  1. Ok the first post really read like an Eric Stevens angle kind of "get Well Matilda" cards that would lead to Matilda coming back rabidly Cujo style and biting Billington right where he shoots up. Than GregH gets involved and fuck if I know what's going on. But the idea of Gregh putting together a fundraiser for Matilda's veternary clinc cracks me up.
  2. The hyper editing has always been a WWE/WWF problem. Well since at least as far back as when Regal first showed up as man's man. WWE/F style always about bump taken from move being more important than move execution or impact. So first time I noticed that you rarely get to see spots when move (in theory should) connect was when Regal showed up. See guy put out arm for lariat quick cut to opponent bumping from lariat...with no shot of lariat connecting. See guy get lifted for suplex, quick cut to aftershock of being suplexed...with no shot of suplex. They have been better about this in last couple years but I wouldn't be surprised if the move to HD has made them trigger happy again.
  3. I'm unclear here. You mention the move to New Japan juniors ish style and don't know what you're looking for. Are you looking for who works that style best or who still figures out how to work lucha within this context?
  4. Oh Jeeze and avoid looking at linked article with pics of Linda and Brooke Hogan in matching mother daughter bikinis.
  5. Sounds like a possibility but... Can someone listen to the podcast and verify these pull quotes?
  6. OK I'm not going to listen to actual interview but the entire page of pull quotes (not just the Rock one) all read like one douchebag statement after another. For a guy who normally handles himself well in the media: just it all comes off douchey.
  7. It's 2008. I don't know if its possible to do a woman abusing angle/rape angle in the U.S. that doesn't get a face pop.
  8. The last Observer had the cost of producing weekly Smackdown as $630,000 (with the WB paying them $700,000 for weekly Smackdown). That in 20 years their costs for TV production have only grown from 250,000-630,000 is pretty impressive. Things I love about the Brother Ernest Angel gimmick: -The same weeks that Memphis is running promos where heel Brother Ernest Angel is doing heel conman televangelist spots begging people to send in checks to help his mission...Jerry Lawler is doing awesome wrestling conman spots where he is telling people to call in a 99 cent 1-800 number to vote on who gets to be the special ref in the match between him and Curt Hennig (dial 1 for Larry Hennig, dial 2 for Jackie Fargo---"They're getting lots and lots of votes from Minnesota, and I need you're help"). -When they pull Brother Ernest Angel angle, Brickhouse Brown comes out to announce that Angel is sick. This results in the studio audience starting a "He's got AIDS" chant in regards to the missing televangelist. Brickhouse Brown is a guy who is often bad on the mic. He stumbles over promos, messes up cliches, etc. But here he is just awesome as heel offended by the audience's accusations (which results in milking louder "AIDS" chants). Someone needs to upload to youtube the whole Brickhouse Brown irate that the studio audience "has their minds in the guitter" segment.
  9. The gogoplata is stupid. It's a move that makes him look physically old as he executes it really awkwardly and just looks like an old man struggling to move his arthritic knees. The fake Liddell "Best pure striker in the sport" gimmick is amusing but Undertaker was able to make it work. Watching the poorly executed gogoplata on the other hand just made Undertaker look like the kind of giant fight mark who was regularly flying himself to England to watch Ricky Hatton practice. Watching it go over like a fart in church http://youtube.com/watch?v=7AaMbIE-gJU&feature=related kind of is what inspired me to write Craig Pittman v Hacksaw Duggan up at segunda caida: http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2008/02/b...nth-day-12.html That said Storms reasons for complaining about it are pretty wrong. Why pin a man with a bridging suplex when it means your shoulders are likely to be down on the mat too? The arguments about laying on the back are silly at this point. The Hughes/Newton (slam/submission) finish is a really great addition to the repertoir of bs wrestling finishes. I'll take it over "wrong shoulders down on suplex" any day.
  10. Not really sure what was rushed about Eddie's win of the title. They were hinting at it since 2003 US title run. and problem finding contenders for Eddie in 2004 wasn't about the speed of him winning. WWF is really as shitty as ROH at finding new contenders once last series is over. How many times did they run battle royales in 2004 to determine number one challenger for title? Device for creating number one challenger basically was brand switch or battle royale for number one challenger spot.
