[1994-01-17-WWF-MSG, NY] 1-2-3 Kid & Marty Jannetty vs The Quebecers
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
I agree with Loss that the Jannetty FIP segment had about reached its limit but this was still a fantastic match. All of the hope spots were excellent and the heat that the Quebecer's generated was impressive. Kid got obilterated in two moves which I agree was a faulty decision but at least they were fairly devastating ones. All in all though a fun and exciting house show tag. -
Really great Corny promo. The angle is good too.

This had me laughing my ass off. He alluded to bestiality with a mythical creature and preached atheism. This is a winner.

[1994-01-11-WWF-Florence, SC] Bret & Owen Hart vs Rick & Scott Steiner
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
What a terrific match! However, fuck you Monsoon! You babbling idiot, quit shitting on the talent. Of course, he did that his whole time on the broadcast team anyways. The match was awesome though. Owen stood out for me in this match. He can go with the Steiner's style as Loss points out. The structure is bizarre but that doesn't matter in this because as mentioned already the exchanges and sequences were so fucking good. I loved Scott choosing to do the screwdriver. I just can't go over the fact how good Owen was in this. The double count-out was frustrating but not a buzzkill. This is definitely the best Steiner's dream tag I've seen so far. -
Kawada and Fuchi know tag team wrestling. The elimination of Kobashi following the German suplex goes right into the efforts of trying to keep Misawa a one man team and beat him. They work on Misawa's chest and sternum which he sells brilliantly. Kobashi attempts to get back into the match but Kawada makes sure he doesn't with a kick to the floor. Kobashi does get back in but has to deal with Fuchi and several back drop suplexes. Kobashi does get the tag to Misawa who takes out both Fuchi and Kawada. Kobashi gets the win with the top rope leg drop. This is a big win for Kobashi and a hell of a tag performance from Kawada and Fuchi.

[1994-01-10-WWF-Raw] 1-2-3 Kid & Marty Jannetty vs The Quebecers
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
The commercial break nullified finish is my only problem with this. I always have this thing where if the faces get a nullified finish that means they won't get the victory in the end. Anyways, this was a lot of fun with the Quebecers getting outsmarted and not being able to keep up with the speed of Jannetty and Kid. Kid's top rope somersault to the floor was awesome. Kid's FIP segment was great with Pierre destroying him with various splashes and one monster top rope assisted somersault. They tried the latter move again but Jannetty broke it up and stirred Kid so he could make the tag. Jannetty got in and cleaned house and they get a quick win and celebrate with Savage and in the crowd. This was pretty great and had the plus of a feel good moment. -
I'm admittedly not a big fan of the synchronized stuff but this was still a tremendously great match. Ozaki was terrific throughout the entire match cheering her teammates on the apron and getting in an awesome argument with Chigusa. Devil's vicious powerbombs on Ozaki were fucking sweet. The beatings Plum, Cutie, and Ozaki take are intense as hell and really create a lot of sympathy. This match ruled.

This was a great, great interview. It felt very real but I do think Gene was distracting at times.

[1994-01-11-WWF-Florence, SC] 1-2-3 Kid & Marty Jannetty vs The Headshrinkers
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
Rikishi could work back in the day. Jannetty is the FIP in this match and gets killed with a clothesline to start off the beat down that ensues. I can't forget the early match exchanges though with Kid's awesome dropkick and over the top rope splash sequence. Back to Jannetty taking a beating. He gets his back worked on some and takes some nasty back breakers. Kid keeps distracting Bill Alfonso and causing Marty to get mugged in the corner. Eventually Jannetty gets the tag and all hell breaks loose. Kid is taking out both Headshrinkers until fucking Afa comes in the ring and has the most impressive manager exchange ever landing a tremendous Samoan drop. Alfonso had his head up his ass somewhere and didn't see it. The Headshrinkers get the win but a goofy ass looking Mike Chioda (I believe) shows up and lets The Fonze know what's up. Gorilla berates Alfonso too. Alfonso reverses the decision and Jannetty and the Kid retain their belts. This was a pretty fun match with Afa's interference being the highlight.- 17 replies

[1994-01-14-WWF-San Jose, CA] Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon (Ladder)
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
The commentary was ridiculous but this was another great Shawn-Razor ladder match. I liked the Razor's Edge tease on the floor and it also led to Shawn working on Razor's back for a while. Shawn took his usual bumps in a ladder match but they're still great ones and don't seem to be as insane and dangerous as guys like the Hardy's would take. The finish is really good and a cool big bump to take Shawn out. The Mania match is better but this is a nice gem. -
This was a tremendous match. Scott and Hase had excellent chemistry. The screwdriver was nuts and Hase sold it like he was near death. Scott came across HUGE to the Japanese. Hase's selling was superb throughout. Rick was perfectly fine in this. Muto did his usual stuff and the crowd loved it including the running Dome clothesline. The pace and structure was all there and this ruled because of it.

