Guys who made better action figures than wrestlers

I didn't like the Arcidi doll. His arms were lowered down which pretty much took out all his offense. Okay in the case of Ted Arcidi who cares, but the best LJN's were that Hogan, Studd, both hands up able to do a lot of stuff mode. -
I hear you but there is more to it than that. You have to act like a face in some ways. Charlotte either acts like a heel or a robot.

Okay but marketing Bob Backlund and Adrian Adonis is a tough sell nowadays. This to be confirms that the WWE's various departments never talk. There is no way someone doing one of the many UT DVD sets or 2 Savage sets would not have jumped at the chance to include this in a release if they knew about it and cared about the quality of the products at all. I have a feeling Titan Towers should be raided by a group. When the Fink asks "who are you guys ISIS" they reply "No obscure wrestling marks. Now get to copying the tapes Fink or ELSE" I am kidding btw.

These are great choices. The 2nd Hogan was pretty lousy. He was stuck in that doing a bearhug mode (so bad I don't think they used it much again) so unless Hogan - Master of the belly to belly suplex was your new storyline you were out of luck with him. The first Hogan could not punch but I could live with that Also anyone who had the two legs stuck and molded together (1st Warrior, The Rockers, etc) used to tick me off. Akeem was also weird in that he and Bossman appeared significantly smaller than the rest of the roster. I have to share my favorite Hasbro story. I live in Central MA. About 13 years ago I am going through my local Wal Mart and find a Koko B Ware in French Canadian packaging MIB. No price tag but beyond baffled I walk to the register and it rings for $14 and change as,............a Mark McGuire autographed baseball. How all that happened over ten years after it left shelves I have no idea to this day. I wonder if someone didn't put it in the store as a sort of shop dropper. Any guesses? -
Meltzer is reporting that the ending segment on Raw was done because the creative team are finding it really hard to get Charlotte over as a babyface FWIW. Not sure I agree with Nikki being over totally on her looks. That's sort of right, but it's not. It's more a question of being over on her sexuality and personality. Unlike the other girls who pretty much downplay that element to the point where it's gone, she still acts a bit more like the pre Linda for Senator divas did. Struts around a lot, flaunts her looks, acts like a heel but still shows off to the crowd (and everyone knows a gorgeous girl who's kind of a you know what but still loves the attention) and shows off a lot. Her little things like flexing, doing pushups and sit ups during matches when not taking opponents seriously and in general showing LOTS of personality in the ring helped get her over as opposed to the trained robots like Charlotte she's up against. Maryse got over the same way basically it's not JUST she was hot. Put it this way, she got over by being a human being.. Maybe a lousy one, maybe just an uber hot one but a human being and that's more than most divas outside of NXT show or are allowed to show.

Barry Horowitz and Steve Lombardi
thebrainfollower replied to Judy Bagwell's topic in The Microscope
Horowitz was a mid card heel in FL right? Whereas Lombardi wrestled only in the WWF and really only as a jobber (name me one Brooklyn Brawler win over a name talent) Don't think that much of Lombardi but I love me some Barry. -

The Rude was even worse, he was a master of the dropkick I guess and that was it. The Rude Hasbro you could at least do the headlock punch, vertical suplex, ddt and his neckbreaker, sort of. I used to run endless PPV cards with my Hasbro's and none of them at least couldn't work as figures, which was more than the LJN's could say. Dibiase did indeed only have his suit at first. Last figure was trunks. I used to have him consistently attack or be attacked during the introduction to explain this away. Same reason Mountie had his full suit and UT and Papa Shango never lost their hats. Harley Race was another terrible figure as his hands were molded into his waist and the space between arms and torso were too small for headlocks. On the other hand Hogan, Valentine and Tito were amazing figures. Valentine was oddly bigger than everyone and Bundy was so heavy we used to joke he was the only action figure that might make a decent murder weapon. -
Your favorite angles that don't get a lot of love
thebrainfollower replied to goc's topic in Pro Wrestling
Jericho-Christian-Trish was the last angle I really was interested in, but it fizzled out due to an injury without any finish at all. I love the Heenan-Slick Hercules angle, especially the story at the bank. -

