PROUD MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN WRESTLING ASSOCIATION SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TV Saturday 14th January 1984 Taped in front of a live studio audience at the WTBS Television Studio in Atlanta, GA Hosted by Charlie Platt and Gordon Solie Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt welcome us to another exciting week of Southeastern Championship Wrestling, this week we will see National Heavyweight Champion “Wildfire” Tommy Rich in action, Jimmy Golden will be here for his Beat The Champ Television Championship Challenge, Roy Lee Welch and Ken Lucas will be in action and much, much more. At this time we welcome Jimmy Golden, who joins us for his Beat The Champ Television Championship Challenge, last week Golden beat youngster Marty Jannetty to go 1/5. Jimmy Golden tells Solie and Platt that this exercise is pointless as he will steam roll all challenges on route to getting a title shot, which for everyone’s knowledge will be against “Bullet” Bob Armstrong for the Southeastern Heavyweight Championship, especially after pinning him this past Monday. Gordon and Charlie pull the bag out with this week’s names, Charlie holds the bag open for Gordon to choose, Solie puts his hand in and pulls out a piece of paper and reads the name, this weeks challenge is Larry Hamilton. Larry Hamilton comes to the ring and as he slides into the ring, and Golden lays in the boot, referee Dave Hebner pushes Golden back to allow him to get to his feet, Hebner calls for the bell. The match starts and Golden goes straight for Hamilton, Hamilton holds his own in there but Golden is just too much and gets the win following a Piledriver and the cover for the win at 6 minutes. Jimmy Golden is now 2/5 in his quest for a title match against either the National or Southeastern Heavyweight Champions. === Advert === The returning team of Ken Lucas and Roy Lee Welch join Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt at the announcer’s desk. Lucas and Welch tell Solie and Platt that they had the Bodies defeated this past Monday and Eaton was just about to pass out in the sleeper hold only for Jim Cornette to get involved costing them the victory. But not too worry they have gone to Stanley Blackburn with the footage and they have been granted a rematch for the Southeastern Tag Team Championship. This news brings out the champs, The Heavenly Bodies with manager Jim Cornette and Big Bubba Lynch. Jim Cornette is outraged and tells Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt that Stanley Blackburn has lost his mind if he thinks The Heavenly Bodies will defending their titles against these has bean’s again, especially as they beat them already. Gordon Solie informs Cornette that there is more, not only is there a rematch, but it’s going to happen in the main event later in the show, at this point Cornette and the Bodies are going wild. Gordon informs them that there’s one more stipulation he needs to tell them and that is both Cornette and Lynch will be barred from ringside, and if they do get involved the Heavenly Bodies will be stripped off their titles and suspended from Southeastern Championship Wrestling. The studio audience goes wild and today’s main event is set for later on in the show. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === We return from the break with Mike Davis in the ring waiting for his opponent National Heavyweight Champion “Wildfire” Tommy Rich makes his way to the ring for their match. The match goes for about 6 minutes when Tommy Rich gets the win following a Thesz Press and the pin for the win. Following the match Tommy Rich makes his way to the announcers table. Rich tell Solie and Platt he’s loving life as National Champion and can’t wait for his next challenger once he’s done with Robert Fuller, as he knows Fuller has somehow managed to get a “Last Chance” Title match, but not to worry, if he doesn’t win this Monday he won’t be entitled to another title match for 6 months. Then all of a sudden the mystery blonde women who has twice made an appearance at live events to celebrate with Tommy Rich comes to the announcers table. She offers her hand to Rich and says she would just like 2 minutes of his time, she introduces herself as Nickla Roberts and she’s would like to offer her services as a valet to Tommy Rich. Rich says it’s a lovely offer, but he’s done okay on his own up until this point in his career and will decline. Nickla Roberts tell Rich he should reconsider, as she could be an asset in more ways than one. Again Rich declines, and walks off. Gordon Solie comforts Roberts who looks unhappy at the rejection, Robert’s mumbles under her breathe, Rich will regret the day he turned me down. === Advert === The Fabulous Ones join Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt following the break, Lane and Keirn says that they’ve had enough of the imposter going around pretending to be the Fabulous Ones and