  1. The gif was created by a guy on Reddit named HanAssholeSolo. As you can imagine, he's quite the character. https://twitter.com/th3j35t3r/status/881696975179087872/ Honestly, though, I don't see why people are flipping out over this. It's not like there's any norms of decency or decorum left to preserve.
  2. I'd say Akiyama's peak was from 1998 to 2000.
  3. I've always liked Chris Benoit vs. Orlando Jordan at Summerslam.
  4. I'm not sure there's much of a difference. Both of their brains were mush.
  5. A couple of my favorites that haven't been mentioned yet: Eddy Guerrero 02-05 Ricky Steamboat 91-94
  6. I only have a few matches saved-specifically, the ones from my top 100 list. I keep them on my hard drive with copies on Google Drive. I pay $1.99 a month for 100 GB of storage, which is more than sufficient for my needs. Everything else, I delete right after watching.
  7. A hero for our time: The Progressive Liberal Daniel Richards. http://deadspin.com/no-one-is-pissing-off-local-wrestling-crowds-like-the-1796437497
  8. All non-Japanese are considered gaijin. The fact that Rikidozan was ethnically Korean was hidden until after his death. Random question: how closely did old-school masked heels like the Destroyer and the Spoiler guard their identities? Were their real names generally known? Did they appear in public unmasked?
  9. I've seen it in lots of places. From Dave's Jumbo obit:
  10. I wish Dave wouldn't spend so much time on Twitter dunking on Russo apologists and other assorted morons. The occasional tweet to that effect is fine, but it seems like he spends half the day responding to easily rebuttable nonsense.
  11. Pogo being one of the guys who bullied Jumbo Tsuruta off their college wrestling team might be my favorite piece of wrestling trivia.
  12. Art is form and content. Wrestling is all form and no content.
  13. I really hate the idea that liking one kind of wrestling is more evolved than liking another. It's all equally stupid, just in different ways.
  14. The way babyfaces react to screwjob finishes is worse than the finishes themselves. In the past, babyfaces who got screwed over would get their heat back by kicking the heel's ass after the match or at least chasing him back to the dressing room. Nowadays, they just sit there dejectedly while the heel walks away triumphantly.
  15. I kind of like that the Singh Brothers are there primarily to get dropped on their heads by Orton.
  16. According to WWE's official SEC filings, average attendance at North American events was 6300 in 2010 and 5800 last year. That's a decline of 8 percent. I got the 10 percent figure from looking at 2009, when average attendance was 6500. You have a history of cherry-picking numbers from big shows while ignoring broader trends. You also have a history of insisting that various metrics are flat when they're actually in decline. WWE isn't in any kind of imminent danger, but there are definitely red flags that need to be addressed before they spiral out of control. Every study I've seen of WWE's fanbase indicates that the exact opposite is true. Those studies are a few years old, though, so it's possible there's been a shift in recent years. If there was such a shift, I would expect it to be reflected in higher ad rates for Raw and Smackdown. To my knowledge, that hasn't happened.
  17. I think all the women were better in NXT, even if they were less experienced. There was more emphasis on storytelling and less on sloppy athletic spots.
  18. For my money, Miz vs. Dolph at Backlash blows any of the Charlotte/Sasha matches out of the water. Overall, I'd say that Charlotte in NXT was probably better than Miz at any point in his career, but current Miz is better than Charlotte on the main roster.
  19. TV rights fees provide more revenue than any other aspect of WWE's business. That's why ratings matter. Average attendance at North American events is down more than 10% from 2010. And this past month, they couldn't sell out a PPV in Chicago. So you probably shouldn't be hanging your hat on attendance if you're a WWE apologist.
  20. The only person I've ever heard refer to those matches by those terms is jdw. I believe he's a Real Madrid fan, so that's where he got it from.
  21. I thought I had lost my capacity to be shocked after the last two years, but I am flabbergasted that the Rock is being treated as a serious presidential candidate. I just can't buy into the notion of taking a Stone Cold Stunner being a qualification for elected office.
  22. The best part was Dave flipping out over the idea that Bayley had time to see Wonder Woman.
  23. I like how three of these are for the same guy.
  24. On the other hand, you have Sting becoming a career top guy simply by taking the world champion to a time limit draw. Bob Backlund is also arguably an example of the title making the wrestler.
  25. I was thinking Kerry as well. He had always been on the WWF's radar, and he was still an acceptable worker at that point. He almost certainly would have self-destructed even quicker as a result, but I'm thinking in terms of what the WWF likely would have done, not what would have been best for them with the benefit of hindsight.
