  1. On the show itself it was sold as "we know this makes no sense but there's like a 99% chance Kobashi's legit never coming back so fuck it we're gonna run the coolest match we can think of because we'll never get this chance again" which yes, is stupid on paper and I thought pretty much the same thing you did going in and had a similar idea that instead they should have maybe done Joe/Lethal/X vs Kobashi/Cide/Ki or something but when it came time for the actual match they did a great job of pulling off the story and making the whole reluctant partner deal work.
  2. True but i'm still not digging the idea, dunno, anniversary of your dad's death in a national tragedy just kinda seems like the wrong reason to give someone a title (I know Meltzer only said she should be challenging bur really if you did that angle you couldn't not have her win)
  3. Meh, TNA does a lot of stupid shit and misses the boat on a ton of things but I don't think hot shotting a face turn for a girl who's spent all year as part of a Mexican anti America stable and putting the title on her so they could get a 1 night feel good moment pop by exploiting people's emotions over 9/11 and her real life tragedy is one of them. TNA ignores their own past storylines enough as is w/o our encouragement. I'm fine with them letting this one slide.
  4. So, am I alone in thinking Samoa Joe/Low Ki vs Kenta Kobashi/Homicide was way better then Joe vs Kobashi the night before? Well, maybe not way better but I def enjoyed the tag more. Not to belittle the singles since it is quite awesome and largely deserving of the praise it's gotten but Joe/Kobashi was good largely thanks to the second half being full of high spots, stiffness and head dropyness + the big dream match atmosphere, I actually thought the first part of it draged a bit and that it took a while to get going. The tag has everything that was great about the singles, the hot ending, the big match aura PLUS it has a better build from start to finish, a less annoying but still hot crowd and lots of cool little touches and moments inbetween all the big moves. 10/2 period is a really great show from top to bottom actually w 4 other really good-great matches in Strong/Noble, Cabana/Evans, Daniels/Yang and the awesome hidden gem of the Lethal/Claudio/Nigel/Andrews 4 way + the Jim Cornette/Paul Bearer promo to debut Cornette as commisioner and the start of Lacey as Jimmy Jacobs & Whitmer's manager. You take away Kobashi/Joe from the 10/1 show and there really isn't anything underneath of note except the Daniels/Sydal/Azrieal 3 way and them finally pulling the trigger on Jade Chung breaking away from Prince Nana.
  5. Raven's 4 part Secrets of the Ring series was really good. A fair bit is stuff he re-hashes from other shoots but it's not too much and if you haven't heard them then of course it's not an issue. Al Snow's was OK. Nothing blow away but there's some interesting stuff in thear. I'd also recomend the Konnan/Cornette combo Straight Shootin dvd and Cornette's recent History of the WWF 1997 which was one of the best shoots i've seen in a long time. On that note, Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast is easily the best show going today. Since he's actually friends with everyone he interviews he goes a lot more in depth then your usual "wikipedia look up" type shows which makes for a lot of really great stories getting told.
  6. Re TNA drug testing - I remember a story from a while back about how they did 1 or 2 rounds of it but didn't actually bother to punish any of the people who tested positive and then never did it again. ???? Not sure what you mean. He got injured, had surgery on his leg and died because the idiot Dr didn't tell him he wasn't supposed to fly afterwards so he got a blood clot as a result which led to his death, nothing to do with wrestling or drugs. Because it happened a while ago I might have had my facts wrong. I thought with the clot he didn't do a follow up with a Dr. and tried to get by on his own. As in fighting through the injuries like a lot of wrestlers do. Well, the timeline went something like Sunday - Got injured Monday - had the surgery Tuesday - Worked TNA tv taping in a wheel chair, could be wrong but don't recall him doing anything physical that would have made his injury worse. Late Tues or Wed - Flew home which caused the blood clot Thursday - died Sunny went into a lot of detail about what happened in one of her shoots, i've forgotten a lot of it but the basic gist was that he def wouldn't have flown home had they known what could happen and that he'd have been totally fine had he just stayed around Florida so it basicaly boils down to bad medical advice as the reason he passed away.

  8. Been forever since i've seen anything of him from that time period but I always recall really liking Kensuke back then. Have no memory of ever seeing this match though, what's the source, TV, PPV, house show?
