You pretty much have to accept that finishers in WWE have magical match-ending properties that other moves don't. The problem is that non-finisher moves have escalated so much in danger and impact while the finishers remain relatively tame. There's a bit of a disconnect when guys are taking All Japan-style head drops and apron bumps only for the match to end on a DDT.

I don't think you can kill Bayley any deader at this point.

I never thought I'd see the day when a Miz match would unironically receive "this is awesome" chants. Really good opening match, but that Jordan promo was so bad I thought it was an attempt to plant the seeds for a heel turn for a second.

Changed my top 3 selections for 1984, 2015, and 2016.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
NintendoLogic replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
https://twitter.com/Maffewgregg/status/910946069567148032 I'm actually not sure if this belongs in the TNA thread or the GFW one. Either way, it's hilariously bush league even by their standards. -
For me, it was Jinder Mahal before his current push. I thought he had a nice jumping high knee and double underhook suplex.

Don't get too excited. It looks like it's just a Smackdown house show. Here's the projected card: Booby Roode! Ricky Seamboat!

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4

A random question just popped in my head. Who are all the guys who wrestled both former Blade Runners in singles matches? I've got Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, HHH, Rick Rude, and Sid. A very select group, obviously. Anyone else? -
Yet more evidence for my argument that it's far easier to look good in a tag setting than in singles matches.

Other than not attacking and laying out Kairi after the match, I loved pretty much everything Baszler did in the finals. Kairi no-selling the arm work was disappointing, though.

Bret/Perfect from KOTR 93 placed #12 in the SC poll. And I might be the world's biggest fan of that match, so I have no problem with that. Rude/Warrior at Summerslam 89 and the Hogan/Slaughter Desert Storm Match at MSG are also high on my list of favorites. Pre-Savage/Steamboat, I'm a big fan of the Backlund/Patera Texas Death Match (not an actual Texas Death Match, that was the WWF term for a no-DQ match).

Even when wrestling was at its peak of mainstream popularity, Mike Tyson made more in a single fight than Steve Austin made in a year. Why should we give a crap about mainstream interest if plenty of companies are doing good business and plenty of wrestlers are making a good living?

Heel Dolph was the shits. He had the same problem as early 90s heel HBK: he was a big bumper and seller with virtually no offense. That's not as much of an issue as a face since he can spend most of the match selling.

I've heard three different origin stories for Test's ring name. There's the testosterone one, the mic check one, and one where the idea was you had to pass the test if you wanted to see the band. Who the hell knows. -
Your "So So Good" Top 100 Matches of All Time
NintendoLogic replied to elliott's topic in Pro Wrestling
KB8's post reminded me of something I think about periodically. How often do you guys watch your favorite matches? I generally only watch the matches at the top of my favorites list about once a year, if that. Part of that is an attempt to prevent the matches from seeming less special due to overexposure. If I'm really into a song, I have a tendency to listen to it repeatedly until I get sick of it, and I don't want that to happen with matches I like. Also, I'm all about the thrill of discovery and reevaluation, and there's basically zero chance of my opinion of 6/9/95 or Hart/Austin changing meaningfully. -
They had a good match on Smackdown sometime in 2008. I can't recall the exact date, though.

I guess Trump has entered the Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter phase of his presidency. In other news: If Juggalos fighting Nazis in the streets of DC isn't peak 2017, I don't know what is.

I haven't seen it online in years. It used to be on Youtube, but the guy who uploaded it (his account is the one with the barbed wire match IIRC) took it down for some reason.

He also apparently retroactively gave 6/3/94 ******, which kind of undermines his argument about wrestling being about time and place, but whatever.

That reminds me, Dave's been dropping some pretty interesting information on Twitter recently. It seems that the star rating system originally maxed out at four stars, but then Jim Cornette saw the Lawler/Funk no-DQ match. Also, Arn Anderson is apparently a big fan of Hirooki Goto.

He supposedly got torn a new one by Vince McMahon backstage for saying "title shot" instead of "title match," so who knows.
