Worst wrestler/manager combination ever?
thebrainfollower replied to Judy Bagwell's topic in Pro Wrestling
For cripes sakes, that's just absurd. Mind you we do get that in theater too. I know a brilliant singer who can't go out for a lot of roles because her husband has "ordered" her not to take any parts where she has to kiss a guy. The whole experience did sour Maryse on wrestling completely, which is a shame because I think she could help the Miz's career out a lot if as a manager. -

Oh good lord I forgot about that. Maryse actually was starting to get over as a heel to a good extent, despite not being that great in the ring and then they paired her with Ted Dibiase and you could tell they hated each other and it buried both of them. What's odd is they never put Maryse with the Miz as an actual combo. -
Where the Big Boys Play #77 - Beach Blast 1992

You guys gave the best and fairest analysis of Cowboy Bill's rules I have ever heard. Major kudos to this show and if Parv thinks Jesse-mania is out of control I can only imagine. Really like this show. By far the best PPV of the Watts era. -

Coach wouldn't have worked with anybody. Just a terrible idea. No idea how Tolos was as a manager elsewhere. My feelings on Stacy as a bad idea with the Dudleys are that she tried to totally overshadow them at every turn and had zero clue or interest in actually acting like a heel. I hear the argument that attitude era fans didn't want to boo hot women, but Trish in 2000 and esp in 2004-05 was despised by crowds and played a great heel. Stacy managing a face frat boy like Test or Shawn Stasiak worked okay, anyone else did not. -
I wanna say it's uncut. I watched it there once.

When did Mid South start to peak?

This would seem an ideal show to podcast through -
Oh no............. Warrior is definitely a great PPV big match worker in WWF no doubt about that. Only his Hercules and Lawler matches aren't great as far as his singles matches go. Whether that's enough to put him in a top 100 I am unsure.

Agree with Pete completely, this is a dude who looked as though he didn't know wrestling was a work. The truth being, I think he didn't WANT it to be for him so he didn't cooperate. And if his last name wasn't Von Erich someone would have straightened him out real quick. Not a chance for my top 500.

Let me retry that. Stacy Keibler and the Dudley Boys were annoying as heck as a combo. -

Graham's comment is odd since the Wizard rarely if ever interfered. Cannot speak of his prior work but Humperdink in the WWF wasn't that great, but being a face manager is tough. I'll say Vader and Paul Bearer. Thought he should have just kept Cornette till he turned face. -
I have no problem with Mero to be honest. I don't think most fans, to the extent that they think of Mero at all, do either. Other wrestlers hate him because he was a smart businessman and they have a frat boy mentality. Same for Lex with the boys, an irony given Luger's behavior in college. List of people NOT on the top list I can't stand would be Sid and the Steiner Brothers.

ok thanks -
What time should anyone coming into Mid South's weekly show start to watch ideally?

WWE has not created or presented a really good babyface female wrestler on the main show in years.
-
I could go for that for sure.

I hear you Marty, but I still see Rude as somewhat green in 88, he just doesn't look polished the way he does a short year later. Who did he work with between Jake and Warrior anyway? Checking that it seems to be Hillbilly, Tito and Beefcake mostly. But he didn't work MUCH between Series 88 and WM V oddly. I think Sleaze hit it on the head, both guys brought out the worst in each other as they have weaknesses that mesh badly.

I thought the win with only a finisher from MSG was decent. Rude in 88 was still very green. Oddly though in 89 a year later he's having MUCH better matches with the Warrior IMO. So I don't know if I would chalk it up to Jake's laziness or not liking the angle but there you go.

Survivor series 1990 an alternative egg hatching
thebrainfollower replied to Judy Bagwell's topic in Pro Wrestling
As has been said, nothing. It worked out for the best if they were going to do it. A meaningless waste of ten minutes that did them no harm business wise. -
I hate to say it but for once I agree with Scott Keith. He theorized that just going out there and doing a Hogan match, with Savage suddenly the same guy he was in 1985 again was a huge mistake and that a crazy brawl would have been better. Certainly the finish is just dull. Savage should have avoided the first legdrop or something, but that's not how things were done back then. I generally think each Hogan-Savage feud is worse than the last. 89 is still decent but WM isn't as good as any of the matches prior I've seen, the Halloween Havoc match is bad, and the 98 feud even worse.

Nikki in ring is a decent heel, her bragging and fitness routines and general arrogance about her strength are decent. The thing is......acting like thatis hot to a lot of WWE's target audience so they get cheered. It's tough because Trish Stratus was a great heel in 04 and 05 but even by the end of that fans were cheering when she one upped Lita and Christy. It's really really hard for a gorgeous woman to get booed by an audience of mostly young guys unless she drops the sex symbol routine totally, which is something WWE does not want its women to do

What are people's thoughts on the 25 minute Flair-Reed match from 84 in Houston? I saw it yesterday and to be honest, found it boring as heck if logical in its storytelling. Seemed like a total paint by numbers Flair. What's the Flair-Reed match I need to see?
