Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
cm funk replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I haven't been to Canada in about 10 years or so, so that's post 9/11, and I didn't have any issues at the border going in or crossing back last time I went (Quebec). But I also didn't give any reason for a problem at the border, because I'm not an unhinged ball of anger like Cornette -
Warrior didn't like him and said he was a trouble maker. I know someone's gonna say "but it's the Ultimate Warrior", but I think the Warrior is a lot smarter than what people give him credit for. He got in, got big, stood up to Vince, got out of wrestling and got Vince to praise him in the end. Ah, fuck Ultimate Warrior. Like anyone should care about what a Fucking homophobic dummy has to say. Amen! and IIRC I think when Andre & Bobby were working with Warrior on the road he was reckless with Bobby and injured him, and got a receipt from Andre, which is where the bad blood stemmed from. I've heard multiple stories that Andre didn't like him, and I think it stemmed from that

Didn't Landy post a pic of Yokozuna in a WWF interview before the Yokozuna gimmick? No idea where that came from. The DVD was good but I really don't get the logic in Demo/Colossal match I mean they were kicking ass took Andre down and just when they are about to win the belts by pinning Haku one of them just goes for the belts? Surely they know it would be a DQ. I don't remember the house show matches going that way. IIRC I've seen a pre-Yoko gimmick "Kokina" dark match years ago. Don't quote me on that though

Flair and Chuck both!

Also, he hates flying, and it's quite a haul driving from where he lives up to the Canadian border. To be fair though, I've heard him tell the story about his "treatment" at the border several times, and it really sounds like he was the aggressor/jerk in the situation, and was detained for a bit because he lost his notoriously short temper. I wasn't there obviously, but based on his side of the story he comes off like the jerk, IMO -
First matches to come to mind were Bret-Hennig SummerSlam 91, Bret-Davey SummerSlam 92, and Bret-Piper WMVIII. Also Savage-Flair WMVIII and Savage-Warrior WMVII. Some of the Rockers-Brainbusters matches too maybe. They tend to blend together with me, but I think they had a really great one on a SNME. I wouldn't say any of those matches are definitively best of that period, but think they all belong in the conversation

This sucks. Best manager ever IMO, maybe the best heel colour guy ever (neck and neck with Jesse IMO)......but easily one of the most entertaining, funny, witty, well rounded performers in wrestling history. I'm just shy of 36, grew up watching the WWF in the 80's/90's and Bobby was always one of my favorites. A huge loss. I wish there was more early footage of him out there. He was still a great worker and bumper in the late 70's/80's AWA and early WWF stuff. So good at stooging. That said, considering how long he'd been battling, it's kind of amazing he lasted this long. And like other's have said, it's so bittersweet that he lost his gift of gab. He did give a great WWE HOF acceptance speech, and some shoot interviews, before he lost the use of his voice, so we'll always have that. And of course we'll always have all the great footage that will live on forever thanks to youtube and the network And not for nothing, but the Heenan Family is my favorite manager & stable group ever, followed closely by the Dangerous Alliance and The Horsemen. I just loved Bobby Heenan that damn much, and felt he could elevate any talent to that next level. Flair, Arn, Tully, Ole didn't need JJ Dillon to cut promos for them. He added to the package, but they didn't need him. Guys like The Islanders, Andre, Herc, Barby etc. were badasses, but they needed Heenan to cut promos for them RIP

As soon as the JJ news broke I knew Corny and Mantell would be gone sooner than later. He was the only reason they were there. Corny no sold it on one of his pods, but he's a world class bullshit artist, it was pretty easy to tell he wasn't gonna be around without Jarrett there. It's a rudderless ship with no consumer confidence left, but we've been saying this for 15 years and they just refuse to die. It really is amazing. -
Chalk me up as a big Emma fan, and I don't understand what they're doing with her. The music change is bad. The Emmalina stuff was retarded. Her heel character was good as is. She's a good worker. I don't get it. It has to be some backstage heat or something, because they keep fucking around with her in what seems like an attempt to bury her. Why? It's annoying to me because I like her, and if they're trying to run her out of the company, why not just cut her? The petty burials are so childish, but it's not the first time, and won't be the last, that we see WWE do this crap

I actually think the Reigns-Cena stuff is a tease and a bait and switch. The Transformers movie that Cena is going to be starring in is already in production/filming and he's due to be gone any day now. I could see Joe taking him off TV as early as tonight and we get Roman-Joe at the PPV.

