I assume Joe is dropping the title to Swerve this month but hope there are big, big plans for him thereafter. He's very much righted the ship of the title and establishing a serious, important tone for the show overall by virtue of his positioning and I'd hate to see that just disappear. At worst he could be used like an AEW Brock who's this incredible obstacle for anyone in a big setting, but his promos allow room for so much more.

Between the White/Gunn match/angle/nonsense that never ended and Willow/Mone running a pointless promo with their back to essentially a hometown crowd for both, someone roofied the last half hour of Dynamite.

Was Santo a mystery partner here or teasing whether he'd work rudo/tecnico before joining the fray?

[1996-11-16-FMW-Scramble Survivor] Taka Michinoku vs Hayabusa
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
Loved this! Taka slid right into Hayabusa's house style here mixing the flying and brawling while both hit just about everything flawlessly. Sleeze's comments about selling are more than fair although I don't think the leg work was so extensive as to be unforgivable that it didn't carry through the rest of the way. Someone said about Dandy/Black Warrior on this disc that you had to view it through a certain perspective to really appreciate it. I think that's a great point even if I'm not sure I agree -- but when I watch Hayabusa vs. Taka I want to see them go all out, try a bunch of ridiculous spots and hopefully hit more than they miss. I don't want them to tell a story on the mat. It just so happens that on this night they not only hit just about every spot but chained them together in a cohesive fashion and built a really great match in the process. ****- 7 replies

Did I miss a non-televised angle where Rock turned back babyface?

AEW TV - 3/13 - 3/16 - Big Bu Dollar Signs Ine Dollar Signs
WingedEagle replied to Timbo Slice's topic in AEW
I wouldn't press the panic button for a long time. They're essentially rebuilding with a lot of new faces on top and shouldn't overreact to anything. But I still find this number disappointing. -
AEW TV - 3/13 - 3/16 - Big Bu Dollar Signs Ine Dollar Signs
WingedEagle replied to Timbo Slice's topic in AEW
Super disappointing rating at first glance. Yes, a big NBA night but this show had been hyped for weeks and presumably a sizeable audience knew what to expect. https://x.com/wrestlenomics/status/1768393297083445342?s=20 -
I'd have to think long and hard about how high to rank someone so young, but would likely end up going irrationally high on someone who's only turning 31 in a couple weeks. We're now at at over half a decade where he's arguably the best wrestler in the entire world. Top 10 sounds like something I'd potentially regret. But 20? 30? It'd seem silly to put him any lower given everything he's already done. EDIT: Ha! Just realized I expressed the same thought 6 months back. Certainly no less conviction today.

*All* of this. Blind ignorance here is almost nearly impossible to fathom and I'm comfortable saying impossible given some of Kelly's activity online in recent years. There's only so far you can bend trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt before you end up looking beyond silly. Some things are just simple.

I'd opt for Tsuji, but don't know and don't think it really matters. Given the state of the roster and losses due to aging and contracts, I think its imperative that they present something fresh sooner rather than later.

That anniversary show was at best a big nothing and at worst depressing. They need to find some kind of hook ASAP. So far it doesn't look like rocket strapping any of the kids is even under consideration so I'm not sure what the plan is, but House of Torture up and down the card is not going to cut it.

WWE TV - 03/04 - 03/09 Dom vs GUNTHER is my type of bullshit
WingedEagle replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
At the start of Gunther/Dom, Michael Cole congratulated Sting on his career and retirement while Pat McAfee said Sting had an epic match last night. Hell has truly frozen over. -
I'm clinging to the belief that Athena wasn't brought up after the Billie Starkz business because they want to time it to program her with Mercedes. Whether for Wembley or some other big show, that should be *the* women's match this company builds to (until Jamie Hayter is back in the picture).

Roman bringing in the CMLL crew as his new henchmen would be quite special.

[1991-09-28-WWF-Superstars] Ric Flair and Roddy Piper
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in September 1991
Absolutely classic angle that I vividly remember watching as a child. Its still amazing to look back and think that they never delivered a major money match for Flair with either Hogan or Piper despite the angles and promos at the time.- 10 replies

Also Jimmy vs. Jey. Perhaps Gunther gets Gable, Sami or ideally a returning Sheamus.

Reed himself claims he missed the show because his wife gave birth. And SRS reports he was scheduled to challenge Rollins today before the latter got hurt. Can certainly doubt the man himself and the reporter, but it doesn't sound like they did him dirty.

I'll probably stick around through the G1 in case Tsuji, Umino and Uemura are rocket strapped and deliver the goods, but between the defections and booking decisions its getting harder and harder to justify an investment in World. Especially when they stripped down the archives with the recent relaunch.

Revisited this as I'm on a 1991 kick and it was just terrific. Hughes bumping and throwing dropkicks, Windham bleeding and even Race getting into the mix with a dropping headbutt. I might've even gone **** on this with a better finish but it was great as is. This kind of angle would have you think Havoc is building to Luger/Windham, or perhaps Starrcade, but no. Not much would've moved the needle for 1991 WCW but this actually felt like a hot feud for a minute.

Agreed. I do not want to see him anymore. At all. Under any circumstances But it still made for a neat interaction and as long as he's not too prominent a part of Revolution there's no real harm.

Dead dad hater Christian Cage belongs on SNL. Yes, the show has fallen to all time lows the last couple years but I think it'd make the cut many weeks in a good season. On the other hand, I might prefer to watch Chris Benoit vs. his family than Timeless Toni Storm at this point. Its quickly become one of the worst gimmicks I can recall and an immediate fast forward/take care of something in the other room moment.

I'm dying to see the reaction if I wear a "Christian is my Father" shirt to synagogue this year.

If you were in Herb Abrams position.
WingedEagle replied to Autistic Dragon's topic in Pro Wrestling
Its either this or less coke and invest that cash in low expense funds before blowing another nickel on this carny nonsense and inevitably find yourself back on a path of coke and whores. -
I also preferred today's Dragon vs. ZSJ to WrestleDream by a hair, but we're really splitting hairs. I found today's technique and mat work, along with the late escalation superior, but just barely. However -- United Empire vs. BC War Dogs was the most unexpectedly great all time classic and MOTY frontrunner I've seen in ages. An incredibly violent and dramatic war that didn't feel nearly as long as it did. The raw violence and backyard cage were comparable to ROH/CZW Cage of Death while the Empire entrances called back to the best babyface fires from past Wargames. Its been a busy day so I have no clue what -- if any -- early consensus is on this one, but it absolutely rocked my world. Tremendous work and bloodshed from all.

AEW TV (02/07 - 02/10) Here she come now saying Mone Mone
WingedEagle replied to The Thread Killer's topic in AEW
Here's hoping they make a concentrated effort to feature and promote her as a star rather than quickly slotting in as another face on the roster. Absolutely loaded lineup tonight on the heels of the best Collision in quite some time. Super pumped.
