This. I've always considered the fallout on WWE after the Benoit debacle karma for dragging Eddie's death and name months after it. I still think the creepiest angle in wrestling ever was marrying Vickie and Edge.

Macho Madness Returns To WWE.....At Least The WWE All-Stars Game

Macho Madness Returns To WWE.....At Least The WWE All-Stars Game

The game looks awesome. And I like the concept, old vs. new. -

The really funny thing is that between him and Vickie Guerrero, it shows how much the WWE Universe hates to have to pay attention. -
According to Bret's book they went even far as doing a magazine cover shoot with the two of them doing a sort of tug of war with the belt. I only seem to remember that Savage was the one that seemed more likely to come back in that 96-97 time period because he wasn't on for a few months WCW TV after Halloween Havoc. The best thing would for them to have brought him back as a heel and start a program with Shawn or Bret.

I wonder if Vince would have gone in a similar direction if the plan for Hogan to put Bret over ever came to fruition, or if it would have been just a rehash of the build-up to WrestleMania VI with Warrior.

[1996-02-12-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Ric Flair, Woman & Elizabeth
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in February 1996
Considering Kevin Sullivan had his own brief deal with Paul E., not to mention his own relationship with Flair, I'm kind of surprised it didn't happen unless there would have been static from the Turner people for Ric to go.- 12 replies

I think it would have been better if he went to ECW and had a feud with Douglas. Not as likely, but a good thing to muse on.- 12 replies

Was it silly of me to be utterly convinced the first HOF inductee to be announced Monday was Randy Savage? The whole lead-up to it had me genuinely convinced that's who would be announced. -
Not just that, it was angle so nice they did it twice (with Martel and Tatanka two years later).

What I want to know is if WWE hires them back eventually or if they're gone for good. I don't care either way, but I am curious to know if the door is now closed to them permanently. -
I don't remember the events surrounding it, but I thought when they "electrocuted" him on Raw, they were going to give him a big push. Don't ask me why.

[1996-06-23-WWF-King of the Ring] Steve Austin vs Jake Roberts

Is it true Jake came up with part of Steve's promo? Or did I hear that wrong.- 11 replies

Active WWE wrestlers who were stars during the boom
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Foley/Orton goes unopposed on my list for best storyline. Randy was at his most weasel-y and Foley was probably in the best shape of his career. And the build-up was gold. -
Active WWE wrestlers who were stars during the boom
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
What you had during that last boom, was that the biggest stars were people who evolved from that role. Austin, Rock, even Goldberg. It developed this natural attraction for younger guys wanting to get in and make their own mark on the business. -

Right or wrong, Nash can't say anything without sounding like a douche. My theory; Kevin Nash is a douche. -

PWT is reporting Cena injured his leg tonight. -
Two things I remember most was Hogan's wig, and Piper coming out. That was the hugest time I ever marked for anything, when the bagpipes started. The match ended on quite a downer, with the NWO triumphant again. Until, out of nowhere that music starts. It took me 5 seconds before I realized who they were for.

This was the year I got back into wrestling after being a bit bored with it for about a year. I was unaware of it throughout 95 so reading up on everything that had happened was quite a shock. Especially in WCW. Monday Nitro, Vader leaving, Luger arriving. Nitro definitely was a breath of fresh air, and exciting to watch in this year particularly for so many reasons. Watching Paul Wight evolve, seeing the NWO form before my eyes, and seeing guys like Benoit, Guerrero, Mysterio, Malenko and Jericho for the first time.
-
I have mixed feelings, mostly because an actual wrestling match between Piper and Dustin would have been great. But the backlot brawl aspect was new, and influenced a lot to come after. I see a bit of it in all the Kane/Edge backstage stuff that they did recently.

[1996-05-27-WCW-Nitro] The Mauler vs Steve Doll
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in May 1996
I love whenever they use that clip on a DVD it begins with Tony's line about The Mauler mauling Steve Doll. God, I remembered marking out so huge after. I must have been 12 so I was a little smart to everything, but the mark mentality was still there. I really believed that there was a war going on even though one would have read in the Apter mags that Hall was headed to WCW with Nash not that far behind.- 12 replies

Chris, Nancy, & Daniel Benoit found dead
flyonthewall2983 replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
This is all enlightening stuff. It is still hard, as a fan, to watch wrestling today and not wonder when the next big one is going to happen and who it will affect. The weirdest thing I remember from that time, is that I watched more wrestling on MSNBC and CNN than I did anywhere else during the whole time the media was all over this. -

For a woman who lost her father and 2 of her uncles to suicide, I'd say she could be doing a lot worse.
