Exactly Pete. What do you think?
-
Do you think the Rogers/Calhoun match was gimmicked ? We reviewed this match for Titans of Wrestling and we were split 2-2 on it.
-
In the matches I've seen I've really enjoyed the announcing of Russ Davis.

This was a good. match. Thesz's subtle heel work was tremendous. All the little shots off the rope breaks reminded me of a more low key Jim Breaks. The suplex that Lou gave Verne was brutal . I enjoyed Verne using the headlock in the 1st fall though it did drag at times. The 2nd fall loving Lou going for the Sleeper only to be to close to the ropes. Until finally he got it. The 3rd fall was the NWA touring champ finish forever. Other things to take away from were the strikes, and the precision of them. Can't wait to see more of these guys.

We watched this for a Titans podcast and it was interesting . Calhoun threw some very bad punches. Though he made up for it at the finish. We were deadlocked at 2-2 if that was the planned finish or not. Some fun moments like Rogers trying to escape a Calhoun headlock. Ultimately though it's fun to see Rogers work with a unique opponent.

Parv their are just styles that you way prefer to watch than mat work . I also did say let 's see . So I'm willing to let you surprise me a bit.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment even if I don't quite agree with the 50% number. But I've never understood the Piper love, especially on the character side. I want to watch more of him in connection with reviewing Portland, but can't imagine him sniffing a top 300. I think from 78-87 he was a good character. After that their was a lot bad mixed in with some nuggets of good.
-
Comparing him to Misawa isn't fair. Misawa is easily a top 10 to 20 guy , while Piper is a guy who will struggle to make the 100. My argument is that he shouldn't be easily dismissed.

In the 80's Piper had a good houseshow runs with a variety of different opponents having good matches. He was the master of the 8-10 minute brawl that I dubbed the Piper Special. He had good matches with Orndorff, Muraco, Savage, Rude, Hennig, Orton , Adonis, and Savage. In Portland he had high end stuff with Buddy. His tag work with Martel. In Crockett he had high end matches with Valentine and Slater. He also had good matches with Flair, and Brisco. In LA he was tied with the Guerreros. In the 90's he was on fumes, but he still had the Bret Hart match, some with Flair. Combine this with his character work and promos he has a shot at my 100. I thought less of him in 2006 in the SC poll.

Joe vs. the World #76 talking WON HOF with Dylan Hales
shoe replied to Joe Gagne's topic in Publications and Podcasts
This was good stuff guys. In regards to Brock I don't think he's HOF worthy. In regards to his UFC pedigree to me is akin to Angle 's gold medal in helping his candidacy . Neither should have any bearing. Though I don't think that's case. -
We are doing a podcast on a couple of matches on Sunday. I agree on your assessment that Parv is going to hate the headlocks. We 'll see though.

I like Bret, but in his tag days his sternum 1st bump either led to the heat or shine segment 95% of the time.

Bruno Sammartino is an interesting candidate. Most of these are from the 80's nomination process. Bruno Sammartino vs. Ken Patrera 11/8/80 I liked this a bit more than Will and feel it's a solid nomination. Both guys early are trying to establish physical domination. We get a cool overhand wristlock spot that leads to Patera pulling Bruno's hair twice. In a nice payback spot Bruno does the same thing. Patera is focusing on the back with kicks and stomps along with some AWA elbow drops. Patera goes to old knee in the back of Bruno. Bruno's reversal was great and Patera quickly gets the ropes. Patera takes a nice shoulder bump into the ring post. This allows Bruno to focus on the arm. The work on the arm is really rugged. Bruno uses the tools he has and just murders the arm. Patera eventually gets vertical and uses a well placed elbow to escape. Patera teases the swinging full nelson that Bruno escapes way too quickly. They really could have milked this spot for a lot more. Then again Patera's arm is pretty fucked up here. Patera is selling the arm big time. Bruno's focus is the arm. This leads to a Patera chair shot and a DQ. I thought this was a good match. Bruno Sammartino vs. Larry Z. 3/24/80 The crowd is even hotter than the Philly crowd. I mean the crowd is chanting Bruno before his match. This is like the Rock. Another solid match between the 2. This match doesn't have the nasty Bruno arm work that Philly had. Though they make it up with some fun brawling on the outside, and some real nice cat and mouse spots that played into the finish. I thought the Philly match was a tad better on work, but the atmosphere has me liking the NY match better. I've been watching the build for this feud for Titans of Wrestling and have been blown away. "Superstar" Graham vs Bruno Sammartino w/Arnold Skaaland - 6/77 MSG I watched this match earlier in the day. I thought it was a fun match and exceeded my expectations. Superstar was awesome in his prematch. I dug Bruno's brawling start for the 1st few minutes. I thought Superstar's goofy bumping even added a little to the out of control element because he seemed out of control. Even his backdrop looked out of control. The mirror spots I thought were fun though they did lack transitions to them. I thought they had a great dynamic to each other that played well in the match. With these guys going 18 minutes I thought it would drag, but it really didn't. I liked this better than any Bruno match we've reviewed on Titans Of Wrestling so far.

Flair is my #1, but it could change if another wrestler can make their case to me.

In the Video Vault their is a 1/18/86 match between the British Bulldogs vs. Hart Foundation match up. I don't think that match has ever aired before. I'm not 100% sure though. EDIT-it has.

Awesome

I have the same thoughts, and I think Will thinks I don't like Lawler too.
-
The 4 way was good I guess. The body of the match was nothing special. They built to a hot ending. The booking at the finish was great.

I thought Charlotte looked so good tonight minus the moonsault. She really worked a smart match. She just targeted that neck of Bailey's throughout. Bailey was good in her role as plucky underdog baby face. I've never been a fan of Divas matches, but I'm getting behind Charlotte and believe now is the time to push the division behind the fans of Total Divas.

Good Will Wrestling: Wrestling Fans

I just got around to listening. I liked the talk about Meltzer 's influence. Now I just take his opinion as an opinion on a match that I might agree or disagree on. Though back when I 1st started rating matches I always placed Meltzer being right . I always wanted my star rating to be in the same ball park. Now I don't care at all. A lot of the time we are on totally different ends of the spectrum. A lot of this has to with age and experience. Good show guys. -
One thing we could do, and I'm not saying we should do. Maybe we could break down it into different categories like I vote in Joshi, or I vote in the mexico, or I vote in the 80 U.s category. With this it wouldn't force people to watch what they don't want to watch. Getting Harrington would be a must.

Overall for me I'm sticking with the network . I have a Roku and it's been great for me.Sure their are problems. Yet I get enough content for my bucks. Sure I want more 80's content. Yes I want a consistency to the programming. Overall though they've given us a lot of content. Plus we get ppv's . The sheer amount of hrs they have on their is a lot.

Ricky Morton not knowing the proper name for the O'Connor Roll. At least in the case of Colt Cabana. Actually it was Robert Gibson according to Cabana.
