  1. And shouldn't they be wearing white instead of red?
  2. Antonio Inoki had a living funeral today because of course he did. https://twitter.com/STRIGGA/status/921641939027587072
  3. Since everyone else is doing it, here's my hypothetical ballot. WRESTLERS: AJ Styles, Jun Akiyama, Sharpe Brothers, Akira Taue, Cien Caras, Blue Panther, Los Misioneros de la Muerte, Villano III, Dr. Wagner Jr., Johnny Saint NON-WRESTLERS: Gary Hart, Jimmy Hart, Howard Finkel, Jerry Jarrett, Don Owen I think the Crocketts are stronger candidates than Owen, but they're not about to drop off the ballot.
  4. I recall there being plenty of people, myself included, who were accepting of a Jinder title run because they figured there's no way it could worse than what Orton was doing. Just goes to show, be careful what you wish for.
  5. There's a lengthy discussions of this year's candidates in the latest Observer that ends with Dave providing his own ballot.
  6. Just to be clear, the double turn was at Uncensored, right?
  7. Roman Reigns? I'm only half-joking.
  8. As opposed to North Americans who I'm not sure saw him in context lobbying for him not to go in? To my knowledge, there are no North Americans with ballots who vote in the Europe category solely to vote against Daddy, while there are several who do that for him. Other European wrestlers end up getting screwed because the ones who vote for him and only him drive down everyone else's percentages.
  9. That hasn't stopped WWE before.
  10. Clean was very much a relative term in Eddy's case.
  11. It's disappointing how much the smaller territories get written off, by Dave especially, for not drawing huge crowds when they didn't have the population bases to do so anyway. Having a successful money making promotion for decades is impressive even if your biggest arena could only hold 3,000-4,000 instead of 10,000. Memorial Coliseum held way more than 4,000. So did Key Arena. Sure but those weren't their regular venues for Portland and Seattle like MSG was for WWF or Mid-South Coliseum was for Memphis. They would have been if Owen could have turned a profit running them. At least, that's what I imagine Dave would say. This is pretty much just speculation on my part, but I get the impression that Dave doesn't consider being consistently profitable in an era when the NWA cartel protected promoters from any real competition to be much of an accomplishment. I think he expects HOF-caliber promoters to run big shows at big arenas, or at the very least greatly expand business from where it had been.
  12. The clip I saw said that Roode was "an NXT champion, he's made the jump." It was phrased ambiguously enough to provide plausible deniability.

  14. I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's easier to be a great tag wrestler than a great singles wrestler. As for Roman, what can WWE do if the Shield reunion doesn't get fans behind him? From my perspective, the only arrow left in the quiver is to turn him heel and hope he develops an organic fan following.
  15. I guess I'll throw it out there. Does anybody want to give any matches ******? I don't know if I'd go so far as to award an extra star, but I consider the top five matches on my list of favorites (6/9/95, 6/3/94, 1/20/97, Hokuto/Kandori, Hart/Austin) to be a cut above my other ***** matches.
  16. No need to imagine. Look at WWE's attempt to recreate Final Deletion with the New Day at the Wyatt compound.
  17. I thought Harley looked great in the Funk and Andre matches (I'd personally give the nod to the latter). He's the guy whose stock rose the most in my eyes from the Houston footage.
  18. I'm curious as to everyone's pick as to the earliest all-time great match that transcends eras. Speaking personally, the earliest match I'd unequivocally go to bat for is Giant Baba vs. Billy Robinson on 7/24/76. There are a few 60s and 70s matches I'd like to re-explore, though.
  19. It's kind of funny that for all the talk of how in-ring ability is more important than ever to the modern fan, the division built around workrate was treated as a piss break until a promo guy who can't work a lick was made the centerpiece.
  20. The one on the 2007 DVD set took place at MSG on 1/23/89.
  21. Thanks to Shane, future generations are going to wonder what the big deal was about Foley getting thrown off the cell.
  22. I can't think of anyone who has been in multiple high-profile PPV marches with worse strikes than Shane McMahon.
  23. The Singh Brothers continue to be the only redeeming aspect of Jinder Mahal's act.
  24. Does anyone in the women's division have better chemistry than Charlotte and Natalya?
  25. The end of that match felt All Japan-esque with the New Day fighting back valiantly before being overwhelmed by the odds.