  9. To answer my own question I tracked down the 12/88 Gilbert vs Windham match. Windham plays cocky champ to start, Gilbert gives him more trouble then he was exspecting, Windham gets serious and starts kicking ass, Gilbert proves how tough he is and won't stay down, Windham has to resort to cheating to win. Gilbert gets in his face post match, gets beat down by Flair & Windham for his trouble. Damn good stuff, simple but awesome story telling, the kind of match that makes you wish wrestling were still like this. When matches like this aren't even your high end work you can def point to a guy as one of the best in the world. Heck of a month for good ol' BW.
  10. FMW 2/12/1990 (Carribean Barbed Wire) Masanobu Kurisu vs Atsushi Onita Been a while since I watched but I recall this having decent in ring stuff made better by some great drama and selling on Onita's part. 4/1/1990 (Texas Death Match) Tarzan Goto & Atsushi Onita vs Dragonmaster & Masanobu Kurisu Just a great crazy brawl, one of the best matches of the year 11/5/1990 (WWA Brass Knuckles Title - Texas Death Match) Atsushi Onita © vs Mr. Pogo
  11. Personally it's not something i'd subscribe to just because i've got a trillion zillion unwatched shows in my collection as is so an entire channel based around 24/7 wrestling will do me no good but it's an awesome idea that I think will have a lot of success. Glad they're finally pulling the trigger
  12. Looking through tape list I came across Toyota/Yamada vs Sakie/Debbie 3/11/93, i'm guess that's the match whear she gets injured? Also, came across this buried on a random Lynch tape that has a mish mash of other stuff. Devil Masami & Debbie Malenko vs Dynamite Kansai & Plum Mariko from JWP 2/11/1993 Never even heard of this match before but checking PUNQ's list he has it rated ***3/4 so i'll have to pick this up sometime.
  13. Meltzer's said plenty of times he hates watching stuff on his computer. With the exception of a few of the big I-PPVs unless it comes on TV or he gets sent a DVD there's little to no chance he's going watch it.
  14. 3/15/1992 Toyota & Yamada over Yumiko Hotta & Suzuka Minami in UWA tag title match 3/20/92 Toyota & Yamada over Aja & Bison to win the 3WA tag belts in the double title match with the UWA tab belts also on the line 4/25/1992 Toyota over Kyoko - Toyota wins IWA title 4/29/1992 Toyota & Yamada over Kyoko & Hotta 6/27/1992 Toyota & Yamada over Hokuto & Kyoko in 3WA tag title match Sub story of Kyoko & Hokuto being on & off friends of Bull but not liking each other 7/15/1992 Toyota & Yamada over Aja & Kyoko in tag title match Sub story of Bison being injured by Aja in their JGP match, Aja is allowed to pick a replacement so she comes to the ring and shockingly calls out Kyoko, her #1 rival's top protoge who had allready wrestled earlier in the night to be her partner. Easily the #1 thing that ended up falling through the cracks for this set. Great match, like I mentioned above I thought it was easiy better then this one. Also has the FMW girls invading post match & chaos erupting in the angle that actually kicked off the whole interpromotional era. 8/30/1992 Aja over Toyota to win JGP 9/11/1992 Aja & Sakie over Toyota & Yamada - Aja pins Toyota 10/17/1992 Hotta & Suzuka over Toyota & Yamada - Hotta pins Toyota 11/4/1992 Kyoko & Takako over Toyota & Yamada - Kyoko pins Toyota So yeah, lot leading up to this match and I only mentioned a few highlights from this year, ton happened in 91 too. Def one of the better booked promotions in the world at the time. Funny to think about how I used to have the opposite opinion years ago, thinking AJW was a promotion full of great matches but the booking was very bland/non existent when nothing could be further from the truth.
