  1. Lots of stalling early. Gilbert juices after a piledriver and they start brawling outside with chairs. Gilbert does big color for a pretty small and quiet crowd. Brawl up into the stands is cool. Gilbert uses crutch to work over Lawler. No finish airs. Would've obviously preferred a complete MSC match from these 2 but we'll have to take what's available for the record. **1/4
  2. Cactus eats a backdrop on floor. Hayes is noticeably better than most color on WCW this year, Ventura included. Double countout sets up the FCA match. Okay but nothing special. **1/2
  3. Warrior narrating a feud with the clips interspersed is something. Great production though. Then its Savage's turn to speak and its more insanity.
  4. Yoshida takes a page out of Toyota's book with a flurry of early dropkicks before working the knee to keep her opponent grounded, and she continues working this smart strategy. As Flik points out, Toyota's not about to sell that the whole way through but her offense is awesome enough to overcome that a lot of the time. She had a *great* kick off of Yoshida into an armbreaker. The bump she took off of the missed dropkick into the ropes was just sick. Yoshida plancha. After Toyota's top rope Asai moonsault and Ocean Suplex are only good for a near fall, Yoshida capitalizes on a missed moonsault with la magistral for a hot near fall. After a strong finishing stretch Toyota finishes with another Ocean Suplex. Too bad I didn't know the backstory about the tournament before watching this but it was still really good. No Joshi on this set has been even remotely disappointing. ***3/4
  5. Diana's promos would come a long way by 1996. The crowd reaction for DBS is what a home court advantage is all about, and is responsible for this being such an indelible moment. Kudos to Bret for working as a somewhat subtle heel here and giving the crowd what they want rather than sticking to his babyface routine. His offense was so crisp and smooth and absolutely held this thing together. You can almost pinpoint when Hart starts working timeouts into the match to keep DBS clued in as to where they're going next. Really sloppy attempt by a shot Davey to throw Bret over the top, who somehow saves it by getting himself tangled in ropes. Starting with the running powerslam the heat picks up as we get near falls off that and a superplex, while Bret worked a creative spot to lock in the Sharpshooter after a double clothesline before the great finish. This was a very good match and an all time performance by Bret given what he was working with, but it didn't hold up at all for me as any kind of classic or MOTYC, even for the company. ***3/4
  6. I absolutely loved this. Savage sold like a champion early on here and even worked as a subtle heel to establish that dynamic, using the tights to throw Warrior into the turnbuckle for a transition and then dumping him to the floor. Great sequences with Warrior no selling one axehandle, going down from the second and catching him on the third with a backbreaker. Savage then sells and Warrior works over his back for a nice little bit. Flair & Perfect start doing their thing here, interfering against Savage and then Warrior, resulting in a great near fall after a Savage piledriver and elbow. Savage eventually realizes what's going on and jumps from the top to the floor on Flair, who nails his knee with a chair which results in a count out and sets up the title change at the next TV tapings. Warrior teases a belt shot but hands it to Savage and they celebrate together while Savage sells knee. I need to rewatch the Mania match but initially I didn't think this was any poorer. Warrior gassed just as early and more visibly than DBS later that night and Savage still carried the inferior worker to a superior match. When examining Savage's record as a worker, these matches should be exhibit A in demonstrating his ability to carry someone. ****1/4
  7. Can't wait. B/w what sounds like excessive Dandy and undoubtedly a healthy serving of Santo & Casas, everyone should be all over this.
  8. At least buy me dinner before you do me like that. Might as well have just taken the money right out of my pocket.

    Current WWE

Great, now I actually have to watch most of it. THANKS DUDE.
  10. Second the Austin pick and also throw out a call for MiSu.
  11. Am I the only one who thought Naito/Suzuki on Day 4 was better than Ishii/Shibata? I love Ishii and generally like Shibata, but that just felt like an excuse to concuss and beat the crap out of each other for 15 minutes. My thoughts on whether that's a good idea or not aside, I'm able to enjoy it do a certain extent when done well, which it was here. But Suzuki put on a clinic in carrying a thus far unimpressive Naito to his best match since last year's title challenge vs. Okada. If Suzuki could teach everyone the importance of timing and pacing, the world would be a better place.
  12. That'd be great. Someone who watches as much as you do really deserves to enjoy the best of what's being put out right now.
  13. Boricua, what a fantastic job. Really appreciate the time and effort you spent laying all of this out. We should be so fortunate to have someone do that for other places!
  14. Jake doesn't want a piece of the world, he wants the whole world. Great heel promo.
  15. Fuller throws great punches and Morton takes a great beating as always. Both teams take out the ref and it’s a double DQ.
  16. Signing for the no time limit match with Cornette's racket "omitted" from the ring, with Mama Cornette's money on the line. Bring on the RNR.
  17. Gilbert promo talking about who's challenged him for Unified world title. Mentions DWB winning the SMW title, and challenges him to come to Memphis.
  18. Looks like a good brawl from MSC before they're split up. Its mentioned that Moondogs vs. Lawler/Jarrett ended after a year, but we never really saw any climax. Cool music video of Rich clips going back to the Idol feud, setting up a cage match with Dundee.
  19. Awesome, awesome promo by Jimmy about Jeffrey Jarrett challenging Bret Hart. We were absolutely deprived by him not given the opportunity to carry some big feuds on a national level. This makes you want to pop in Memphis set. Says Lawler & Jarrett, just like Memphis, are built on a bluff.
  20. Great chain wrestling and counters early. Watching Tamura do his thing here even a novice can sense you're seeing a top shelf performer in this style. Tamura with a great submission I've never seen wrapping Anjoh's calf around his own leg. They tell a good story with Tamura constantly working for submissions while Anjoh is looking for the knockout. This definitely went too long though and would rate much higher as a 15-20 minute match. There still hasn't been a single RINGS/UWFI/PWFG match on the set I haven't enjoyed. ***1/2
  21. Solid groundwork and submissions early, and Dragon throwing a neat flurry of kicks. Dragon also did his best Santo impersonation with the plancha through the ropes at the post. Nothing at all wrong with this, but as noted above it didn't rise to the level of anything great. But really, how bad is Dragon vs. Casas ever going to be? ***1/4
  22. Nastys hit Savage with the helmet while Warrior goes after Hart, where Flair & Perfect destroy him. Effective in building intrigue around Flair's role at SS.
  23. Bob talks about a bounty that was placed on on Brian Lee, who can't talk but doesn't give as bad a promo as I expected. Corny's mom is also putting up $10K for the Bodies to beat Fantastics. Pritchard is great while Lane still comes across like some kind of parody. The Fantastics belong as far from a mic as Brian Lee.
  24. JT Southern looks like one of the Nelson boys. Clips of Tommy Rich turning heel on Ricky Morton with a chain letting the Gilberts beat the RNR. Then Tommy Rich walks out on Dundee during a tag team battle royal. Promo from Dundee, then Rich from ATL talking about winners and joining the Memphis Mafia. Tommy Rich is good at this whole "wrestler on TV" thing.
  25. Bruce delivers a third rate heel Owen promo talking about Bret's big head and how Davey Boy will win at SummerSlam, all while wearing a DBS shirt. Fortunately they picked the right Hart brother for a heel run when the time came.