they are challenging the Hollywood Blondes to a “Come As You Are, Falls Count Anywhere” match on Monday evening in Birmingham to settle things. The Hollywood Blondes come out and say the Fabs are the imposters and have been coping them for years, they also say they will accept The Fabulous Ones challenge but on one condition, The Fabulous Ones have to put their name on the line? So if they lose, then they will no longer be known as the Fabulous Ones. Lane and Keirn accept and promise they are not worried about losing their name as there going to kick the tar out of the Blondes. The Blondes leave and The Fabs make their way to the ring for their match against The Medic’s. The Fabulous Ones defeat their opponents in 4 minutes following a Karate Kick from Lane to Medic #1. Following the bell, The Hollywood Blondes storm the ring and attack The Fabulous Ones and a brawl would kick off until the locker room empties to split the two teams up. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === Robert Fuller with his brother Ron Fuller joins Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt, Robert Fuller says he ready for his final chance at Tommy Rich and the National Heavyweight Title this Monday and he knows he can regain his title. Then from the back, Nickla Roberts makes her way back out, she is now offering her services as a valet to Robert Fuller and together they will be able to hurt Rich where it really hurts and can take his title. Robert Fuller tells Roberts’ thanks but no thanks darling, he doesn’t need no broad in his corner messing things up for him and she should get stomping out of here as he needs to concentrate on regaining his National Heavyweight Championship. Nickla Roberts slaps Fuller across the face for the broad comment, Fuller grabs her and threatens to hit her, only to let go, and tell her he doesn’t want to see her face around here again. Robert leaves the announcers area and Gordon Solie tells Roberts maybe she should reconsider being a valet, she angrily snaps at Solie and tells him to leave her alone. === Advert === Next up Southeastern Heavyweight Champion “Bullet” Bob Armstrong comes to the ring for a match with Tommy Lane. In a competitive match Armstrong gets the win with a Jaw Breaker, the match went for 8 minutes, Lane jumped Armstrong at the bell to get the early advantage, but “Bullet” managed to turn around the match and get the win. Following the match Bob Armstrong joins Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt, “Bullet” tells Solie and Platt that although he was pinned by Golden this past Monday he knows Golden loaded his boot, and this Monday he wants a rematch but this time one-on-one. Jimmy Golden with manager Ron Fuller storm out, saying Armstrong is talking rubbish if he thinks he loaded his boot, he beat him fair and square in the middle of the ring. Armstrong says that if Golden is so confident and can beat him cleanly this week he will grant Golden a Southeastern Heavyweight Title match, but he knows Golden cant. Golden takes up “Bullet” on his challenge and then he says when he gets his 5th victory in the Beat The Champ Television Championship Challenge then he will have to face his cousin who he knows will win the National Heavyweight title this Monday against Tommy Rich and the Studd Stable will have all the titles. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === Today’s main event see’s The Heavenly Bodies, Bobby Eaton and Tom Pritchard defending their titles against Roy Lee Welch and Ken Lucas. The Bodies look naked without Jim Cornette and Big Bubba Lynch in their corner. The Match starts off slow with Lucas and Welch trying to get their hands on the champs who are insisting on time wasting. When Lucas and Welch finally get some traction and get a hold of the champs the fight is on, every way the champs turn Welch and Lucas are there. The finish comes when Lucas clotheslines Eaton over the top rope to the floor and at the same time Welch and Pritchard are going at it, Pritchard goes for a dropkick and Welch dodges it, and slaps on the Fuller Lock and Pritchard gives up, the referee Dave Hebner calls for the bell, we have new tagt team champions, Welch and Lucas celebrate in the ring as we go off the air. === Show Ends === Quick Results 1. Jimmy Golden defeats Larry Hamilton in 6 minutes, Golden is now 2/5 in the Beat The Champ Television Championship Challenge. 2. That's the best way to come into a new area is give them what they want to keep em coming. Don't forget Wahoo, he was huge in San Antonio. Of course, but in our timeline, these guys were massive players for 6 months and shouldn't be forgotten. Shame The Fabs didn't come in and show them wannabe Fantastic's who's the true babyface team of 1984 is... If only we worked together, the babyface bloodbath would ensure and the fans would scream, cry, and weep for the ones who are true to their hearts. Shame the Fantastics aren't in the Fabulous Ones league...

