One small thing: On the booking of the finish to the women's match. I no longer think that they think about how things look now but how they'll look in like ten years. I think there's this weird deal where they have the idea of writing history. So what they care about is either the historic image of Jericho weeping like he's just won Wimbledon or Shane off cage OR the historic idea of Charlotte following in Flair's footsteps and having a monster title run. So there's a detachment from what is needed in the booking. I won't be surprised if she holds on to the belt for a whole year.

I had Bobby Fulton at #146 one place above expressionist PWO cult-favourite John Tenta.

Is betting allowed? I want to start a book.

I'm just thinking of the most horrendous ever speed dating event. "I'd like to show you some of my own limbwork some time"

Mine would be Perro Aguayo vs. Jerry Lawler sometime between 83-84. I meant our "perfect match" in terms of the voter on the board who most closely aligns with our own views Someone should develop a script that can run on OKCupid to this end. "Hi, I noticed you were also the high vote on Mr Fuji, can I buy you a drink sometime?" You ranked Tommy Rogers He ranked Bobby Fulton You are a 94% MATCH!

The Best of Titans of Wrestling Volume #3
JerryvonKramer replied to Ricky Jackson's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I finished off listening to this earlier and one thing that struck me is how early on we all fell into our roles on the show. I think some of these clips were from like episode #3 and I don't think you'd know listening back. Kinda surprised me, I remember those early shows feeling more awkward. But then I always think shows are worse than they are while we are recording. -
I really wish we could have had the first half of this cos Kal just fucking owned Johnny and then when I came in, he owned me too. All I asked him was why he transitioned from the booth to being the interviewer in 1982 and his response was "In typical British fashion ... Let me tell you, I've been broadcasting since the 1950s! So why don't you shut your fat mouth!" He also told us a story about Moolah chasing him around the ring because he'd called her age out on commentary that basically had us on the floor. I also asked him a question about Gorilla Monsoon and he went on this whole spiel about how the English have the worst pronunciation and speak the worst English anywhere. His affections are also clearly for the Backlund era. We asked him pretty open questions, and he took it to Backlund rather than Hogan, which I thought was interesting. He also told us that him and Dick were told nothing by the office and just made it up as they went along. Which is what we'd always thought. And there was a bit where he burst into giving us a bit of the sort of commentary he used to do. When I saw it hadn't taped, I think I lost my own body weight in sweat.

The ones I'd cite automatically without even thinking would be: Arn and Ole vs. Rock n Rolls (Starrcade 86) Arn and Tully vs. Luger and Windham (Clash 1) Arn and Larry Z vs. Steamer and Dustin (Clash 17) Arn vs. Windham (TV match from 92) You don't have ANY of these even at four stars?

Doesn't look like Joe Lanza voted, can't imagine he'd anonymise himself!
-
I had DK at #85 so he definitely has at least one voter.
-
Ha ha, I'll be truly shocked if there was another Zenk voter!
-
Once the entire list is out, I was thinking we could probably calculate -- for lack of a better term -- our "eccentricity" rating. An eccentric pick is when you were the only voter for a guy, the more people voting for that guy, the less eccentric he becomes as a pick. I was trying to think over who might be my most eccentric pick. Maybe Rick Steiner?

I initially though Karl and thought "Yeah, that would rule." Realized you meant Simon and yeah, thatd rule too. I thought he meant Frank haha. Now I'm imagining Cesaro going back through time challenging legendary wrestlers. There's an original gimmick! Quantum Leaping Lanny

Did you stick in a singles ballot in the end goc? I think Lawler will get enough #1 votes that he'll rank very well, but will probably also miss out on more ballots than the other big guns.

#14 My call on this guy is Ricky Steamboat.

Just wanted to say somewhere GREAT job on this Steven. I give you a hard time sometimes, but this is really and truly an amazing job!

I'm not debating it beyond that. The feeling is probably irrational, but It is what it is. See also Dylan's recent long post. I have hopes that the new 80s DVDR sets will kickstart that feeling of focus, but we'll see, I guess. On a separate note, aside from my weird feelings about the board slowly changing, just mathematically I would legit be shocked if Bryan finished #1, only because with Funk and Flair (and with anyone ranking Misawa), in the vast majority of cases even "low balling" them ends up with the top 10 finish. The lowest vote I've seen or heard for Flair in a list so far is #20. I think Bryan will have a lot of top 20 finishes, he was #16 on my list, and I've seen people lower than that, while Flair (and Funk and Misawa) will have a lot of top 10 and top 5 finishes. I just can't see Bryan getting enough #1 votes to see him over the line. Just my call if I was going to make an educated bet.

551 (tie) - Ricky Fuyuki 2006 Ranking: unranked Points: 3 # of Ballots: 1 High Vote: 98 (Dr. Ackermann) That's a surprise that he only got 1 vote. We discussed him in the honrable mentions on WTBBP and he was someone who only just missed out for me. 528 - Mr. Fuji 2006 Ranking: unranked Points: 11 # of Ballots: 2 Average Vote: 95.50 High Vote: 92 Low Vote: 99 558 (tie) - Tor Kamata 2006 Ranking: unranked Points: 1 # of Ballots: 1 High Vote: 100 LOL. Who made this vote? Titans 4 Life!

I am reasonably confident and have been for some time that Flair will finish #1 when all is said and done. If Bryan finishes #1, I won't pretend that it wouldn't disappoint me tremendously, it would. Not really in terms of the relative merits of each guy, but more in terms of what it says about the overall community right now. I am an old-school fan and I've loved PWO primarily because it is the best place anywhere to discuss old-school wrestling in-depth. If Bryan finishes #1 over Flair, it's just a strong indication that the community is changing and moving away from that old-school focus. That's the thing I care about. I've never been any different. Cut me and I bleed old-school.

Right, I guess it's come to saying that I'll never ask about anyone's sexuality ever again on this forum. Bonkers but if it means never having another conversation along these lines, let's go for that.

Controversial views like asking if someone is gay?
-
Flair was booked uber-duber weak though if you watch his run in any detail.
-
I also ask these questions as a man who has a pair of pink hair straighteners, "emergency moisturiser" in my car and office and who spends a huge amount of his spare time watching oiled up men pretend to fight each other. And there have been plenty of times I've taken stick for all three of those things. So y'know. I also think that this kind of does matter to Nakamura's presentation, especially if he's going to be booked by the man who created Adorable Adrian Adonis, The Genius and Goldust. Nakamura is clearly playing with gender expectations in interesting ways. Just think people are too quick sometimes to jump to defensive positions, and no good comes of it. And I don't think it's an irrelevant question either because if he WAS gay, it would be a huge deal. It's still something wrestling hasn't really addressed properly, beyond Pat Patterson on the reality show really.