I only had 4 of the LJN's, Hogan, Sheik, Volkoff and Hercules. Never liked them as a kid but now my best friend has a full set minus Red Shirt Hogan and Strike Force Tito. Had a ton of the Hasbro figures later though and enjoyed them. Sold them all off a few years back except for Butch, Macho King, Duggan #2 and Razor Ramon, who were only saved because they were missing during my selling off my wrestling collection. The Kirchner figure, while not great, was a lot better than the wrestler. The Rude and Dibiase figures were beyond bad though. -
When did Mid South start to peak?
thebrainfollower replied to thebrainfollower's topic in Pro Wrestling
I will give you that. Makes me wish he had a Bill Dundee around in 92 -
Chyna got over ball shotting guys and never having to answer for her actions to the point where Austin stunnering her at No Way Out is just about the only male on female violence from an era filled with it that I could justify. Since there was no woman who could challenge her and she was basically daring any guy to take his best shot someone doing it was fine. She sold it terribly though. Lita got over being the Hardy Boys female friend, being a sort of role model to the teenage girls who seemed to love the Hardy Boys. Putting her against Trish made perfect sense since Trish represented the kind of girl that every average junior and senior high girl would be afraid of, cocky, mean to everyone but with a body hot enough and endowed enough to intimidate other girls and have jock buddies (Test and Albert) all too willing to do her bidding. It was a situation that, in its implications, was something a portion of the audience who never had ANYTHING in stories they could relate to now had something they could relate to. Trish got over even more through her interactions with Jericho. Absurd in the details sure, but the basic gist of it was a very believable story and something anyone could relate to. It was the most over Christian has ever been too. I think they are afraid to do that now though Johnny. You have a ready made story with John and Nikki and Nikki's smart enough to play the character, the uber hot alpha female girl jock who's dating the quarterback but they have never really come out and said it, just a subtext in her character that's there. I agree though interacting them with the guys would help a lot and does not have to involve man on woman violence.

I have had to listen to Bill Watts built up as the greatest promoter ever, a man whose vision of wrestling is still the most perfect of all time, a man who if we listened to, would have wrestling drawing 2 millions fans a night to 20 cards each night. Some of the smart people I talk to (most not around here) literally consider Bill Watts a god who is incapable of error. Instead we got his failed (IMO) WCW run, the fact that the 2 best years of Mid South weren't his ideas and the lengthy debate about why UWF failed. I am not saying he's not a GOOD promoter. I am saying the idea he's in a league of one that nobody even touches isn't accurate. And that's the way it's always been presented to me (Not necessarily around here, by everyone at least) -

The more I read about Bill Watts the more I wonder if Bill Watts - most overrated promoter ever in smarts eyes would be a good topic for discussion -
I am beyond irate that they have been sitting on a Randy Savage-Undertaker match for over 24 years now and have not found a use for it. I always assumed the cameras were off for those TV taping main events but I guess not.

Was Sunny really a face? I guess during the LOD run she was, but the only time she was a face was 97 where she didn't really do anything at all related to any actual stories or wrestlers. I could be wrong on this too, but I don't think Sunny ever wrestled a single match in the WWF. Anyone know if this is correct or not? Michelle McCool is a great comparison actually but at least that was only on Smackdown.
-
Anyone else see what Paige did on Raw as total desperation? Like, the next heel reveals herself to be a child murdering ISIS member? I don't get why they are so intent on Charlotte as a babyface when it is failing miserably. I just don't get WHAT goes on in Vince's head anymore.
-
Sunny on camera but she's just such a sad pathetic humiliation to herself now day in and day out. I don't think the same is true of Sable. Having said that NEVER understood Sable's popularity at all really as she was just not all that hot and had almost no skill or emotion.
-
But the thing is...........you need a lead babyface. WWF/E has ALWAYS worked that way and likely will, building around a lead babyface. The division's loss of interest connects with the fact that they have not had a top babyface female on the roster fans really cared about for nearly a decade now. Bayley could very well be it but she doesn't look like a supermodel so I thinks he has no chance with Vince. Charlotte flops and then what?

Thought SMW Cornette was actually played too tough.

Worst wrestler/manager combination ever?
thebrainfollower replied to Judy Bagwell's topic in Pro Wrestling
Maryse played her character amazingly well in ring and every little gesture or move and even her offense was tied to it. As a stage actor myself, she could have been great at that if it were her interest. NEVER got the vibes the Dudleys were going to turn on or hurt Stacy. Be happy to see any footage that proves me wrong. And mind you I DESPISE that era's man on woman violence with a passion. The Hurrifriends thing I didn't mind since they were all a low card comedy act anyway, but her complaining about the mask is an lol. -
Andre was a sociopath, but to quote Hannibal Lecter I think he was made that way. Great great pick on JBL. Loss hit a huge home run there. Undertaker got insufferable the moment WCW caved to the moment he became a part timer with his behind the scenes stuff.

Scott Steiner hates Bill Watts to this day. I agree with Parv, this was terrible booking, the last match should NOT have been what it was, either in execution or what went on last. Bill Watts 1992 PPV's are all booked by someone who is clueless IMO. This is the best one though.
