Great show!! I prefer the southern wrestling reviews to WWF since I'm from the south. I LOVE Ernie Ladd. He's a 6'9 Fred Sanford. I also loved the Mr. Wrestling II / Assasin interview. I liked them calling each other "sir" even though they hated each other. II had it coming though....he started the whole thing. The Assasin was DRAGGED in the ring and merely had to defend himself and in the process of trying to lift up Wrestling II the mask "accidentally" came off. That's what I saw.....

This thread is great. I was waiting to see Parv's reaction to the box but sadly there was no box. Parv was slowly turning into Buzz Sawyer.....LOL....."WHAT'S IN THE BOX???"

I listened and it seemed like they were getting ready to get into the good stuff when it stopped for part 2. They pretty much covered Russo's beginning through the birth of Stone Cold. Russo is OK and definitely willing to talk but just as he finds southerners obnoxious I find him to be overbearing at times. Austin made this a decent interview and I think part 2 will be better than part 1.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread

Great interview and commentary by Jim Ross!! -
Great show guys! My favorite parts of the show are you guys simply laughing at the absurdity of WCW. Parv's laugh reminds me of Penfold's laugh on Dangermouse.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on Koko. He was always one of my favorites growing up watching WWF. I loved The Birdman gimmick and thought with a solid push considering how popular he was maybe he could have gotten the IC title. After watching the Memphis set my fondness for Koko grew and I thought he was much more versatile and a better worker than he is given credit for being. People always crap on his HOF induction but I had no issues with it. What do you guys think of The Birdman??

I didn't watch the full match but I caught the ending on YouTube. Taker does look shot and probably won't be back. IF he were to come back I could see him maybe getting Brock again. In my head I'm thinking Brock and Bryan collide at SummerSlam with Brock coming out on top and going on a massive run beating lots of guys but also slowly becoming unhinged and harder to control. Maybe a rejuvinated Taker wins the Rumble and challenges Brock? Personally if Taker were to come back I would like to see him somewhat mirror Shawn Michaels and be forced to put his career on the line vs. Brock, who would be obsessed with believing he's invincible. In a Mania match Taker could eke out a win but have some previous callbacks flipped like Taker being on his knees looking up at Brock and Brock slashing his throat or something. If Taker won have him lie motionless, totally spent and play up the "Taker gave his life to save WWE" bit and have some surreal Druid-filled closing bit to retire Taker...... .....or have him come out the next night, put Brock over huge on the mic, say that he realizes after last night he only has 1 match left in him and either call out Cena or leave it open ended with a year build as to who gets to face Taker in his final match. I believe he's gone and I'm not articulating everything as well as I would like due to time constraints but I think Taker deserves a better sendoff than last night. I hope he didn't get a diagnosis like Edge did or something. I'll flesh out my full thoughts later.....

I really enjoyed the Big Bubba Rodgers vs. One Man Gang match on the Mid-South Blu-Ray. What are some other great super heavyweight battles that are worth a look??

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Lust Hogan replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Saw this posted on Wrestling Classics and figured I would put it here as well since it was already out there..... Details On Jeff Jarrett And Toby Keith Almost Buying TNA, How Bob Carter Turned Them Away Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter The expected wrestling promotion with Jeff Jarrett and country music star Toby Keith is said to be a long way from happening. The partnership came together when TNA was for sale and Jarrett went through his Nashville music industry connections trying to put together a bid to buy the company. The deal was reportedly very close at one point. Bob Carter came to Keith to finalize the deal and the two sides were close on a price, although they were not quite there. The belief is they were going to hash it out but Carter only had one request in selling, which was that Dixie Carter would remain with her title, have some power in the company and remain a TV character. Keith said he wasn't going to buy the company with any creative limitations so the deal actually fell apart because Bob Carter in the end was going to protect his daughter. Someone in TNA close to the situation said, "That's why we all are still here," noting if it was about business, TNA would have never survived after the big move to primetime TV and the Hulk Hogan debacle failed to stop the company from losing money. At that point, the feeling was from Keith and Jarrett that they didn't need to buy the company as they could start their own. When this story got out within TNA, those who believed Janice Carter's memo about not selling realized they had been had. Regarding Jarrett and Keith's promotion, one person with knowledge described it as being in step 1 of a 10 step project and that it would likely be late this year at the earliest before it's off the ground. -
I always liked the Wahoo heel turn. He was simply tired of being overlooked. I also liked the Jimmy Garvin face turn when he stuck up for Ronnie after the fireball incident with Jim Cornette and charged into the heel locker room.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

