  1. Ok I'm way behind on tivo but haven't they been using jobbers pretty consistently. Masters was fed jobbers. Rodney Mack was fed jobbers. Angle was fed jobers. The Major Brothers, Deuce and domino, Shnitsky, Khali, Mark Henry, Viscera, etc all fed jobbers.
  2. I think the whole thing is up on youtube at this point. Cnn has the full transcript from the Vince and Linda Mcmahon interview up at their web site. Worth watching if only to remind yourself what a nutball Dynamite Kid is, as he seems to think holding his wife at gun point is no different than any other wrestling rib.
  3. Do you want to know about bear wrestling but are afraid to google anything in fear of finding Mike Shaw slash fic? Really all the links you want here: http://worldofjasoncraft.com/forum/index.p...pic=109.msg1087 someone should get Meltz to put Tuffy Truesdale on the next HOF ballott, He seems as good of a candidate as Moolah
  4. What other Bob Roop do I need to see? So one of the big discoveries from watching all this Mid South has been Bob roop. I have seen him before in multiperson matches in JCP but really hadn’t seen a lot of his stuff before watching the Mid South DVDs and now want to get it all. So I’ve now seen his Mid-south stuff, Georgia match against Lawler, and NJ match against Inoki (with Boris Malenko ringside). What else do I need to see?
  5. The world of jockeys (which is ridiculously dangerous job surrounded that requires drug abuse and anorexia for little pay) is a similar family business where each generation destroys themselves. Boxing has multiple generation families. There is little doubt in my mind that Bill Walton’s son will probably completely destroy his knees before he hits his mid thirties and then will have a son who will do the same. I would assume the “circus arts” are still filled with families. Jobs where the barriers to entry are high tend to have second third generation folks in them. Barriers to job entry in the world of porn ( multiple orifices and willingness to have them plugged) aren’t very high.
  6. Awesome CBC radio play by play of Terrible Ted match from 1959. http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-41-1237-6839/...wrestling/clip5
  7. A blog mentioning it http://www.nashvillescene.com/blog/pitw/ar.../00001207.shtml Article: http://www.free-times.com/index.php?cat=12...9&Year=2006
  8. Not Sweet Georgia Brown but article on pioneers of "colored girl" matches: http://www.columbusdispatch.com/live/conte...0302-B1-01.html I assume that they weren't being booked through Moolah.
  9. I don't know much about porn but I assume people get roped into it with the lure of easy money. Thats I think the basic social assumption with porn. The societal assumption is that porn is sleazier because folks get into buisness of degrading themselves based on financial need. Does anyone really get suckered into porn based on the emotional appeal of the artistry of scat? Is there a girl taking it in the ass today who chose the career based on her aprreciation of Vanessa Del Rio's enthusiastic performances leading her to want to be part of that world. If Jimmy Swaggart found a way to make money televising Holiness devotees handling snakes and drinking strychnine....I think you'd have a closer approximation of wrestlings level of scum. Does porn provide better compensation. Yes. Not sure if it makes it any better.
  10. Youtube Baron v Bruno: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go5m5M0ADTo I'm trying to think of a Superstar Graham match I enjoyed as much.
  11. I liked both the Samartino v Zbysco matches that were on the DVDVR 80s set. Both worked really "king of the hill game" psyche. All about who controls the center of the ring. Which almost felt like amateur wrestling psyche (guys trying to control center). Bruno doesn't really have good punches for a guy doing a brawler gimmick but he does have really great stiff kicks and stomps. At some point in both matches (and in some other Bruno matches that I've seen) Bruno starts selling the arm and you have the heel beats on face Brunos arm---Brunos arm hurts thus he can no longer punch---thus Bruno goes all leg strike. Which is an amusing little story. "Control the center" and "arm hurts thus going to leg attack" is close to "meaning leading to something". This is same problem I had with alot of the IWE Japan I watched where matches just kind of end by ending. Bruno v Zbysco matches both had similar finish style but were more rewarding than most of those IWE finishes. And personally perfered the ending by just ending than the near fall stuff in the Patterson v Patera matches from same shows. There is also a ten minute Bruno v Von Rashke match on youtube (which has some clipping) that I really dug. I keep telling Phil to watch that as neat to see "Hey Von Raschke at one point was fun and absolutely smokes Baron Scicluna". Which I didn't really know till I saw that.
  12. does anyone say that about Ken Kennedy? I can't imagine why it would be said about Santino.