Great show here, absolutely love Dusty Rhodes here, down to a tee, and I think I've said it before but the Florida locker room is stacked. Loved the Santa Clause angle with Da Vaun Ewicks.

Southeastern ~ The Turner news keeps coming, WTBS and Turner are happy with the ratings, but are concerned Fuller won't commit to running his A crew in Georgia, for fear of killing off his bread and butter (Alabama). This weeks Georgia loop was headlined by Johnny Rich & Larry Hamilton vs Tommy Lane & Mike Davis, where a few months back it would of had Orndorff, Roberts, Sawyer and Tommy Rich. ~ And to add to the underlying tension, Turner has pushed to Fuller booking Freelancers such as Andre, Brody and Hansen to help come across more national and he feels Watts is doing a good job using outside talent to supplement his roster to run two solid crews. Fuller has said to be against booking in outside talent, even after the success of Superclash. ~ Something that won't help Fuller and Turners relationship, we have heard word Ron Fuller has been having talks with Jerry Jarrett about returning to East Tennessee, Knoxville, Kingsport and Chattanooga being the towns being looked at. East Tennessee was part of Southeastern before the Gulas and Welch split in 1980. ~ Fuller seems to be high on Eric Embry but not so much Ken Timbs, their could be a split on the cards. ~ Phil Hickerson (who is believed to be the driving force behind the East Tennessee move), who has been working behind the scenes with Lucas, Welch and Fuller has reached out to WWA around one roster member to return to the area. ~ The working arrangement between Southeastern and the AWA looks stronger than ever, yet another young team are making their way to Alabama, much like the Latin Lovers last year, for an extended period with an experienced team going the other way. ~ Robert Fuller and Tommy Rich matches are drawing well, which has delayed another top heel coming in. Look for the blonde who has been appearing at house shows to play a big part in 1984. ~ Is there a better tag team division in North America than the one in Alabama at the moment, Nightmares, Bodies, Fabs, Blondes, Studd, Riches, Lightning Express and The Assassins. The Nightmares-Express feud is probably one of the best technical wrestling feud your see outside of Japan. ~ Talking of Japan, it's believe in tape trading circles the big January 4th Supershow from the Tokyo Dome is slowly doing the rounds, we will be review the show next week.

Any interest in the Flame guys? He's a great talker and excellent heel. And want very little in return for a 3 month loan...

Boon replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Beau James is a national treasure. Love that guy. I finished up listening to him last night on the train, but feel I missed so much as so much was going on, so going to go back and relisten. I searched for his name on iTunes couldn't find his podcast but found an interview on Gene Jacksons podcast. Searching on the Wrestling Classics forum for East Tennessee info and came across some great photos from this era and try and post them up. -

It didn't take long for Horner's partner Brad Armstrong to run out and make the save, which in turn caused a 4 man brawl and the referee calling for the bell. - 4. In a match of the new tag teams, The Hollywood Blondes (Eric Embry and Ken Timbs) go to a no contest with The Fabulous Ones (Stan Lane and Ken Timbs). The match never even got started, as the moment the Blondes made their way to the ring, to the Fabs music and attire, the Fabulous Ones leave the ring and run to the aisle and the brawling starts. Johnny Rich and Larry Hamilton defeat Tommy Lane and Mike Davis when Rich hits a Sunset Flip on Lane and gets the 3 count.

Hansen does the business, be interesting to see where he turns up with the belt, hope no dodgy NWA promoters try anything. Great to see a young Badd Company teaming here, always been one of my favourite tag teams. Mansfield eats the fall for the Playboy Club, couldn't see anyone else on that team taking it, hoping for big things from the Playboy, another favourite of mine...

I have The Flame/The Assassin (Jody Hamilton) available for an extended period of time, I'm after very little in return, just someone who can fit into Southeastern. Send me your offers...