That IS debatable. I'm a huge Khali fan!!! And not ironically. Sure, he's limited in what he can do, but he's still f'n awesome. I marked out so hard when he came back to help Jinder win the Punjabi Prison match. Should have seen it coming, but I didn't, total surprise. Khali is sort of like Andre. He's a GIANT, and it's not hard to work with a dude that size if you're a good pro Reminds me that I haven't watched that PPV match with Cena in forever. He had good matches with Rey too.

Cool. I have a close relative who, along with his wife, visited India several years ago and had nothing but good things to say about it. Not to go into too much detail but he and his wife are sponsored cyclists who made friends with an Indian in their travels, and were invited to visit and stay with him and his family. They loved it and had a great time. This was a while back and I don't remember OTTH where they stayed and where they went, I'll have to ask him next time I see him Unfortunately here in the US we generally hear the bad news from over there.....overcrowded slums, gang rapes & violence etc. etc. The bad drinking water. The sensational bad news. I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel to a number of foreign lands (Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, Italy, France, Chile, Canada if that counts lol) and always enjoy and respect other cultures. I enjoy the culture shock and being a foreigner in a foreign land. I'd love to visit India someday if the occasion arises and there was a reason for it, I've always found it a fascinating country.....but no offense it wouldn't be at the top of the list of places I've never been to.....and it's tough to travel as much as I'd like due to a multitude of reasons (financial/health/family, etc) Enough about me. Have you ever visited North America?

Listening to the latest ep now.......the "Honour Society" could have been an idea for Nowinski as a manager/mouthpiece for a stable. He'd been retired for about a year, but he was still under contract and with the company at this point IIRC. I think WWE honors his contract until it runs out in I think 05 and that's when he leaves and helps found the SLI -
On such short notice, should it happen, would you expect them to draw well? Is India famous for walkup/day of crowds like Mexico is? Forgive me but I don't know much about the habits of Indian sports/entertainment fans other than a cursory understanding of Bollywood and sports. Because in the States/UK and lots of other places events are announced well in advance and the majority of tickets and purchased months/weeks out. Because if the event is going to happen in roughly a month you'd think they'd lock it down by now and start moving tickets and doing publicity for it. Obviously Khali will help, and Jinder/Singhs to a degree, but you'd think they'd also want to send some guys over there in advance for a publicity tour. I don't know if Cena is on this tour, but you could send Big Show and Bayley and a couple others. It really feels out of sorts for WWE to be cutting such a major endeavour like this so close Is the Indian government really that difficult to deal with?

The beach ball shit IS really f'n annoying and disrespectful to the guys in the ring. It's one thing if the show/the matches are the shits, and that wasn't the case here. Balor-Jordan and the main event were both good matches, and it was a pretty good show overall Part of it is that they're doing 4 nights a row in the same building in front of what I have to assume are a lot of the same fans. After NXT, a loooooooooooong SummerSlam, and then a 3+ hour RAW......they're burnt out. Not a good sign for SD! tomorrow
-
Man, Jordan took a rough landing into the buckle after the running missile dropkick
-
God I hate the stupid fans with the beach balls. This is a good match you fucking retards

I haven't really been watching RAW this summer, just checking clips online........how long have they went to the more frequent but shorter commercial breaks? The breaks are like 90 seconds now it feels like. Is this a new thing? Regular thing? Does it mean the last segment goes longer with no or only 1 break?

Awesome! Thanks! -
He's a heel who gets cheered Cena showed up as a "surprise" by Kurt Angle. Roman confronted him and it looked like they might have a match. Then Miz & friends came out. Cena challenged Miz, Dallas, Axel to a 3 on 2 match against him and Roman. Miz declined Then Joe came out because he wants to get his hands on both Reigns and Cena, and said forget The Miztourage, he'll be Miz's partner. Miz liked this. Then Joe attacked Cena, got the Clutch on, and got Superman punched to the outside. It all made sense.
-
Tremendous backstage segment there with Joe, Miz & The Miztourage
-
Jordan and Balor should be a good match I'm wondering if they're going to do something where Jordan keeps losing, and Angle brings back Shelton Benjamin to team with him as the new Team Angle. I think that could work