  13. So in latest Observer story about steroid dealers, he mentions that the new name released (as purchaser) was Joe Malenko. Miller claims to have supplied wrestlers between 2001-2003. WTF? I thought Joe was retired at that point. I thought he was a succesful pharmacist. Why does a pharmacist need a drug dealer? I remember the video packages when New Japan sent Nakanishi down to hang out with Joe Malenko and Gotch. But when exactly was that? Japanese wrestlers going on tour elsewhere and then returning larger is pretty standard. But it's Nakanishi, I don't emeber him being any more ridiculously roided post Florida excursion than he was before it.
  14. They really need to advertise that passage on air, the way they advertised the Flair burrying Foley stuff on air to hype Flair's book. As really that kind of women hating douchebaggness would appeal to a big segment of the WWE's target audience and help respark his babyface run.
  15. Its more likely that if Konan gets in, the people who voted for him wont vote for another Mexican.
  16. Not to be a jackass but I don't really see the problem here. American Dragon who has always worked his matches toward KO/submission(outside of that period where he was bridging the cattle mutilation into a pin) starts stomping on Hero's head , ref calls for stoppage, Hero is carried to back selling loopiness. Later on same show Roderick Strong is brainbustered through a table for a finish. Again looser of match sells can't walk to back under own power and has to be carried to back. He doesn't visually sell loopiness as well as Hero does because Strong doesn't sell as well as Hero does. Main event is a Necro v Brisco fight without honor with multiple chairshots a Deathvalley driver off apron through table, etc. Which one of these hings mocks the danger of concussions? Somehow or other here promotion having guys sell that getting banged in the head is a finisher and should be sold as dangerous is in bad taste and mockery, while no one complains about working a match where guys fight through and toughen out multiple head trauma.
  17. Damnit there goes my fantasy of WWE being forced to finance a DC Drake run "rasslin rehab" program. It could've made for greatest "reality" programming ever.
  18. The October 1, Observer has Carl Demarco and Shane in Argentina (where the local papers listed them as president and vice president of WWE) attending a taping of 100% Lucha show, which is your lArgentinian wrestling show (descendent of Titanes Del Ring). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKlBmSbazB8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLMbibGvHok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzJZEsb-kWM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmfVBIJW1_k Unfortunately I can't figure out how to download the theme song of American Deserter Lt. Steve Murphy: "Lieutenant Steve Murphy! You fire from when you're sorry! Because a correction in you location Of the honour that you cannot conquered If you want to get back again in this country You will have to win the wresting challenge about If not, please don't return back again You will be fired forever" Hey matchups are chosen by a computer and yo-yos with candy:
  19. Well Ashley would fit in good there. It will be interesting how this plays out. But does WWE really think they can get Mistico from CMLL? I guess they could because Mistico is so injury ridden right now it's not even funny. If you were completelyt desentized to trannies with fake breasts, Ashley would be unremarkable. And why would they want or need Mistico for Brazil?
  20. Fuck!!! Is it too late to get in on thi DVD thing?
  21. It’s unclear from that statement if "expanding operations"=the earlier international brand expansion or if it just means merchandising expansion. But if it does mean international brands: Sao Paolo? Brazil? Does WWE tour Brazil? Did Titanes Del Ring tour Brazil? Is there a market for the WWE’s live show? I mean they keep their talent under lock in key in Puerto Rico out of concern for safety. One got the sense that they didn’t want to do Mexican brand because of both the poverty and the gang/corruption concerns. As though Brazil isn’t marked by poverty and kidnappings. I haven’t read an anthropology or cultural studies journal in almost a decade but my sense is that while Mexico has a wealthy oil class who sees American products as a sign of prestige, Brazil wealthy turn to Europe for cultural imports not to America. Is there local talent to use? I guess the problem with capoeira always has been the lack of storylines and characters? Capoeira Rhoda with a guy with a plumber gimmick vs a guy working as a flamboyant gay? I guess with the end of Pride, Giant Silva and Zuluzinho have nothing else to do. Most of your big name Brazilian MMA stars apparently can’t compete without roids. Is Shane enough of an idiot to try to work a Machado v Rua feud? In a country famous for their trannies with ridiculous boob jobs, is there any novelty in WWE Divas?
  22. Riding the subway today and picked up the latest Politico which had this front page article. Not alot new to see but still: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0907/5909.html
  23. Was Calhoun still in Tri-States in the 70s? I'm pretty sure he held a title there ( not sure how long but title holder suggest that Mcgurik felt more sporadic atraction ) but thought that was 60s. Thought he was more or less an MSG exclusive guy by the 70s.
  24. OK. I'm trying to put together the right timeline here. When would have Ross worked in a promotion that was using Haystacks Calhoun?
  25. More follow up from Muchnick: http://muchnick.net/babylon/2007/09/19/orton-further-notes/