PROUD MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN WRESTLING ASSOCIATION SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TV Saturday 7th January 1984 Taped in front of a live studio audience at the WTVY Television Studio in Dothan, AL Hosted by Charlie Platt and Gordon Solie A new year and a new video sequence to welcome us. We open this week’s show with a special announcement that Southeastern Championship Wrestling will be reverting back to a 60 minute show, but fans are not too worry, there will be the same action, just all piled into 60 minutes instead of 90. We are then shown clips of Superclash where “Wildfire” Tommy Rich finally managed to overcome the Studd Stable and more importantly Robert Fuller to capture the National Heavyweight Title. “Wildfire” comes to the announcer’s desk to join Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt, “Woo daddy, it feels good to be here in Dothan with the National Heavyweight Title at last, doesn’t it look good on me Gordon. 1984 is the year of the “Wildfire” and I want it to be known I’m open to all challenges.” With this comment the Studd Stable, Robert Fuller, Jimmy Golden and Ron Fuller come to the announcers desk, Robert says he would like to congratulate Tommy Rich, but he must remind him, that he made of held the title longer than his famous World Title reign in 1981 so far, he won’t be holding it much longer as he’ll be dropping the title to him this Monday, as Robert in invoking his rematch clause. === Advert === This week’s opening contest sees a returning Ken Lucas facing off against Tony Falk. Lucas who has a rich history and is a multiple time champion here in Southeastern, including up to recently being Tag Team Champion this past May. Lucas makes quick work of Falk, and defeats him in 4 minutes when he puts Falk to sleep with a Sleeper Hold. Following the match Ken Lucas joins Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt, Ken says he has spent the last 6 months wrestling in Texas for Joe Blanchard’s Southwest Championship Wrestling but he’s happy to be back to the place he calls home, Southeastern. He says although this is his 1st appearance on TV, he been wrestling for a few weeks back in the towns he’s missed so much while being in Texas. On Christmas day Lucas won a title match of his choosing and this Monday he’s cashing in, being as he left after being injured defending the Tag Team Titles and never got a rematch, he’ll be choosing a Tag Team Title Match with The Heavenly Bodies. Gordon says that’s great but who will be your partner? “Well Gordon I’m glad you asked, when wrestling in Texas, I travelled the roads with a long time friend from the Alabama area, that being this man”. Roy Lee Welch comes to the announcer’s desk, he says it’s great to be back in Southeastern as everyone knows he has family ties here. But for now, he and Ken Lucas have their eyes set on the Tag Team Titles this Monday. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === We return from the break with Gene Ligon and Josh Stroud in the ring waiting on their opponents The Hollywood Blondes, Ken Timbs and Eric Embry. The Blondes, making their in ring debut, made quite an impact at Superclash causing the Fabulous Ones to come up short in their Tag Team Title match with the Heavenly Bodies. The Blondes come out to the same ring music as the Fabulous Ones and are strutting like the Fabs, clearly the blondes are trying to mock and goad the Fabulous Ones. The Blondes make quick work of the team of Ligon and Stroud and defeat them in 6 minutes following a Stan Lane like Karate Kick from Eric Embry to Ligon followed by the pin. As the Blondes celebrate in the ring, Rick Stewart makes his way into the ring to conduct an interview with the Blondes. Stewart asks Embry and Timbs what their issue is with The Fabulous Ones, Embry tells Stewart that they don’t have a problem with The Fabulous Ones, more the Fabulous Ones have an issue with them, that’s the only reason they would copy the Hollywood Blondes look and moves, Stewart says he doesn’t believe that to be true, Timbs tell Stewart he doesn’t care what he thinks. From the back the Fabulous Ones charge the ring and try to get to the Blondes only for Embry and Timbs to slip out of the ring before they have a chance to get to them. The Fabulous Ones tell Rick Stewart that they aren’t copy cats and they will prove they are all original on Monday night in Birmingham. === Advert === We are now shown clips of the massive Southeastern Heavyweight Title Match where “Bullet” Bob Armstrong defeated The Flame. The new champ comes to