Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
flyonthewall2983 replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Not to nitpick, but I made sure not to mention the trial. The Bronco chase, arrest and it's fallout were all over the news during the WWF trial. Looks like the topic for the next show will be about Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko and Saturn leaving WCW and coming to WWF. -

I think he also overestimated the potential national interest in the trial if it weren't for OJ which was instant international top news. It didn't even make much of a dent in sports media, as I don't think Sports Illustrated's coverage ever went beyond the initial July '91 article. I really hope it's true that the picture in Bruce's gov't file was the Brother Love trading card. -
[1993-05-23-WCW-Slamboree] Vader vs Davey Boy Smith
flyonthewall2983 replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Capetta introduces him as "The British Bulldog" and it's even emblazoned on his tights. It's my understanding that WWF prevented him from using the name in any other promotions once he was fired. How did WCW get around it? It cut to a shirt in the crowd of this match that simply said "Davey Boy Smith", which I'm guessing is indicative that they couldn't use the moniker on any merchandise. -

I think he expressed interest on Twitter at one point to make them available but nothing doing since then. I'd like to hear them too, as they were apparently very shoot-y at times. -
In how Undertaker himself was eliminated (double-teamed by The Legion of Doom), they kind of achieved that. But yeah having him face off with Andre would have been a moment for sure.

When news of the Benoit movie broke yesterday, I thought about what might happen if WWE tries to block it from happening. Then I thought it would be a little funny if they countered it with just going ahead and doing a documentary about the whole thing, like their version of The Jinx or Making A Murderer.

I've heard it's based on the book Ring of Hell

"Based on" could mean something different from a straight bio-pic.

The greatest cons in wrestling history
flyonthewall2983 replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Which directly leads me into why I believe this. Barry Blaustein shot the Terry Funk stuff and ECW stuff in 1997, and during this time he was hounding WWE into letting him shoot, maybe talking to WCW too. Vince knows about the Canadian crew following Bret around, pays it no mind until Montreal or sometime after. He remember suddenly that Blaustein was sniffing around, and lets him in. Once the film comes out, he kayfabes resentment towards how the film portrayed him. If the media makes a big deal of it, which they did that won't be repeated for Wrestling With Shadows which wound up getting no press, no theatrical release and quietly premieres on A&E which was really best known for the Biography show. -
The greatest cons in wrestling history

This maybe veers into conspiracy theory territory but bear with me here. Vince McMahon conning the movie-going public and his own audience into believing the tagline of Beyond The Mat, "the movie Vince McMahon does not want you to see" -
I maintain Gary Oldman would be great as Vince but someone suggested Michael Shannon which would be good too. Maybe Shannon for young Vince (late 70's-80's) and Oldman for the Attitude Era.

His Pat impression makes him sound more Italian than Quebecois. -
Not too long before I believe, right? I think it was in '82.

A couple I can think of is any possible handheld footage of Hogan/Big Boss Man vs. Andre/Haku just before WrestleMania VI, and Ultimate Warrior/Kerry Von Erich vs. Mr. Perfect/Rick Rude leading up to that year's SummerSlam which I think might have occurred at a TV taping. In 1992 there was a match with Hogan and Savage against Jake Roberts and the Berzerker that happened too, that I think was at a TV taping as well.

I liked Bruce's dig on Chief Jay Strongbow when Conrad brings up something Strongbow said about the Warrior being a Native American character. -
What was on the rest of the card?

More NWA World Championship Wrestling being uploaded as well.

It's the full thing - 29 minutes of footage, including intros and the followup cage match. Is it up already?

That's the thing I miss most about the old-school format for the Survivor Series, how all these personalities and angles would intersect leading up to the show. -
On his podcast Bruce Prichard talked about the connection between Coliseum Video and porn, saying that the character of the Colonel in Boogie Nights was based on the head guy at A&H.
