PTBN Reaction Show: Battleground 2015
bradhindsight replied to Loss's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Probably the angriest and most disgusted you'll ever hear Kris be! I could relate to Johnny P, I also figured to be in the minority of liking the Reigns match outside some segments, but then everyone seemed to dig it (especially Phil). Good entry into the reaction series boys. -
C.S. - I'm fairly confident the low blow by Undertaker was meant to signify him turning heel for this feud. The crowd, however, completely didn't buy it and cheered him.

Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Tyler Breeze at NXT Takeover in Brooklyn on 8/22
bradhindsight replied to KrisZ's topic in WWE
I don't know if there as much deliberately going at ROH, more so than the thinking of "What's the best night of a weekend to run our minor league brand before our big show?" - and by happenstance it duplicates with ROH (it did at Mania only because HoF was Saturday). ROH is already selling Supercard of Honor tickets for next April, can't blame them. -
"I don't have time for the product apart from NXT" was a dead giveaway

Exile on Badstreet #10 (The Battles of Backlund)

If making a change, I'd probably wait until post Valentine '81 also and then work Slaughter in to take the belt and really heat up Snuka for a huge win. -
Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Tyler Breeze at NXT Takeover in Brooklyn on 8/22

Nice showcase for Liger, maybe he's on the HOF docket for next year. I'm sure they'll play up how he's on the network also. ROH announced their show months before NXT, why would they either change it now, or my personal favorite, move their outdoor show (in August) to the middle of the afternoon to accommodate the WWE? Fuck that. -
I've followed the Filsinger games for a while now, couple times (just wouldn't have the time) I've been real close to ordering all their ROH stuff. Glad to see support here for it also. We may need an ongoing thread to discuss (this one works too!). The other thing that I've been curious about is the deck games, like Chad mentioned (I'm assuming Nitro is a deck). Those obviously rely on a second person though.

Have they been adding a match each day post launch?

ROH: Best in the World.... Live As It Happens
bradhindsight replied to Parties's topic in Pro Wrestling
It's tough when they're televising the NJPW exhibition (essentially) matches, which are complete one-offs to their normal TV and are essentially in a vacuum of "really good wrestling". I felt like they built to the tag titles and the main event fine in their TV on the lead up to Best in the World. They even did a contract signing segment. Even ACH/Page had build with backstage segments. Then on the flipside there are matches just thrown together (like the #1 contender's match), but I somewhat get that given the lack of TV time. It's an interesting discussion - does their model change with a return to iPPV? -
PTBN ROH Best in the World 2015 Reaction Show

Really enjoyed the deep dive on ROH as the ppv was really just the backdrop to a great conversation. Going to post some of the talking points in the roh thread for discussion as well -
ROH: Best in the World.... Live As It Happens

I think Lethal's character work and push put him on the same level as Briscoe, but this title vs. title didn't have an arc where Briscoe was passing the torch, or that it was a given conclusion Lethal would win. I was in the camp where Moose supplanting Briscoe (eventually) was the better story. -

My thoughts: I was surprised Dijak jobbed clean as a sheet in the open, just with how he's been positioned as the Top Prospect winner. I could have seen a miscommunication spot or something that maybe led to a fuzzy pin but this was really Mark overcoming that crazy bump and just flat going over. Mark also got the pinfall in that big 10-man at Global Wars. FWIW, I thought Dijak wrestled well and looked crisp. I kind of like that they've slow-played the ACH-Page rematch, going with this tag to advance the story further - inserting Colby into it now as well. Whitmer *is* in a groove with this gimmick and when he gets his comeuppance it should be good. Castle/Silas exceeded my expectations. Good match. C&C/War Machine - I had no issue with this being strictly angle advancement since it was the last match added. Cedric not punking out Caprice was confusing until what happens later. Roddy/Moose/Elgin - so, once they announced the winner here was going to get their shot at the next iPPV, it kind of cancelled out any thinking (for me) that Moose would win. I think he and Lethal will do good business...eventually, but that's something for December. Elgin being protected is the worst. I do want to watch this again because man it seemed like Moose was wrestling like a guy Roddy's size vs. being MOOSE. Hey, selling is great, but this guy is a monster. He should be wrecking guys. Sometimes given his size his bumps look weak but all-in-all pretty good last year since his debut. After watching this and the Cedric match on TV, I don't think he's ready either. Roddy is interesting, had a good TV match with Lethal in Feb, and I do think there are legs to his Mr. ROH story. I don't know how that works with him so engaged elsewhere though. Bucks/Kingdom - current PPV feed stalls at 1:57ish, missed the second half so far. Tag titles - haven't watched but the NO DQ stip was warranted after the initial KRD sneak attack and Kyle 2:1 last week. Main event - Letha/Briscoe was a GREAT piece of business - the O'Reilly/Lethal match being some of the best stuff ROH has done all year. Im not convinced I like Lethal in big-time feel matches at all but thought Briscoe was great. I was surprised at the result - and with no shenanigans (after Lethal pretty much as relied on them all year). Don't know what Jay does from here. -
Especially when they're charging what they are for what amounts to an iPPV stream through UStream. I finally stopped trying to pick things up 2 hours in and at least got a good portion into the main event. Fortunately I caught the last 20 or so minutes of the main live.
-
Mad Dog - when was that match? I'd like to seek it out. Completely agree with everyone on Silas. That headstand in the corner is by far the worst move in ROH right now. It is so disconnected from his look and motivation. I like the idea of a comedy tag team for a bit - he could eventually even turn baby face out of that.

Cheeseburger is lucky to get one segment in a 4-hour TV taping block. The last time he was on TV before this past week was March (from a January taping). BUT - he's over, it isn't like he's coming out to a Michael Elgin-esque crowd reaction. I can see the talking point with the timing of the move to Destination America, but then they went out and Brutal Bob looks like a complete prick putting the kid through a table for a no contest.

BRAINBUSTER 5!!!!!!!!! IF YOU WEEEEL
bradhindsight replied to Johnny Sorrow's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Beast and RCS1988 were excellent competitors. Kelly barely surviving episode to episode is generating some classic NWA heel champ heat. "I am the Canadian Dream" was the cherry on top. -
