Nowhere near as dumb as a concert tour during a pandemic.

Speaking of Cornette, we just had this: Which led to this: Cornette's become Dave Kingman. His average is low and he strikes out a ton, but he knocks it out of the park when he makes contact. And Jericho's tweet was the equivalent of a big fat hanging curveball over the middle of the plate.

RIP to James Harris and good riddance to the retrograde wrestling culture that begat the reprehensible Kamala gimmick.

WWE TV 08/03 - 08/09 Giannis is a future back to back MVP

So is Raw better than Smackdown now? Sure, Smackdown has Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles, but they also have the triumvirate of terror that is Braun Strowman, Bray Wyatt, and Baron Corbin. -
https://sturgis.com/events/all-events/eventdetail/333/-/fozzy Jericho's band is playing at the Sturgis motorcycle rally, where 250,000 dumbass bikers are congregating without masks. Road Wild is no longer the stupidest wrestling-related event to take place at Sturgis.

"Oh my God! Is that...is that RETRIBUTION?" Fuck off. -
The impact of Rocky III on Hogan's popularity has been greatly overstated. Here he is on Johnny Carson's show in 1982. When he does his pro wrestling spiel (he even says "Hulkamania is running wild"), the audience reacts like he's a minor league attraction with delusions of grandeur. He would have been a huge star in wrestling regardless, but he wouldn't have become a crossover star if he hadn't gone to New York. In fact, geography was probably Vince's biggest advantage. Being based in New York gave him cachet with the media that he wouldn't have had if he were based in Charlotte or Minneapolis.

The problem at the end of the day is that there was no way Verne could have matched what Vince was offering. Acquiescing to Hogan's demands to make him champion would have been even worse for the AWA in the long run because he still would have left without notice and the world champion in the eyes of their fans would have been working for the opposition. And for the record, Hogan/Vader at Superbrawl was really good.

If the goal is to use McAfee to draw in non-fans and make Cole a bigger star by association, it'll almost certainly backfire because any match they have will make pro wrestling look like a joke to outsiders. If they work competitively, then the guy who held the top title in NXT for over a year had his hands full with a retired punter. But Cole just kicking McAfee's ass would be equally stupid because McAfee is way more physically imposing and Cole doesn't come across as a credible asskicker. -

He's apparently big with the frat boy Barstool Sports crowd. But even assuming those are the kind of fans you want to attract, I can't imagine this appealing to them. More likely they'll have a laugh for a few minutes over their guy beating up a fake pro wrestler and then go back to sexually harassing female sportswriters on Twitter. But it gets better. Now uncle Paul is issuing a challenge on itty-bitty Adam's behalf. LO-fucking-L. https://www.wwe.com/shows/wwenxt/article/triple-h-pat-mcafee-adam-cole-takeover-xxx-espn-get-up -

Just imagine how much worse it would've been for Cole if Hunter hadn't been there to come to the aid of his son. -

In another case of being slow on the uptake, I literally just now realized that the name of the Stone Cold Stunner was partially inspired by Austin's previous ring name. -
I thought Conti showed a ton of potential in whichever Mae Young Classic she was in, so I was pleased to see that she looked really good in her match. I think she can be a huge star in AEW. On the other hand, I couldn't even finish the Nightmare Sisters match. Diva-tier dreck.

If Shane's big idea is to bring back Brawl for All, that's more evidence that Stephanie is the smart McMahon. -

Ratings in freefall? The solution is obvious. -
Becoming a star in wrestling is lot like becoming a rock star. It takes a combination of talent, charisma, and luck. While there's no foolproof formula, athletic ability and technique seem to be the best starting point. WWE has the athletic part down pat with all the NFL Combine crap they do at the Performance Center, but their creative process removes a crucial part of the equation. Even if the ideas the writers came up with were any good, most wrestlers are terrible actors. If they were any good at acting, they'd be in Hollywood and not at the PC. So they're not going to be nearly as convincing trying to get over a persona created for them as one they came up with and developed themselves, to say nothing of all the unnatural scripted verbiage that even Olivier would have trouble getting over.

Smackdown isn't an action movie. When I watch a wrestling program, I want to see fucking wrestling. This isn't pro wrestling. It's not even sports entertainment. It's low-budget horror schlock. If I want to see WWE-produced horror, I'll watch See No Evil. -

Why should anyone support any of the male babyfaces on this show when none of them had the courage to come to the aid of a defenseless woman? -
Remember that before Punk walked out, Bryan was set to face Sheamus in the midcard of WM30 with the main event being Batista's glorious coronation.
