  1. In the end, most of the major territories did themselves in through a combination of different factors. The pre 1986 WWF TV product wasn't really that inferior compared to a lot of places, like the AWA for example. Plus, the the quality of the Saturday TV wasn't a major factor in their success. What really mattered was WWF had the mainstream hype no other territory could match. Remember they were on MTV, and SNME debuted on NBC in May 1985. Hulk Hogan was on the cover of SI right after Mania. Still, it was a gradual process, and the South wasn't a much of a draw for them until the Austin years of the late 90s
  2. No, Vince would just go silent sometimes. More so on the MSG shows than the TV, and it was more an issue when he was young and relatively inexperienced
  3. No Dom DeNucci in those initial classes sucks, but he was likely tainted through association with Bruno and now the time has passed
  4. I think that looks like an interesting list and will probably include a lot of good stuff. Hopefully no riots due to the mythical Savage vs Taker match yet again failing to materialize Lol
  5. I think the belt on the right was worn by Pedro Morales in 70/71 when he returned to the WWWF and just before he defeated Koloff for the WWWF belt (Pedro came to the ring with the US title against Koloff I believe). The other was Rogers US belt that became the first WWWF title in 1963 after he lost the NWA belt to Thesz
  6. It's confusing, but as far as I know there wasn't a physical WWWF US title, and Bobo never defended it. He was just billed as US champ for years, and he was the Detroit US champ off and on for years at the same time
  7. Never in in WWWF/WWF though
  8. Warms my heart that Frankie Williams was a crowd favorite to the Hamburg faithful, always getting a small roar when he's introduced
  9. Man, I wonder if Iron Sheik had to go by Great Hussein Arab in WWF because Arion was the billed as the Iron Greek. I've always wondered why he used a different name there and was Sheik everywhere else
  10. And Stasiak vs Maivia from 2/11/78 is nice little short brawl
  11. Dear God, I'm the same age as Stan Stasiak in early 1978

Uh, did Riccochet's debut get edited out of tonight's show?

  14. More gold on this show: Frank Williams signing an autograph for a fan before his match
  15. BOB BACKLUND VS BARON SCICLUNA!!! (1/28/78) Ok, Titans is coming back. Auditions to replace Parv start tomorrow at 5pm sharp
  16. Mr. Fuji's Kamikaze clothesline was badass
  17. Speaking of bad hair/toupee, what the fuck is going on with Rocca?
  18. Yeah, that's probably it For those interested in such things, 11/12/77 features a very early appearance of the legendary jobber team Johnny Rodz and Jose Estrada (the future Medicos in Puerto Rico). Wrestlingdata actually doesn't have an earlier date for them teaming together
  19. Does anyone know what Rocca always calls Vince? Sounds like he is saying "General"
  20. Johnny Rodz vs Frank Williams from 3/20/76 is like some kind of jobber dream match
  21. Episode 26 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-26 September 4, 1982 ((WCCW 37) JAY SALDI LIVES!!! (And Johnny Sorrow is pissed off) Last week we pretty much said goodbye to everyone's favorite back-up Tight End, but he's back, and he's got a lot to say about wrestlers from other territories and internationally! Meet Jumbo "Tsnuka", Bob "Blacklund", and "Rodney" Piper, some of the biggest stars in the world! Also on the show... -Bugsy "Mr. USA" (???) McGraw and a returning David Von Erich -Good Ol' Al bringing his usual ** game (or at least Kelly thinks so) -Perhaps the worst wrestling music video ever: "The Many Faces of the Great Kabuki" -A hopelessly mundane main event between King Kong Bundy/Bill Irwin and Brian Adidas/Sal Alavarez World Cast: Our hosts have been reviewing several decades old mediocre wrestling since 2013! *Be sure to keep the pod playing after the closing theme for a little bonus*
  22. Glad to see people enjoying the All Star drop. As a long time fan of this era, I never thought I would see the day when PWO would go gaga over 70s WWWF. And this is just the "B" show stuff!
  23. Yeah, loved that main event tag from the lone 75 show. I watched three episodes yesterday, and I forgot how good some of the matches on the TV could be. Since they had less time to work with, most of the non-squash matches are often worked at a much faster pace than a lot of long, plodding undercard matches from MSG and the Spectrum from the same time featuring the same talent. Even a bout between two guys lost to time like Frank Monte and Francisco Flores from the same 75 show is worthwhile. Rodz vs SD Jones from 11/4/78 is also good
  24. I'm not sure how much of it is on this footage. The turn angle happened on Championship Wrestling, although they may have replayed it on All Star. Not sure how many of the awesome promos are here either. All the big matches happened at MSG, Spectrum and Shea of course
