  1. This is one of the reasons I can't ever abandon the notion of there being a set of common criteria. And extreme cases in my view prove it. No one bats for Jerry Saggs for #1; very few drop Funk, Flair etc out of their 100s It seems to me there are reasons beyond pure subjective judgment that explain that.
  2. Has anyone ever watched his matches against Johnny Powers? I find Powers a fascinating, curious and more or less forgotten figure in wresting history.
  3. For those not on Twitter, some backstory to this angle.
  4. Bizarrely, there is a chance I might be the high vote on Low-Ki. Fucking BIGLAV.
  5. There aren't 150 people who post about old-school wrestling on PWO. This thing obviously got bigger through Twitter and the podcast networks. It wouldn't surprise me if the final results are now less PWO-oriented than if only the forum regulars had voted. The wider pull of voters is similar to what happened in 2006 when people were invited from outside Smarkschoice to participate and a better snapshot of 2016 vs. 2006 than a smaller turnout would of been. But yes, Flair is in danger of not finishing #1. Yes, I also wonder if someone like Kurt Angle, the most definitively "un-PWO" choice may end up ranking.
  6. Jones looks excellent in some of that stuff and also vs. Brisco. The Mid-Atlantic guys could all go.
  7. Also, totally forgot to say, Stacey leading the divas revolution on PWO-PTBN! Have we ever had a female co-host on any of the shows? I think it might be a first.
  8. You know it's ironic, all the 100s of shows I've done, and I put such genuine love into those five, and I don't think I've ever had heat like that before (or actually even heat at all!). I find it funny really. I also think that Marty, Pete and Loss each put forward damn good cases for him in their respective parts. And it is also clear that Will "lost" the debate episode I know elliot is joking too btw, a wind-up merchant. -------------------------- In other news, I'm offering a reward for anyone who can get me the name of the OTHER Tom Zenk voter!
  9. I got to listen to this hours before everyone else and I really really enjoyed it. Matt and Stacey just transition seamlessly from the board to audio form. And there's just this amazing sense of the written PWO coming to life as you listen. Also, as two of the least typical voters around, I enjoyed how varied and different the lists have been so far. These guys had never done a podcast before, I have to give them huge props for stepping up to share their lists, and for being so effortlessly natrual together. And I can't wait for more. One thing I have to say though ... Jimmy, you sound posh for an Aussie!
  10. The reaction shows haven't been on PWO-PTBN feed for some time now. Not since MSG show 2015. If you look here: http://placetobenation.com/podcasts/ PTBN feed shows on left (and Kevin Kelly) PWO-PTBN shows on right
  11. It's just occurred to me that the 1930s Delta blues act The Mississippi Sheiks (known for "Sitting on Top of the World" and "The Jazz Fiddler") would have been a tremendous name for a southern middle-eastern heel act. Always thought that it's just such a kickass name. Awesome band too.
  12. Let's celebrate all the diversity we are seeing!
  13. The Amazing American Airwolves?
  14. American Assholes American Airheads American Arrows American Aardvarks No, something isn't working. I think maybe .... American Animals
  15. I forgot to mention during everything, that I was not generally a fan of all the really obvious little visual cues back to "Wrestlemania moments" past that were scattered through this show. All I could think about is those video games they put out. There's something about meme culture that fundamentally rubs me up the wrong way. I think it's this thing where the cue stands in for actual knowledge, and the audience gets to feel smug about themselves in a way that I think is totally undeserved. There's also some sort of sign and referent dislocation going on.
  16. That's a monster rating for Zayn vs Nakamura.
  17. OJ, is there a difference in your view between the NWA style of matwork you've said before that you don't care for and Inoki's style? Can you talk through it?
  18. I possibly might have ranked Schmidt but I decided not to rank any golden age workers. Schmidt is by far my fave from that era.
  19. How do you see the comparison to Baba in the 80s?
  20. I ranked him primarily on his 1970s work.
  21. 491 - Kuniaki Kobayashi 2006 Ranking: honourable mentnion Points: 23 # of Ballots: 2 Average Vote: 89.50 High Vote: 80 Low Vote: 99 Red Pants! One of my favourite guys. If there is anyone I regret not ranking it's him. I wonder who the two voters were.
  22. I guess my point is that the script is already written for Charlotte: she's going to have a historic career, and they are taking a ten-fifteen year view. In some ways the booking is Giant Baba-ish and everyone is being too impatient.
