It matters more now because it gets mainstream coverage, as opposed to a time when the possibility of the news breaking on ESPN before WWE programming would have been zero.

Elias would be a good choice.

Favorite build-up promo video to a big match
flyonthewall2983 replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Pro Wrestling
I thought the Miz one was pretty funny. It's the perfect kind of thing for someone with that much hubris to do. I'm surprised there's not more WCW stuff cited here as I feel like they could be just as good with that at times too. -
I really hated his misogynist gimmick in WWF (and it carried over a little in WCW too), and that lead to an admittedly irrational hatred of him no matter what he was doing after. But I don't have a whole lot of objection to him going in (since there are some obviously real misogynists in already), mostly because of how curious I am to see him on WWE programming, with a live mic and expected to speak no less.

Yeah, it was absolutely horrendous, which doesn't give me much faith that WWE would still be able to replicate what made the originals so good. About the only thing I gleaned from that whole episode was that Harlem Heat's favorite tag team were the Bladerunners.

The last one they did was kind of impromptu and awkward, as it was for the Network's Warrior Week, which had Ted Dibiase and Sgt. Slaughter eating some of their insults towards him.

What I think would be cool is if they had guys do audio commentaries over matches, angles, vignettes, etc, etc.

Wrestler's Political Affiliations

Old news, but he isn't running. He said as much on Howard Stern, that he never even considered it. -
The one actually at WrestleMania was better, but I liked the tone of these videos building up to the Iron Man match. The one before Hogan/McMahon at WM 19 was pretty amazing too, particularly the choice of music.

[1996-03-18-WWF-Raw] Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels training videos

The promos leading up to this match were probably some of the very best things they did during this otherwise creatively dismal period. When you have your two top babyfaces in such a huge match, giving it the Bud Greenspan treatment as a build-up isn't a bad idea. They did it again for the Cena/Rock matches off the top of my head as well. -

I enjoy it from time to time. Fortunately there are other topics of interest for me to look through and discuss. -

No, the only time they did it on television before 1993 was in 1986 when Harley Race became "King". They did it a few times in between those years, Savage won in '87 and I think Bret Hart did in '91 too. They were all at untelevised house shows. -

God help me I'm getting into an argument on Reddit about Savage's run as Macho King and people are throwing out that he won the '87 KOTR as if it's somehow in relation to that. -
Why are they editing the matches? I suspect for reasons related to the limitations of the VHS format. They aren't substantial cuts, but still annoying.

What Happened When with Tony Schiavone

What's the best watch-along? I did this with Bruce's show on the '88 Royal Rumble and really enjoyed it. -
Except in the Mid-South Coliseum

Bobby Heenan even goes a little out of character about it.

That's all probably much closer to the truth than a lot of us would want to admit to, I'm sure.

Getting to the original question of picture quality, I like watching old VHS rips of stuff on YouTube. As long as it sounds at least audible I'm fine with it. There's a certain charm to mono tracks for older movies. I noticed this when I first started buying DVD's that I found the 5.1 surround tracks too clean.

I read that Rousey's involvement is being used as a tool to help Stephanie become more of a "mainstream star". Why doesn't she just manage Rousey then?