  11. I should point out that Steve Corino is really really good at non-swearing. As more than once been to a show wheere he has started working a profanity laced promo gotten a response from audience member of "hey there are kids here" and then shifted to not cursing while never breaking character ( a character of hateable heel who doesn't care what the fans think). It's impressed me both times I've seen it happen.
  12. WHAT??? Ok Freezer Thompson is always really impresive jobber as he's big fat guy who will bump big and always wondered why never saw him jobbing anywhere else. As really always need for big guy jobbers in a Rusty Brooks mold. I don't remember him ever getting a push.
  13. Hey Kris you have any more background on the 80s Georgia indepedent wrestling war? Seen the Nightmares v nightmares match on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI_uQBVvgKA What else of this is available to see?
  14. Someone want to explain the Kirshcner v Race match from the Boston show. Kirschen when not wearing a leathermask stinks and can't even execute the top rope crossbody into pin Race spot. but... Why was Kirchner getting that much in? Wasn't Race on his way to face Hogan? Why is Kirchenr getting to look that strong throughout the match? The post match? Were they setting up a boot camp match between the two? What the fuck?
  15. Purpose of ROH board is to create a "virtual community" of fans not one of critics.
  16. Hamada was too short?
  17. I assumed the blame Vince and not Stephanie stuff was more about sucking up to Stephany (knowing where the future money is) than about embarassment that he was outmaneveured by her. Vince never sucked up to Bischoff while running down Ted Turner.
  18. tomk

    WWE

The Thrilla in Manilla was broadcast over HBO's satelite in 75. Hearns v Lloyd was on PPV in 1981. While people argued at time about wether PPV was good for the sport (fuck people argue today about if PPV is good for the sport), everyone knew PPV was the future of the sport.
  19. So I said that Dave's whinning and explaining were more laughable this year than last. But then I looked at last years. Dave Dave using Ole talking points was pretty damn funny "Cena can't draw in the same place week after week". Still this years was exponentially funnier.
  20. His response paragraphs were really embarrasing this year. I mean last year I don't remember them being as laugh out loud funny. Not just emo in the sense that he came off genuinely emotionally hurt that "the wrong guy won" but in the contradictions form one response to the next (this time comparing apples to oranges means we shouldn't compare them, this time it means we've compared them incorrectly), the abolutely nut ball arguments about why voters were wrong about most overrated or underrated, how he thought international expansion was reason that Vince was candidate for best promoter, that Tenay and Styles low votes as best announcer were due to bad product, the whole TNA vs. ECW thing, etc etc. And EMLL having a better year in 2007 then 20006? Each response brought more laughs than the last.
  21. Ok so I've read about global with Malenko brothers v Barretta/Brooks series but figured it was something that no one had. But makes me think someone has this. And I want to see the Red Roberts/Roop Siskel and Ebert commentary. And well Raul Mata is the Carlos Mata brother who had some pretty bad ass tag partners over the course of his career: http://www.luchawiki.org/index.php?title=N...am_Championship So yeah I want tape.
  22. It's who is most overrated or underrated by the promotion.. Whose value the promotion "misunderstands". There should be a better word for it but not something hijacked by readers. Meltz' definition.
  23. Ok what exactly is the problem with Michael Cole?
  24. How exactly was this a bust? Did Nightmare v Brad Armstrong for the North American Title have any less heat than Dibiase v Brad Armstrong for North American Title? Than Buck Zumhoffe v Brad Armstrong for NA Title?
  25. Well also that that match kind of stank. Wresling full time for a major company starting this year. With ROH being a "major company"for purpose of this award. So Eric Stevens run as TNA jobber getting pounced every week for a couple months doesn't count. I mean even La Sombra has been wrestling for several years. La Sombra who should have won the award and probably would have if Meltzer had pointed him out as candidate (instead he wrote something along the line of "their are no major candidates this year" ) is your 17 year old rookie sensation who is being pushed on top in EMLL. I'm pretty sure he started wrestling in 2002 under other gimmick in smaller market Mexican shows, but started working Arena Mexico/Colliseo etc in 2007.
