I feel like I am missing way too much stuff and that it's time for me to spread out my wrestling watching a little more so I can keep up with current wrestling. WWE is a much more pleasant viewing experience when watching the shows Vince doesn't micromanage, as here, you had inoffensive commentary and a match between two opening match guys given plenty of time. They really laid their shots in, which was what stood out to me more than anything. Titus has a really great mean streak. ***

Yeah, I don't think they understood that they could keep the group together while still pushing them as singles stars. Circumstances would almost definitely present themselves a year or even two years down the line where it would make sense to have them face each other, but it would mean way more at that point. As it stands, Rollins didn't gain much from the Ambrose feud, and Ambrose lost a lot. And Reigns, while being pushed harder, was more over a year ago.
-
For what it's worth, the talk at the time of the breakup was that they were already looking ahead to sometime around the end of this year to reunite the group where it would be a big deal.

Not a lawsuit really, just a plan to really humiliate Turner Broadcasting as a whole.

Are they excited about Daniel Bryan's return? Do they care about Rusev, Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt?

Sting is supposed to be the headliner this year, right?

There was no other option. If he wasn't put on TV, he was going to organize an NAACP picket in front of CNN Center and call attention to the stuff they were doing that flew under the radar of TBS executives. Period. They decided not to call his bluff, which was probably a wise decision, as it's not like he had a lasting role and dramatically changed the course of the company or anything. He probably saw race-baiting angles as "his" in the same way that the Iron Sheik was even telling people as late as 2005 that he was expecting a call from WWE so he could be involved in Mohammad Hassan's stuff.

They were simply looking for something that would draw money immediately and get them consistent 5.0+ ratings. So they were willing to try just about anything to make that happen. Ole was a new booker, so he got a chance to sink or swim. When bookers would present Herd with ideas they could lay groundwork for that would draw big in six months, his response was that they needed to do something that would draw big now, not later.

Dusty quit in 1999 because Vince Russo wanted to do a storyline based on his real life problems with Dustin, and he refused to do it.

The problem with Rollins is that he seems too likable even doing the heel thing, like he's just a really nice guy who is pretending to be mean instead of someone that actually has a mean streak. He also has yet to have a really strong match as a heel. I don't put that all on him, but I think they would have been much better off making him a singles babyface and giving him a Jeff Hardy-style push.

Thunderbolt basically blackmailed WCW into bringing him in. First post has a little explanation, but I am not sure if there is more to it.

I think we should talk more about how the Seth Rollins push is not working at all. Does anyone else agree with that sentiment?

I think people are being a little tough on Dave for something that is both consistent with his other opinions and that no one else has even watched yet.
-
I think he was talking about the show as an overall presentation and not the match quality itself. Or at least that was my understanding. Remember, Dave considers the all-talking episode of Memphis television to build Lawler-Dundee in the Loser Leaves Town match to also be one of the best shows he has ever seen.

As ridiculous as that oversell is, I do feel like WWE television would benefit tremendously from that type of spontaneity, or at least the spirit where it's obvious everyone involved is having fun.

Had Hogan jumped to the WWF in 1998, his track record would be that wherever he goes, wrestling companies go through the roof. I'm glad he stuck around in WCW for a while, since he needed to pay his karmic debt off at least a little.

Re-reading old comments, I just wanted to add that Fuyuki had kind of an underrated second career after he left All Japan. He was definitely past his peak, but he became good in a very different way. Onita-Fuyuki matches are the FMW equivalent of Choshu-Tenryu or Choshu-Hash in terms of charismatic guys doing spectacle wrestling.

Thanks! They showed house show clips until the bitter end I believe. However, there were occasions were they ran other arenas in Memphis because of either ongoing disputes with MSC or because they couldn't pack the place anymore. We'll cover MSC renovations in a future installment.

Part of it is just not thinking ahead, but overall I think it's just indicative of them not seeing Bryan as a star at the same level of their other top guys. Remember, he was cleared three weeks before his return promo, and it's not like we got any "Beautiful Day"-style videos hyping his return during that time, even though they had the time to do that. His name wasn't even dropped in promos to put him back on everyone's mind. So there you go.

WWE taking Jericho out of the ring and putting him in that spot for good would be better use of him at this point if his schedule would allow it. Sadly, it doesn't.
-
I know this is a blanket statement, and I try to be hesitant these days with blanket statements, but I'm not sure I can call a match great anymore that has a spot involving the ringside announce table, no matter how good the rest of the match is. It's just such an overdone, cliche thing which has been a WWE staple now for 20 years and I think it's time for them to move on from it. So that, along with the way The Shield-Wyatts opened, which I agree didn't capitalize on the heat that was there, took it down some for me.
