  1. Yup, that's right. Personally urgent situation on my end and we stopped and re-started later. I think this might be my favorite episode. Fantastic, really looking forward to it. Maybe open up a related thread after people have had the chance to listen to it for a bit where you post the list, Loss's, and others can chime in with theirs to discuss?
  2. Just to confirm, part 1 is ~30 minutes and part 2 is ~2.5 hours? Just want to confirm I've got everything properly loaded. Plan on listening to this on a 20 mile run on Saturday and don't want to find out I didn't load the right files.
  3. 2+ years later I'm curious how the thinking in this discussion has evolved. Really fascinating to read through this, particularly some of the thoughts on peak vs. longevity (I'm in camp with those who don't hold the Mets years against Willie Mays) joshi, lucha and Tenryu (who's stock seems to have permanently risen). In the wake of the AJ 80s footage and now the 80s lucha set, what do folks think is different at this point in time?
  4. There are Bam Bam matches I enjoy watching today though.
  5. Wasn't Hogan/Warrior II the original plan for 7? I thought the story was Hogan planned on getting his win back the following year but plans changed when Warrior was cold and the war opened up that storyline.

  7. That is incredibly high praise. I'll have to check this out.

  9. Richard Lee promo with the Moondogs teasing a barbed wire cage match. Doug Gilbert is out, mentioning Eddie wrestling Terry Funk for a shot at Lawler's title. Moondogs attack Doug with barbed wire and Lawler is eventually out for the save. Lawler with a good promo setting up the MSC match. This was so hot early in the year, but I'm not sure how it won feud of the year in the Observer.
  10. Warrior is out of Survivor Series, Savage teases the Perfect tag team partner and then spells it out. Then we cut to Savage & Perfect interviewing as a team. Perfect looks to be having fun. Fortunately we get the full angle later on.
  11. Rude eying Madusa on the way to the ring is character dedication. Really fun, too short match. Good bumping and selling by Rude, including effectively working a bearhug spot. The highlight, as noted above, was Jake on commentary. Just incredible. Its just one match, but based on this, he'd have been an all time great color man. Can't close without a local promo as they push Sting vs. Jake in a cage at the Omni on Thanksgiving. ***
  12. Jake promo putting over the DDT as the best hold in wrestling today. Terrific.
  13. Pillman before facing Sting in the King of Cable tourney. Dangerously here looks like Pillman's manager but I don't recall that going anywhere. Pillman has a Porsche, new house on the hills and harem of beautiful women. Zenk is not friends with the mic.
  14. Sullivan with a unique entrance. Lee charges and Sullivan immediately throws fire and then spikes the hell out of him. Then Nightstalker and someone else join in for a ridiculously bloody and violent angle. Remind me everything Cornette criticized ECW for? This was violent, intense and awesome. Lee looks like a crime scene as they finally clear out when the RNR, Tim Horner & Dixie Dynamite arrive. Dutch says "we ain't gonna see any of this shit on tv." Awesome. Bob Armstrong bans Sullivan from SMW for the rest of his life afterwards. Best thing in SMW all year, by far.
  15. Promo about the RNRs proposing a four faces of fear series to Bob Armstrong -- Texas Death Match, Falls Count Anywhere, Barbed Wire Cage & Smoky Mountain Street Fight for the Thanksgiving Thunder series -- titles on the line every night. As simple as it gets and completely effective.
  16. Clips of Lawler vs. Todd Champion w/ Jarrett as ref. Champion feels incredibly bush league. Prentice slips a chain to Champion, which Jarrett sees but has to pretend not to. Lawler wins on a roll up. Then a Richard Lee promo on Eddie & Doug Gilbert, somewhere out in the woods where the Moondogs are destroying a ransacked house. Almost expect to see dogs running around somewhere. The Todd Champion stuff is awful, the guy has zero charisma and will not work where people have access to other wrestling. Even if it wasn't going to drive business, the Lee promo with the Moondogs was at least fun.
  17. I didn't dig the music selection here. Felt too much like WCW. Great clips of Hart walking down the aisle, in the ring, old photos and some some recreated b&w shots from Stu's basement.
  18. FLIK's comments above about Bull are why I'm looking forward to eventually grabbing '90 & '91 -- I've enjoyed Bull more than any other joshi worker on here. She was great dominating Kyoko, and trading with Aja is always great. She also sold really well for Kyoko after the Kong piledriver. It seemed like the announcing was much more subdued here and in the previous match than is typical for AJW. Not sure what that's about. Really surprised to see Kyoko take the fall given the stars here. ***1/2
  19. Great outfits for Yamada & Hasegawa. Yamada played the role of the stiff brute pretty well. Not much new to add here -- I had a tough time getting invested in this as it felt like it was going really long given how Toyota & Yamada were pacing themselves. Even if they weren't all all well done, the near falls and big spots down the stretch were exciting and after the set up felt like they were coming nonstop. Yamada with some great selling on the floor late, even if it looked like she just truly winded. On the other hand, I wasn't digging Malenko's selling very much, as she would go down like a giant but pop up like its nothing for the next spot. Also doesn't exactly have the most graceful plancha. Good story here, but took way too long telling it. The JWP tag in December told a similar, better story with superior work and finish. ***1/4
  20. Hayes & Paul E say Eaton will take out Erik Watts. Makes you appreciate Curtis Axel.
  21. Jake says he's the reptile, not what's in the bag. Still aiming for Sting. Great promo. Do we have any sense of long term booking for Jake if he didn't flame out here?
  22. We get Watts' feelings on leadership, competition, intimidation, career. Then clip of him in the ring. Very different from the promos introducing Crush, but just as awful in their own special way.
  23. Celebrating 20 years on TBS. They reveal the bracket, which looks great other than Tony Atlas. Sting's promo was terrible.
  24. Follow up to attack last week. Armstrong said every time they meet its now for the titles. Good progression here week to week. They again talk about the Midnight Express, which seems like overkill. Let's hype the current act instead.
  25. Ultra local promo from Lawler/Jarrett promoting a couple appearances. Then clips of 6 man from MSC. We get a lot of weapons spots, Lawler & Gilbert throwing fire, more weapons before Jarrett pins the masked man, who's unmasked as Mike Miller. This all reads better than it watches, as it looks good but man is the town dead for this by now.
