  1. The magazine has had it's day, some years ago. FSM is better in every conceivable way nowadays. Don't know how their sales compare, PS seems to be sold in more places than FSM plus it has 20 years behind it so it probably still sells more. But it's just such a negative publication nowadays, down on everything about the current mainstream wrestling scene.
  2. I always expected Backlund to beat Razor at WMIX. He seemed like he was getting a push after getting the ironman spot in the Rumble, and Razor seemed to be on the downturn after losing to Bret at the Rumble.
  3. When did the WWF VHS releases come down in price in the states? They were always priced to own here, £9.99 for the hour long releases and £14.99 for the longer ones, PPVs etc, from 1990 or so when WWF videos first came out here. I remember seeing them advertised in the WWF magazine at $60 or whatever and wondering what the hell was going on.
  4. I think those matches WWF had with British guys on the UK tours in 89 and 91 were some kind of thing they were obligated to do for visa reasons or something.
  5. Kevin Nash. Even though he held the WWF title for a year, I would say he became a bigger star upon his return to WCW and the nWo angle. Scott Hall as well. Ricky Steamboat is arguable as you could argue he was a bigger "star" as WWF IC Champ than he was as NWA World Champ. He certainly became a bigger star upon his return to WCW in late 1991 though than he was as "the Dragon".
  6. Both of them work fine for me. [email protected] (password: pwo57talk) [email protected] (password: scottsdale) Anyone know anyone who might have of the interviews we are missing?
  7. I posted a lot of this stuff in the dropbox where the 57gold interviews are held.
  8. Cornette debuted in the WWF exactly 5 days after this interview.
  9. Was there any other situation anything like "Black Saturday" with Georgia where WWF TV directly replaced the local promotion's TV and people rejected it?
  10. Great show but how come you didn't talk about the Cactus Jack vs Eddie Gilbert feud?
  11. In the case of territories that Crockett took over it wasn't such a big leap as the local NWA promotion just got absorbed into the national NWA promotion. A lot of the time the seperate TVs continued for a while, as did the titles. I can't imagine that many people in Kansas City mourning the loss of Central States, and Georgia and Florida were shadows of their former selves when they merged with Mid Atlantic. Those two promotions were heavily affiliated with the Crockett promotion well before the takeover anyway. The UWF was a different matter entirely. And of course territories that were apart from that such as Southeastern, World Class, Portland etc just died slowly on the vine. The AWA was kind of directly replaced by the WWF with so many of their top stars and on air personalities jumping in 1984. I don't think it's that far of a leap to say that the expansion WWF resembled the AWA of years previous as much as it did the pre-expansion WWF.
  12. Demolition were done as a tag team after WM7. Crush left and Smash was a JTTS before being repackaged as Repo Man. The roster for the game would have been set well before it was released. If they'd been able to set it after WM7 either the Nasty Boys or Hart Foundation would have been in it instead of Demolition. Or they may have just put Bret in as a single along with someone else (Davey?).
  13. Warrior must have beat Mr Perfect at some point, surely? He definitely pinned him at Survivor Series 1990, I think there was a match between them on one of the Coliseum releases around that time, would imagine that Warrior won it cleanly.
  14. Why was Savage not in the WrestleFest arcade game that came out around this time?
  15. Was Nitro ever taped outside of North America? Was any WCW TV ever taped outside of North America? Not counting the German only PPV that was a bit of a disaster from what I've heard, I've never seen it.
  16. How was business in the year after Verne regained the title?
  17. Did you ever consider doing a bonus disc of 1990 AWA? I know it wouldn't be part of the 80s project but it would be a nice addition to the set.

Well they should get rid of the tag titles. Either that or do something with them again. Either a strong tag division with at least eight named tag teams that almost only wrestle in tag matches, or just have top guys hold it and do tag title matches as TV main events with the singles titles (WWE and World, anyway) reserved for PPV only.

I've said for years that they should drop the tag titles. No point in having them if they're at the bottom of the card.

"Wrestling is fake" isn't a panacea term that allows WWE to blatantly fuck fans over when expecting them to pay $65 to watch a title match that they are just going to overturn the result of the following day. WWE tries to walk a fine line between being sport and entertainment and having the benefits of both and the liabilities of neither. This is one of the times where that has bit them in the ass. If this had happened in UFC, and say the after the Pettis title win from Henderson, Dana had come out and said "the referee never heard or saw Bendo submit so the title change is overturned and by the way, I don't want Pettis to be champ" there would be absolute uproar. WWE will say, "well we're not sport, we're entertainment, just like TV shows like Breaking Bad etc etc. Stay tuned to see where the storyline goes next". Well those TV shows don't expect viewers to fork out $65 to see certain episodes. If they did, and the following episode of TV ended with the equivalent of Bobby Ewing in the shower and the PPV episode being "all a dream" and null and void, you can bet there'd be uproar about that too.

From PWInsider: I can see their point. You can't charge people $65 for something and immediately invalidate the result the following day. It really isn't a good idea either from a business or a creative standpoint.
  22. Sally Field looks terrible on that poster. It's amazing that Burt Reynolds was the #1 film star for 5 straight years around that time and Smokey and the Bandit is just about the only memorable film in that run.
  23. Any talk on Euro candidates?
  24. Most of Bret's signature moves were offensive moves. Most of Flair's were bumps off specific moves he needed his opponents to do, which made his matches very samey.
  25. This might have been mentioned later in the show, but Bret's time in England was definitely mentioned in his book. He talks about Big Daddy, and Dynamite setting him up with some girl at the Royal Albert Hall. Plus Julie coming over for a while and the two of them having to huddle together because it was so cold with no central heating. This is the only Bret Hart WoS match I've seen.
