[2000-10-31-Oak Hill, VA] Chris Hamrick vs Kid Kash
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in October 2000
Hamrick doing the classic "heel threatens to leave if the crowd doesn't stay quiet" gimmick is good. Him being a heel in stars and bars in West Virginia is weird. Decent match with Hamrick getting more than he usually does. The Finish is really weak but vintage southern wrestling. -
I found it interesting that Cody was a babyface but the Bucks were heels. It was funny seeing the Bucks win and the crowd not give a shit because they had no idea who they were. It reminded me of when the TNA guys used to come in. Bucks winning is good for AEW business but man did Escorpion and Texano look weak losing so fast. The OGT match was my favorite cause they were killing each other with nutty bumps. Poor Super Fly.

[2000-10-27-EWF-Caged Terror 3] Backseat Boyz vs Bad Crew (Ladder)
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in October 2000
Some guys shouldn't be in Ladder matches. Like Big show, Kane and you can add Bad Crew to that list. This was all Backseat taking nutty bumps. Especially Trent in the first minute of the match taking a clothesline over the top onto a ladder. Not an awful match but not terribly exciting. Agree with Chad that the finish was creative. The commentary was bad and homophobic as usual. -
Went to the ROH tapings tonight in Lakeland. It was my first ROH show live since February 2009 and my first time watching ROH since the POP days. I thought the show was really bad. They have some decent talent like Bandido, Juice, Cobb, Mack, RUSH and even the Kingdom guys. It just felt so lifeless with a dead crowd and nothing to make a first time viewer want to watch again. Lethal is a good mid-card talent but no way should he be a world champion in 2019. HIs tag team with Gresham is embarrassing. They have no chemistry. Most over guy of the night was Marty. They should put the world title on him at MSG. Hell just build the company around him, Bandido, Juice and get rid of the old guard like Lethal and the Briscoes.

What a crappy gimmick and finish to end the KOTDM. Both guys try but are pretty tired and so is the crowd. The big ass casket in the middle of the ring means that the guys have to take bumps on the barbwire ropes. The finish would have been better if Corp took the bump into the casket while it was on fire but that's too dangerous. The way they did it just makes it look weak.

Carlitos was the promoter for that promotion so that's why he was in the match. Also wrestled Caristico and Roderick Strong in the past. I watched Tenyru/Kitahara vs Kimura/Koshinaka. What a match that was. I've seen some of the WAR vs NJPW feud but this was nuts. You had seconds fighting each other, blood, a rabid crowd and just pure hate from the wrestlers. Loved heel Koshinaka ass based offense and Kimura destroying Kitahara. Then you had big boss Tenyru chopping and punching fools. Loved the moment where Tenyru is bleeding in the corner just diving Kimura a death stare. The post match was great with Masa Saito coming in to challenge Tenyru. Fun stuff and I need to see more of this feud. My match for SirEdger:

So with Joey and MJF being with AEW, does this mean they left MLW or MLW is working with AEW? Anyways, those two and PAC and the OWE guys are good pick ups. I'm interested in who else they sign. Hopefully not too many ex WWE guys as I hope this doesn't turn into another TNA. However after the smackdown thing, I fear it will be.

[2000-10-21-NWA Wildside-Fright Night] Shank vs Terry Knight (Chain)
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in October 2000
Add that Shank promo to the long list of things that would never fly today. That was almost Jeff G Bailey esque. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised fi he wrote it. I thought the match was ok but a little too long for a Shank match. I've heard a lot of the Shank legend but haven't seen much of him. He really shouldn't talk. I thought this was one of the better Terry Knight matches. He takes a beating. At the end of the day, the awful finish and the "keep untangling the chain" that occurs in most chain matches hurt this. -
First for cad: Jay Lethal vs Sensational Carlitos from CWA Puerto Rico in December 2016: I watched the Panterita vs Megatron mask match. The god awful video quality actually adds to the match. First two falls were very ref heavy which is always the case in Monterrey. Final was alright but kinda slow. Finish came out of nowhere and I liked when it ended everyone rushed to ringside. Not great but a decent mask match.

Match was pretty blah except for the Briscoes getting beaten up. I can't believe they were only 15 around this time. None of the other guys looked to impressive except for maybe Osbourne and he didn't do much. This was all about the post match. Who knew Kevin Kelly was such a heat magnet? Loved him and the Hass brothers going in the crowd and yelling at Hat guy. Was that Papa Briscoe that went into the ring?

Well this was an interesting match. I wasn't expecting it to go as long as it did. It might have gone on too long. I'm usually not a big fan of funny heels but the henchmen do a good job at it. Most of the match is Tyler getting destroyed. He looks to be about 16 here and it's hard to take him seriously. Still, he's bigger than Brookes was. Tyler makes a hot tag to Brookes and at least the young lads get some offense. I enjoyed the match for what it was.

For NotJayTabb: Looking over your posts, I see you're an NXT guy. Matt Riddle is pretty new there so here's one of his earlier matches and one I enjoyed:

[2000-10-21-ECWA] Christopher Daniels vs Steve Bradley
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in October 2000
Daniels in that gimmick as a respect babyface is weird. I liked Bradley's heel gimmick in Power pro but for some reason, it doesn't work here. Don't know why as he was technically fine but compared to the other big-time indie guys at the time like Ki, Andrews and Daniels it didn't work. Finish was a weak way to get out of either guy doing a job. -
I'll join in if you need another person.

[2000-10-20-JCW-Battle at Becton] Low Ki vs Reckless Youth
Tim Evans replied to soup23's topic in October 2000
Mr. Memphis Reckless Youth is a fun gimmick. Sad he didn't run with it once the bell rang. Fun match with Ki going all out including the phoenix splash which both the camera and Youth totally miss. You can see some of the stuff in this match that even is a big part of indie wrestling today like the apron spots. -
Tommy and Doug teaming in Jersey in 2000 is just weird. I know Doug worked in the northeast for years but I had no idea Tommy was still doing indies in 2000. It's cool to see them vs the young up and comers like the Hass bros. Sadly, this match isn't very good. Tommy was in most of the way and the match doesn't really get going before the run in. Moondogs 2000 are even more low rent than Moondog Splat and the Big Black Dog.

This is about as close to a squash as you can do in a deathmatch. Ian just destroys Wolf with chops, tube shots and the bat to the back. Ian doing a dragon suplex to Wolf into the board was just sick. The finish left a bad taste in my mouth. I get why they did it but doing it in the first round is weak.

I thought this was perfectly fine indie wrestling for the time. Ballards played good heels although Melissa didn't do much. She did more than the guy that was with the playaz who was just useless. Not sure about Thompson as a FIP but I thought Boyce looked the best of all. I'd say this was more southern that what was happening in Memphis around this time.

I don't know if you guys know this but there is a big show happening in a couple days. Cornette didn't mention it or anything. I kinda liked the story in this of Black and Conway having problems without Bolin around. Finish was good too. Dinsmore blowing out his knee after the fall to the ground before his match with Conway is a good story too. Match wasn't much but it advanced 2 stories and didn't include a heel ref bump so not all bad.