the announcers table with 3 off his sons, Brad, Scott and Steve. “Bullet” introduces Steve as the latest member of the Armstrong family to join the wrestling ranks, and he will be forming a tag team with his brother Scott. Bob Armstrong says he’s so happy with his victory over the The Flame at Superclash, but now he must move on from The Flame at last. This Monday he is teaming with Scott and Steve against the Studd Stable team of Southeastern Television Champion Jimmy Golden and The Assassins. Scott and Steve Armstrong make their way to the ring and are facing off with The Nightmares, Danny Davis and Ken Wayne. The Nightmares have been having issues with Scott and Steve brother Brad and his partner Tim Horner as of late. In a competitive match, The Nightmares get the win, when Wayne and Davis swap over when The Armstrong brothers look like they’ve got the win, Steve goes to cover who he thinks is Wayne but it turns out to be Davis and he rolls him up for the 3 count at 7 minutes. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === Stanley Blackburn comes to the announcers table, he invites Jimmy Golden to come out and join him. Stanley Blackburn informs Jimmy Golden that there will be some changes for the Television Title. Firstly Golden will be in line for a title match of his choice if he can retain the title 5 more times. But after that he will have to give the title up. Golden interrupts and says you might as well give me a title shot now, as I’ll never lose. Blackburn goes on to say the belt will be replaced by a trophy and will now be called the Beat the Champ Television Championship. Each week an opponent will be drawn at random by Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt, each match will have a 10 minute time limit. We will start following the break. === Advert === We return from the break and Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt have a brand new Television Championship Trophy standing next to them, Platt holds a bag open for Gordon Solie to select a name out of the bag, Solie puts his hand in and pulls out Marty Jannetty. The youngster Jannetty comes to the ring full of energy, he climbs into the ring and Golden attacks him straight away and barely lets him get to his feet. Golden finishes off Jannetty with a Piledriver in 2 minutes. Golden celebrates and says he wants another go, Solie tells Golden he will have to wait until next week. Jimmy Golden is now 1/5 in his quest for a title match. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === Before today’s main event, The Heavenly Bodies along with Jim Cornette and Big Bubba Lynch come to the announcers table and address Ken Lucas’s decision to choose the Southeastern Tag Team Titles as his title match of choice. They laugh off the decision to choose Roy Lee Welch as his partner also, but Cornette says it’ll be a quiet night at the office as they should be able to finish off these two pretty quickly and get back out on the road. Ken Lucas and Roy Lee Welch come out to confront the Bodies and tell them, they’ve been up and down the roads here in Alabama, and two young punks like Eaton and Pritchard don’t worry them one bit. Now it’s time for tonight’s main event which see’s Southeastern Heavyweight Champion “Bullet” Bob Armstrong and Brad Armstrong defeat the team of Tommy Lane and Mike Davis in 9 minutes when “Bullet” Bob hits a Jaw Breaker on Davis followed by the pinful for the victory for the Armstrong Family. === Show Ends === Quick Results 1. Ken Lucas defeats Tony Falk in 4 minutes following a Sleeper Hold. 2. The Hollywood Blondes defeat Gene Ligon and Josh Stroud in 6 minutes following a Superkick followed by Embry getting the pinful. 3. The Nightmares defeat The Armstrong Brothers Scott and Steve in 7 minutes. 4. Jimmy Golden defeats Marty Jannetty in 2 minutes in his first Beat The Champ Television Championship, Golden is now 1/5. 5. Southeastern Heavyweight Champion "Bullet" Bob and Brad Armstrong defeat Tommy Lane and Mike Davis after 9 minutes of action.

Good idea, especially with AWA/NWA split areas like Chicago. Could we change Southern States to Southeastern... Oh yeah my bad I saw that "Southern States" thread and spaced when I was throwing it together. Not a problem pal, Southern States is never growing outside of what it is... On a side note, I'm shocked we have no one wanting to run WWF, we need JVK back booking it...
-
So I spoke with Goodhelmet earlier as I know he was planning on a big January 4th Japan show when he was booking New and All Japan, he's sent me the matches he wrote up, so I'll post them up later.
