  2. I'm one of the bigger Daniels supporters around and fuck, even I think that's insane.
  3. Re Edge - I know he's not the most popular guy with a lot of posters here but dude's had a lot of matches that a lot of other people do think are great. Wouldn't vote for him myself even though I actually do like him a lot but I think he's got a pretty high chance of making it. Re Batista - Given how skinny he's gotten (like 1/3 the size he was at his biggest) if he ever comes back it sure won't be any time soon.
  4. Results from latest Observer Poll Funny since I highly doubt things will really go this way. For as much as fans love the guy, he has no chance in this thing.
  5. Watched this tonight, nothing to really add that hasn't been mentioned, just as good as people are saying. Forgot how awesome the comentary was back then and Doink/Heenan seems like it would have been one of the all time great pairings had they ran with it. Does anyone have a good timeline for who played Doink and when? His Wiki page has a rundown of the diff people who've used the character but doesn't go into great detail on when the switch happened. Also thinking about it, i'm surprised no one's ever really stolen his flying whoopie cushion move, really cool looking dive that seems fairly easy and safe to do as far as dives go. Also surprised no one has stolen the stump puller either, wasn't used in this match but it's also another cool move he used to do. Sigh, this made me sad I missed most of evil Doink's run since I temp stoped watching WWF in late 92/early 93 due to freakin Papa Shango giving me nightmares
  6. Marty Jannetty vs Doink 6/14/93 Besides being the set up for the 2/3 falls match that made the set, this is almost as good though it only goes around half the time.
  7. RVD's a bad example for the subject at hand I think since he was blatantly doing "self concious epic" on purpose. The entire premise of his character was a cocky "whole f'n show" look how awesome I am attitutde, look at all the cool shit I can do, stop, point at self, cheer me bitches. And it 100% worked too and made him the most popular guy in the company by a large portion at his peak.
  8. You do sound like a bitter old man. I would honestly prefer to hear about what you do like because most of your recent posts are all about your hatred for WWE. Create a thread of awesome matches El-P would like us to watch. I know, I realize that. Blame me stumbling on MitB and having my brain trying to get around the fact people actually enjoy this stuff. I shouldn't even try to watch it, WWE does no good for me, and then I'm playing an unviable role. I did contribute to the yearbook threads with positive comments though, although not as much as I would like to for various reasons. Pft, what you really need to do is get back to pimping old school FMW and ripping matches. I need more Sambo Asako in my life.
  9. Abraham Lincoln's NWA title loss. He couldn't balance his political career with the demand for more and more defenses in the exspanding American territories so they worked out an elaborate plan to have him drop the strap via screw job so he could still keep his heat. Little known fact, a young Gypsy Joe who was only 20 years into the business at that point worked as the ref.
  10. I'll second or third the love for Panther/Atlantis 8/11, one of the best lucha matches i've seen. Also want to recomend Satanico, Perro Aguayo Sr & Cien Caras vs Octagon, Vampiro & Konnan from the same show. Really good hate filled brawling match I uploaded both matches earlier this year if anyone wants to take a look http://board.deathvalleydriver.com/index.php?showtopic=54926
  11. Personally, I can't see how someone could vote for Saint and not include Daddy and certainly Kent Walton. Although the belief from some in the UK that I've read is that Saint would do well this year based solely on his recent US exposure. But then if you are only to base your criteria for entry on ringwork (which I think is the primary reason for Saint) then you need to include contemporaries such as Jim Breaks, Steve Grey etc. However, those guys are clearly hurt by the lack of exposure that they have had in comparison to Saint. Don't know enough about Walton to comment. I know just enough about Daddy to know that he's a big enough deal to atleast be in consideration. For Saint he did have a number of title reigns though i'm not qualified to say w/in the context of the British sceen at the time how important titles were. The few times i've seen one of the title matches it was always treated as a huge deal and during one of them the anouncer mentioned that it was considered a rare treat to get one on free television. Also in his interview on Cabana's podcast Saint mentions that he always wanted to hold onto the belt because it did legit get him more money/bookings. Don't know how much weight people want to give this but he also mentioned in the same interview how the WOS shows got syndicated to a number of other countries within Europe and Africa and stuff so he and others became well known outside of just England because of it. Anyways, I think the biggest thing for Saint is that he has had a lasting legacy beyond his peak and become such a big deal and influence to further generations of fans and wrestlers. Based on ring work alone he's awesome ofcourse but Meltzer pointed it out himself on an old radio show that there were a bunch of guys equally as talented back then which I def agree with having watched a fair bit of WOS myself.
  12. In RE's defense, i've known lots of parents who tell their kids stupid shit like that including my own so it's not an uncommon ocurance. Just because it is common doesn't mean that it is okay to do it, no? No, not saying that. My point was just, in a thread who's sole purpose seems to be "hey everyone let's all point and laugh at how stupid/weird/crazy RE was" the story about his Dad whether good or bad isn't THAT out thear.
  13. Yeah, good stuff. Haven't seen this since it first aired, don't recall a ton about the match but I still really clearly remember the angle even now
  14. I should give this a re-watch sometime, i've seen it once and remember it being one of the weaker Rumbles ever.
  15. I've only seen a handfull of his matches but in every one I watched he was crazy over and massively loved by most of the audiance. From most acounts i've heard from people that worked with him he was a jerk backstage and he cleary wasn't any good from a technical/skill point of view but you can't really deny he was still a really big deal regardless. Of the people I actually know enough about to comment on i'd vote for any of the following R&R, Sting, Hamada, Williams, Atlantis, Wagner Jr, Saint, Bill Apter & Jerry Jarrett
  16. Heh, missed this comment. Now i'm curious to see what you'd think about the Momoe Nakanishi 30 & 60 min draws she had with Maekawa. (Natsuki is more or less a Momoe clone)
  17. Meh, that's human nature period, you can pretty much apply that to life itself.
  18. Good int, I listened to that yesterday then watched the 8/26/10 Masters vs McIntyre match people were pimping a few pages back. I could def see what Masters was talking about re his selling. I didn't think the match overall was THAT great but Masters' performance once Drew went after his leg was awesome.
  19. The camera thing has bothered me forever too. It's weird in that I don't always notice it but any time I do it becomes unbearable to watch with them literally never going more then a few seconds without switching. Yeah, I always take that as being a nice way of saying "fucking sucks" myself
  20. In RE's defense, i've known lots of parents who tell their kids stupid shit like that including my own so it's not an uncommon ocurance.
  21. .....a little part of me is sad I got that refrence, a bigger part of me is amused....
  22. Former not the latter, there's plenty of matches whear she doesn't go full blast on people. It was always a concious decision as she could work fine without the stiffness when she wanted to.
  23. Is this the one that involved Maniac Mike Davis & the moon rock?
  24. Same here, checked luchawiki thinking/hoping he might be related to Martha but nothing on that front. Short google search all I could find is that he seemed to be a texas mainstay who previously worked in World Class and Tully Blanchard's fed.
  25. Read that whole thing, kind of wish I hadn't. I'd gone my whole life without knowing who Ayn Rand was or even hearing her name mentioned before today actually. Also gone several years not paying THAT close attention to Resident Evil or thinking the stuff I did read of his was that out of whack. I was a tinnier bit happier before today.
