  1. I wonder how many takes it took Austin to get through plugging Cougar life.com. LMAO
  2. One mistake that is made is JR calls the Ghetto Street fight as if it's from NO. In actuallality it's from Houston at the Sam Houston Coliseum. Easy mistake since Houston and New Orleans both got the big matches. Ross does the same thing for the Dibiase /Duggan match , but corrects himself immediately.
  3. Were you going to use the insults in a fresh write up of the Rockers/ Rose and Sommers cage match .
  4. A really strong summary of the show Soup. When you watch that Patterson/Backlund match I bet you're going to love it.
  5. And the great thing is, it's not like previous new commentary where guys are talking like they're watching something from the past. Ross is commentating as if he was there live and doing commentary. Yea this is neat. He is doing it as it is happening now. He says stuff like Magnum TA is one if the best young prospects in the business. Even his sports references are topical for the time frame. He made a Bobby Knight reference. I really wish they would do this more often when they redo commentary.
  6. Just got finished listening to the Lawler one. I gotta say it was kinda depressing to hear him and Corny used a insult book for some of their insults.
  7. I really do enjoy doing this show with everyone. It has that feel of a bunch of buddies heading over to the bar for Happy Hour and talking about 1979 WWF. I want to know how many impersonations Johnny does?
  8. This had some really cool talking points. I really liked the Cruiserweight comparison to the tag division. Something that wasn't mentioned was how Perfect worked Bret in 89. I know you guys hit on the 91 and 93 matches. To me though I think the matches in 89 are solid to good but don't match the later ones for the most part. I will say that the audience believed in Perfect as a main eventer or near that level. I feel that helped Bret get to the top by working draws with Perfect, also post match Perfect would bitch and bump for Bret. This made Bret look strong post match and positioned him for a singles run.I'm glad this didn't break down into a Flair vs. Bret show. I'm a Flair guy, but I like Bret a lot. One of the talking points about peak Bret being better than peak Flair is an talking point that I can't even see how that's possible. The Undertaker/Bret ONS match really is a classic that isn't discussed ever. If we got Taker tapping out I think it would be better than his Wrestlemania classics. I think Sting belonged on the hottest 4 stars in North America list. The people were hot for Sting, and in 97 did Bret,HBK, or Austin draw a ppv rating like Starcade 97 drew? I don't know the numbers, but Sting was a huge part of the buyrate. When Bret left for WCW I too thought the WWF was fucked. Overall a real fun listen.
  9. He's had some good matches with Steamboat, and Backlund. I remember watching him have a pretty good one against Shane Douglas in 89.
  10. LMAO, no never. In real life I've been told that I'm real loud and my voice carries.
  11. I'm not shocked more people voted for Eaton. I'm shocked by the margin.
  12. I went with Sabu. I don't like either guy all that much. Both guys can do nice highspots, both can be overly choreographed. The difference maker for me is their is no way RVD could have the type of match that Sabu had with Funk at Born to be Wired. That thing was sick.
  13. I went with Eaton because I feel he was more successful outside his comfort zone. Again next week I could easily change my mind. The thing I never understood about Morton is how his run in SMW hurts his HOF candidacy . I remember Bruce Mitchell saying that last year Morton was great in SMW. Mitchell's claim they were on top when SMW went out of business is revisionist history . Ricky was gone by then, and just brought back for the last week of business.
  14. Has anyone read the Bobby Blaze book?
  15. I went with Eaton, but this is a total wash for me .These guys are 2 guys that I really respect as workers. It's like which is better a Ny Strip or a Rib-eye, Peanut Butter or Jelly.
  16. If I'm watching something that I find really interesting I'd say 15-20 hrs a week. If it is something that becomes a chore I can dip as low as 6 hrs a week. It usually corresponds when Will or Brick drop a comp I'm all over it . Some things just flow easier . I hardly watch any current product.
  17. I always thought Dylan was a freak when it came to watching footage. I think he only needs a few hours sleep at night. Kris Z is another beast who has been a stud on the DVDvR 80's sets.
  18. Some people seem to like the matches with Steamboat, but I haven't seen them in a while. Are they just all Steamboat? Not that that would be surprising. Their are some good ones , but for a good share of the matches Don was happy to sit in an armbar, or a headlock. Then their are the judo jacket matches where the guys sell being whipped by the gi as if they are getting hit by a leather strap.
  19. I think Bix said he got a ballot in the mail the other day.
  20. Another good one men. I dug the Pillman talking point. If I couldn't get Steamboat in as a surprise opponent I would have pushed Pillman in that role. They could have run similar angles that they did with Steamboat or Ricky Morton. Not only could they have elevated Pillman we could have had some fun t.v with Pillman and Zenk or Pillman and Steiners vs. The Horseman feuds.I would have kept Luger as a heel at all costs. His promos in 89 were right there with Funk and Flair. If you wanted to say he had the best promos and character work in the promotion in 89 I could get behind that. Also the amount of good matches he had in 89 is really strong as well. On to why the Wrestlewar main event isn't held in higher esteem is I think it's the finish along with the sudden change from Sting to Luger. I also thought the closeup of the pre match instructions really was an awesome touch and gave the match a real feel to it. It's funny about Roos. I think they really hit their fad in around 84-86. I had a pair and the only thing you could put in the pockets of the shoes were either a house key or change. I guess this is their last hurrah at getting built back up.
  21. Also in Martel's shoot he was not a fan of working with Booker-T. He said he dangerous and not careful.
  22. This was a good show with a really interesting topic. Loss the Steamboat/Austin marriage really is something I have believed in for years. Will about Regal I thought he was boring when I first saw him, but I totally love him now. I think Meltzer slept on him at 1st, but clearly respects him now. Now Orndorff is someone who could have been a good t.v champ. For starters he carried a lot of heat and that Center Stage crowd hated him with the Paula chants. He was also very intense. Windham was pretty great for the 1st half of 93.
  23. This is what makes discussing wrestling fun. People have different takes on certain things. None of thinks the match sucks. It's that some hold it in higher regard than others. Also in the rematch I found it odd that Valentine would use a front facelock as his base. It seems like one of the hardest positions to work a match from, and thus the work I found lacking interest from me.
  24. Soup your thoughts pretty much mirror mine. I had the draw in the 4.5 range and the rematch in the 2 3/4 3 star range. I'm glad I'm not the only voice of reason on these matches.
  25. I also think they cheated the time. I think the match really goes around 24 minutes .