  15. Heh, this is what you get for going backwards 96 - Interpromotional is largely a dead issue, folks teamed up with people from the other side all the time. 93 - war at it's peak, almost all the major shows feature a heavy amout of AJW vs LLPW, AJW vs JWP, AJW vs FMW or LLPW vs FMW matches (LLPW vs JWP wouldn't come until much later since they actually legit hated each other) 92 - The angle was JUST getting started, I think this was maybe only the 5th interpromotional match that had happend up to this point and only the 2nd to involve JWP. No wonder you're confused Also on the tape this match is from they show a big angle whear Toyota, Yamada, Hotta & Takako invaded a JWP show from November and get in a confrontation w OZ, Fukuoka, Kansai & the rest of JWP to set this up. Probably would have helped to see that
  16. You're rolling out something after Austin retired? Anyway, Stone Cold was sharing his beer with her. Would any bully share his favorite drink with someone he didn't like? Stacy heeled it up by showing she didn't like the beer, being kind of ungratefully about the generosity of Stone Cold's soft heart. So Stone Cold stunnered her. Always fuckin hated that Austin/Stacy angle for the reasons allready mentioned but also because they came back the next week, had Austin come out again to confront her and this time she chuged the beer happily then took off her shirt and danced. Yay peer pressure and violence, totall bully move. Are you talking about the Death match tournament final? Been a while since I watched it but I don't recall the anouncers or crowd having that much of a problem with it. LuFisto was always presented as a super tough chick, who enjoyed working the hardcore style and fought guys toe to toe all the time and if I remember correctly she actually beat Necro in that match. Totally diffrent then the Kiebler/Austin stuff.
  17. How's the Windham/Gilbert stuff? Seems like it'd be quite awesome on paper.
  18. Wait, stop, time out. Who is pimping Anderson as good? Everyone else on your list I know of places that have pockets of fans that think they're great and others that hate them but i'm not aware of anyone anywhear that's singing the praises of Mr Anderson as a guy you should like.
  19. Youtube to DVD isn't that hard actually if you want to make your own step 1) there's a million ways to save youtube files to your hard drive, www.keepvid.com works well step 2) then you use something like FLV converter http://www.flv-converter.org to change the file from FLV format to AVI or MPG or whatever step 3) then you can use any # of programs to covert the avi/mpg to DVD format, I use ConvertXtoDVD to DVD myself http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ *note* technically if you put the FLV files into convertx directly it will work but the majority of the time i've tried this the quality turns out like shit hence the need for step 2
  20. Yeah that about sums up how I feel, except that I like a lot of Flair's WWF come back run too I like a lot of Lawler's 45+ stuff though I do think the Miz matches are hugely overrated (good but not great) but I haven't seen anything from him in that time period as good as the Flair vs Savage feud in WCW either or say some of Flair's New Japan matches in 95. On the subject of Flair post 94 i'll randomly toss out him vs Bret in 98 at Sold Out as a match I really liked too.
  21. K, so something i've been thinking about lately. Someone mentioned pages & pages ago in this thread about Chris Daniels being a draw on the indies. A number of people have paid specifically to go see him wrestle so technically that's true but if that amount is only in the hundreds or even 1000 range it's hardly THAT impressive. I know there's no magic # but in general, how large does a crowd have to be for it to be impressive enough that you can claim it on your resume as one of the factors in your HoF candidacy? More then a couple thousand? 5000+??? 5 digit range? And once that person does reach that #, how many times does he have to hit it? Would someone who consistently drew crowds of a few thousand but rarely anything mega huge be a better candidate then someone who has a few giant gates a year and then low level stuff the rest of the time?
  22. Yeah, that was def meant as her big redemption moment after everything that had happened the past few months.
  23. Yes and that was awesome. As for the match, Who booked this shit, Herb Abrams? That was the weirdest thing I've ever seen in wrestling. Didn't the Rock N Roll Express do a match like this a year later? Cool, reading through all these 92 threads it's amazing how much stuff I still have clear memories of all these years later when (as many others have said for them) you can barely remember what happened a few weeks ago with a lot of modern wrestling.
  24. Yeah, with Joshi it's more of a moral code then a hard rule. You had to go REALLY over the top to get a full DQ. Also, depending on the ref, while you wouldn't get DQ'd for weapon use, you most often wouldn't be allowed to win with it either. Like you couldn't hit someone with a chair and then pin them, the ref wouldn't count until you did a proper leagal move first.
  25. Been a while since I watched this but I always thought it worked well. Sure Barry was kind of justified but good guys don't go for the balls, it's just not nice so I got whear Dustin was coming from too. If anything, the follow up was what got botched since I don't recall the split actually leading to a big feud between them or even a major singles match or 2.
