[1992-08-01-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett vs The Moondogs
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in August 1992
Jarrett ducks and one dog eats a shot from a road sign allowing Jarrett/Lawler to win the titles and Eddie Marlin to shave Richard Lee's head. Lee out with a toupee under a hat w/ Moondogs for promo. A voodoo lady gave him his hair back. Says Fifi, the dogs' sister, is coming to town. -
Really looking forward to this. When I first got into the sheets and tape trading I was a *huge* Luger mark. I had someone put together this awesome Luger comp with 4 hours of his best stuff on a single tape and for some reason this kind didn't charge any more than for the standard tapes he had already compiled. Wore that one out pretty quickly.

I probably haven't watched the character in 20+ years, but when I was a kid I thought Akeem was the greatest and funniest I ever saw hit a wrestling ring.

Fantasy Booking the Road to WrestleMania 30
WingedEagle replied to TravJ1979's topic in Armchair Booking
Wow. -
I remember this angle so vividly. It'd been 6 months since the Sting angle started at Fall Brawl and given how things were hotshotted back then, you thought the longest they could hold out on the Hogan match was Starrcade, the '96 version. That they kept things on a low flame for so long until popping it here and still saving the match for December was really something special.

Were the Death of the Territories in the 80s Inevitable?
WingedEagle replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
Without being too simplistic, just look at WCW. The booking, creative and in-ring became so awful that they quickly went from selling out Domes for TV to doing ECW numbers on PPV. I can't recall the details on why various places lost it without looking it up, but commonly a combo of poor booking, stars leaving and a superior product being spelling the end. The weight of each can vary in a given situation, but it doesn't happen while the territory is on fire that fans just stop showing up after a hot show. -

When did the Buddy SF incident occur? -
Couldn't agree more, he sounded perfectly lucid and just generally thrilled with where his life is at. I don't know where the payday for DDP eventually is, and I don't care. What he's done is remarkable and he deserves all the praise in the world.

Who wants to watch wrestling in a window on a laptop screen? Just viewing stuff on Youtube takes any of the fun away from me. If I ever put aside any time to watch anything, I want to lie back and watch it in proper quality on a proper television. I generally feel the exact same way. I've got a couple long wrestling playlists on Youtube but never really make it there as I'd rather pop in a DVD and watch on the big screen. It really loses something for me and is basically only an option if I'm not home and have time to kill somewhere.

[1997-02-09-NJPW] Jushin Liger vs Shinjiro Otani
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Wow, talk about bold. Superior to Liger/Samurai in '92? -
That sounds pretty familiar as I definitely remember him being sidelined with a neck injury for longer than what it initially sounded like. And then he really never did anything in WCW, likely due to his condition.

Matches like this one are why I'm rigidly going back through the yearbooks. I've seen all of these classics but am really looking forward to rewatching them in context after viewing just about everything along the way.

Couldn't agree more, this is the period where I literally remember watching things week to week and remember this more than I do what may have happened in 2008 or '09, for example. I'd be further along in '92 but this whole wife thing really is a drag on nights & weekends. Apparently she gets a vote on how we spend our time every now and then.

Oz is probably one of the handful of stars I'm most looking forward to seeing on later comps as I absolutely can't get enough of her early/mid 90s work. I know where most of the joshi love in that period went, and not without good reason, but she always stood out.

For a parody angle, they got quite a lot out of the BWO and I honestly thought they could've gone further with it. After including Stevie in the triangle match at Barely Legal it kind of fell off the map even though it seemed to have more steam behind it.

Always look forward to seeing you work your way through the yearbooks. Definitely gives me something to look forward to when I eventually catch up. Curious to see your thoughts on a number of matches this year as we're now getting to the point where I've seen much of the high end stuff at some point or another whereas earlier in the decade I was basically limited to US tv.

Wow, thanks for compiling all of that. Looking forward to catching up on some things I've missed there.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Top secret double bonus points on that one. I loathe myself just playing it out. -
Weird, I'm getting a 404.

Thanks! EDIT: That link also seems down right now. Quick blip or something off?

I woke up this morning and along with a dozen or so work emails had this set listing arrive in my inbox. GOOD TIMES! Can't wait to go through the listing in depth today.