[1994-01-04-NJPW-Battlefield] Antonio Inoki vs Genichiro Tenryu
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
This was pretty damn good of what was shown. It was cool to see Tenryu get the win over someone as huge as Inoki. The post-match was great with the NJ guys wearing jackets or outfits of some kind with their names on the back channeling my high school soccer team. Hase slapping Inoki was tremendous too. Those WAR outfits looked awesome.- 15 replies

[1994-01-04-NJPW-Battlefield] Hulk Hogan vs Tatsumi Fujinami
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
My God Hogan was thin during this period. It's amazing really. I noticed the elbows he threw in the corner on Fujinami were incredibly stiff. I never recall Hogan's offense being stiff before now. It was amusing to watch Hogan do his signature posing while "Real American" plays to a Japanese audience. They loved it though.- 8 replies

I like this a good bit. The past hasn't vanished like it does today and Luger has to fight his way into the Rumble. I wish this was done all the time nowadays but my wish probably won't ever be granted.

I enjoyed this. It was cool to see Samurai do a FIP like segment. Tenryu's offense looked great as always. I loved when Muto got the tag and had a nice flurry of offense. His showdowns with Tenryu were awesome as well. This could have definitely been better but it worked out fine.

[1994-01-01-WCW-Saturday Night] Sting vs Steve Austin
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in January 1994
This was very good. Austin is definitely good at this point. It was paced very well and I enjoyed Austin's arm work a good bit and Sting sold it well. The finish annoyed me but the post-match promo made up for it. Austin was hilarious.- 11 replies

