the on-paper things that act as a would-be checklist for what a top guy should be. If someone consistently gets big pops, they should be protected and get a real chance to succeed or fail in main events. Either the fans take to it or they don't, but at least that wrestler's potential has been maximized and now we know what their ceiling is. I know Dave always talks about the companies who chase the pop often going out of business, but is WWE really going to go out of business if they give guys like Ziggler an honest chance on top?

My gut says you're right, but here's I guess where I differ from WWE. When someone has that much fan support, they at least deserve an opportunity to sink or swim in a top role. I'm not saying Dolph would be a runaway success as a long-term headliner, but he should have received the opportunity with a real championship run at some point.

My dilemma wasn't so much that I had talked about it a great deal before, but more that I had no idea what to say without parroting existing takes on the match. Every thought I had, be it the little kid at ringside going crazy, the significance of Misawa working over Kawada's leg for the first time, the nature of the finish, Kawada focusing on Misawa's bloody ear ... it was already articulated elsewhere. I can understand how that would be frustrating for someone who wasn't on line through the first, second and third waves of discussion about this match, though. At the very least, maybe we could link to some of the best reviews of this match that are out there.

On the contrary, expect Jericho to again mention that he once beat Austin and Rock in the same night on his next run.

When you create an environment where nothing matters, I guess nothing matters.

You're not making that up, although the 3-Count/Dragons match was nearly a year later, so it was a hindsight comparison. It was also contrasted with how WCW never mentioned Eddy-Rey at Havoc again on their show.

Now that I think about it, it even happens with big wins. Why was Dolph Ziggler not presented as the conquering hero who against 3-on-1 odds secured the pinfall that got rid of The Authority? Why didn't he get the hero's welcome on Raw the next night and even tell Brock Lesnar he was eyeing him? Shouldn't that have made his career (even with them coming back before year's end)? Telling HHH at some point that he got rid of him once and if he wasn't careful, he'd do it again seems like a natural confrontation too, instead of what they did where he had to be fearful of how Stephanie would retaliate.

Agreed. And I think the biggest issue is not really coming out of a main event feud on the losing end, but it being so quickly forgotten afterward. Most things that happened six months ago have little to no impact on what's happening in WWE now. I wish they made more effort to protect guys in their follow-up feud so it being a step down isn't as much of an issue.
-
It's just the way they've always done business. They build heels up for one feud, and when it's over, they cycle them down. Unless they are HHH. Again, that would be fine if you had 25 territories and you could bring guys in and send them away anytime you wanted. Now, it just makes the losing heel going down the card seem like damaged goods.

There was one point during all of this when Jarrett was on both shows at the exact same time.

I liked the Nitro match all right where Hogan worked over Giant's injured hand.

Challenger du jour booking goes all the way back to the days of Vince Sr. It worked at one time because of all the talent cycling in and out constantly. It doesn't fit what wrestling is in 2015.