I'm the brother who attended the Raw show in Chattanooga. I'll give a rundown of the show: Crowd was much better in Chatt than what Dylan texted me from Charleston. I'd guess probably close to 5,500. They had the same entrance set as the one in Charleston did and it really improved the atmosphere I thought. The opener was R-Truth and "surprise" partner Santino vs. The Colons. This was actually tremendous. The crowd was molten for Truth and Santino. Primo "attacked" Little Jimmy which cut the fuse on Truth who went after him. Primo was awesome in this bumping and taking Truth and Santino's offense to another level. Santino can be an excellent FIP and it really showed in this match. There were some brilliant and innovative hope spots and my two favorites being Santino missing a double clothesline and later diving for Truth's hand but didn't quite jump far enough and took a bump right on his face. During this stretch, the Cobra was taken from Santino and actually used on him throughout the FIP segment by the Colons. He had already done the Cobra after a brief hot tag following a short Truth FIP segment. It was really great because it basically eliminated his signature move from the match. The hot tag was really good here with the Colons bumping perfectly for Truth's unorthodox offense. The finishing run was really great too with Santino giving Epico the Cobra and Primo executing a beautiful dropkick followed by a hilarious look of arrogance only to get hit with the Lie Detector for the Truth/Santino win. My only beef with this is that Santino still did the Cobra without the actual Cobra because a good bit of the match was worked around preventing that move. It's a minor complaint though because everything else was so well put together. Great match. Jack Swagger cut a pre-taped promo on an upcoming match with Brodus Clay on the show. JTG and Tyson Kidd came out for a singles match but Eve showed up and announced that she just got off the phone with Ace and the match had been changed to a handicap match with Lord Tensai as their opponent. Almost immediately fans got out of their seats for a bathroom break and ice cream. I mean they shat all over Tensai. Part of the problem I think is his squashes are too long. If you watch a Ryback squash, it last about a minute and half tops. Tensai squashes take up valuable air time with five minute matches. I think that's a huge reason why he's not so over with the crowd, then you include his past as Prince Albert and an obvious cartoonish gimmick and it really doesn't present itself very well. Moving on to the match. It was okay for the first couple of minutes with Tensai just manhandling JTG and Tyson. It actually got interesting once Tensai disposed of JTG to the floor and was left with Tyson. It became a nice little competitive squash and Tyson looked really good delivering quick strikes and kicks. He even kicked out of the black hole slam. Tensai finished him with the claw/pin and the crowd came back with their dinner and bladders empty. The FCW wrestler of the day was Husky Harris who is sporting a new look. He has improved slightly albeit still not good at all. He went by Bray Wyatt and cut a bizarre promo with a thick dixie accent. He wrestled Ryder who carried him to an overall decent match. Husky's shittiness was much more subtle here and didn't do a lot to damage the match but just has very little going for him at all. Ryder won with the Rough Ryder. Brodus and Swagger was next. Brodus came out with Cameron, Naomi, and Hornswoggle. They were way over. Swagger came out and fucked around with some fans in the front row. Brodus touched his hair so he went to the floor to a security woman and had her check for damages. She took out her flashlight and actually checked. That was pretty great. Brodus fucked Jack's hair up and Jack got mad. Brodus sells weird and it bothers me. It's hard to take him seriously. He ran through Swagger after a brief FIP segment. Brodus, Cameron, Naomi, and Hornswoggle danced with little kids in the ring afterwards. This was a fun match and Swagger was pretty entertaining as the heel. Eve faced Kelly after an intermission. This was pretty much a terrible match. Eve is fucking God awful. I did like one spot where she did her booty shake and Kelly kicked her into the corner. Eve won with a terrible move that looked pretty ineffective. This was kind of fun though because the crowd was into it. Dolph came out and cut a promo about how he's been left to dwindle in the mid-card and should be the face of the company. He says he's got a new insurance policy that will be with him wherever he goes to ensure he becomes the face of the WWE. His insurance policy is Mason Ryan. LOL and WTF? Anyways Dolph brags about Ryan for a second then Cena's music hits and holy shit he got the loudest pop. The crowd was into this segment more than any other. We still got the typical "LET'S GO CENA" - "CENA SUCKS" but there was massive support for him here. This is obviously due to the high number of kids that attend house shows. From the first exchange Cena sold the arm that was wrapped up from the Lesnar and Ace attacks. The whole story of the match was Cena's attempts at the AA but could never succeed because he only had the use of one arm. Every time he tried he lifted Dolph with his good arm only. Cena was terrific in this with his selling and one armed offense. Mason Ryan got involved four or five times which hurt the match a little bit but the crowd was way too fucking into this for it to be a significant factor. Cena pulled out all the stops and managed to succeed with the AA in the end for the win. I wish Dolph had worked on the arm a little more as well but I like the story of the match and Cena had a great performance. The main event was Punk-Jericho for the belt. Punk's pop wasn't any where near the levels of Cena but that is to be expected at a house show. Punk led a "CM PUNK" chant and Jericho tried to start a "BEST IN THE WORLD" chant for himself. The crowd booed it and Jericho got on the mic and bitched. Punk left the ring and jumped into the crowd and sat in the front row and mocked Jericho. That was pretty funny. The match got under way and was okay for a few minutes until Jericho had to try and display athleticism that he no longer has. They did the corner spot where Punk catches Jericho in an attempt for the GTS but Jericho botched it and Punk had to correct it. Then Jericho got his control segment and that was fucking awful. He was terrible mistiming shit and standing around not knowing what to do next at times it seemed. What a fucking crock a shit he was tonight. Punk got his comeback and got a pretty good near fall after the Savage elbow. The finishing run was actually great and Jericho applied the walls after he had been targeting Punk's back some earlier in the match. Punk reversed it into a small package for a great near fall. Jericho nailed a sloppy codebreaker but Punk kicked out. Eventually Punk nailed the GTS for the win and celebrated with the crowd afterwards. Punk tried his best here and made it a decent affair but Jericho was the worst I've seen him in a while and maybe ever. Overall, very entertaining show with one very good match and one tremendous tag opener. I enjoyed it a good bit and had a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll be making it back to the Roundhouse for another card probably around Christmas time.

Yes, my father was hilarious throughout. He started yelling and cheering for Cena to low blow Brock and fight back after the initial exchange. When Brock attacked a ref, dad screamed and started saying that Brock has to be fined $500,000 and permanently suspended. I had to remind him that Ace agreed to not punish Brock for stuff like that. He totally went nuts through the entire thing. It was entertaining as hell.

Tropes in pro-wrestling that you loathe
Exposer replied to Mr Wrestling X's topic in Megathread archive
That's exactly the issue. They hate that wrestling still "tries" to preach that it is all real. With movies and television everyone is told it's fake. That really bothers a lot of people and I understand that. I just tell them that ship sailed years ago and I watch wrestling to the closest explanation they can understand. And that explanation is I tell them I watch wrestling like a movie critic watches movies. I feel that's a fair explanation. -
[1994-02-20-WCW-Superbrawl IV] Arn Anderson vs Steven Regal
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in February 1994
I dug the Taylor bout a lot. I though it was worked a lot like the Jimmy Garvn/Kevin Von Erich bouts with Regal as Garvin and Taylor as Kevin. I've only seen bits and pieces of the World Class set but that is an interesting comparison. I need to check those matches out.- 29 replies