WWE is scheduled to release Best of The Great American Bash around June or July according to Wrestling DVD News. http://www.wrestlingdvdnews.com/wwe-releas...+%26+Reviews%29 -
This reminds me of Star Wars fans wanting the original trilogy on blu-ray and getting that crap George Lucas put out.

Punk seems lost in the shuffle like Bret was prior to Survivor Series. I think they could have gotten a good run with Punk being resentful of Bryan and built toward that for Mania but it seems like they had their plans set in stone.

I agree that WWE isn't handling this the best way. It seems like their major concern is controlling the Daniel Bryan narrative rather than making money with the guy. I agree with all of you that what fans want most is the sustained push of Bryan. I also think it will be interesting to see how this (if at all) affects WWE Network subscriptions. Will fans give money to a company that constantly ignores what they want? I was thinking about this yesterday and I know that most people say the best way to get WWE's attention would be to stop watching or paying but what if their was a drastic crowd reaction that totally disrupted the show like garbage being thrown during the middle of a match with the Vince picked stars or worse? I just have this feeling WWE is going to get their "Snowballs at Santa" moment sooner rather than later.... I get that the tweets and part of the booking is a work but I think WWE might work themselves into a shoot if they're not careful.
-
So I know that the WWE will always have its core audience but do you think there is a point of no return for them as far as not listening to what the fans want? It seems as if they are holding back the Bryan push for their own reasons but also act as if they can just flip the switch with him and expect the fans to come back. Do you think there's a point when fans give up on Bryan? Will fans move on to the next under valued wrestler or will they feel burned by WWE management? This all seems so odd with the WWE Network coming so soon. You would think management would want to cater to fans and they seem hellbent on pissing them off. How do you think the current booking will affect network subscriptions?? Even with Wrestlemania bundled if Bryan isn't in a decent match do you think that will affect a segment of buyers?? These are thoughts running through my head at the moment.....

Sting vs. Jeff Hary when Jeff was "under the influence" is one that popped in my head. Booker T. Vs Bagwell and Goldberg vs Lesnar. Although I understand the circumstances I really dislike Hogan vs. Michaels at SummerSlam when Shawn oversold everything in the match.

Where the Big Boys Play #56

I was thumbing through Ole's book the other day and guess who's idea it was to have the Black Scorpion do magic? David Crockett!! That is all..... -
I have 2 Rokus ( The 2 and the 3 ) and they are great. There is also a Roku app that let's you play your music, videos, and photos on your TV. Roku also got YouTube right around Christmas so you can also watch that on your TV too! I had Apple TV but like Roku better. Very easy to navigate. Woot.com also has Rokus marked down sometimes too.

Question: If I sign up for the network right before Wrestlemania and pay for the 6 month commitment wouldn't I also get SummerSlam too? If so, why then would I want to renew after the 6 months when the programming has traditionally been bad from SS until RR? Just the content and free PPVs? I wonder if WWE will do something like a 6 month commitment from Feb., 5 month from March, etc....to keep WM and SS seperated??

Great show! I think the worse the show is the funnier you guys are. Parv's laugh always cracks me up. It reminds me of Pinfold from the Dangermouse cartoon. BTW I have Ole's book ( A really good read ) and the way he explains the Black Scorpion was that he simply came up with a random name for an opponent for Sting almost as a joke and Herd LOVED it and wanted it booked but Ole kept telling him it was just a name that had no meaning. I'll have to go back and look for specifics for this show and all the magic. Ole also got into an argument ( I think this was later down the line ) with Herd over Flair's pay. Ole wanted to lower costs and Herd said Flair needed to make $750,000 per year or something like that BECAUSE he was the World Champion and the champion needed to be paid really well. Ole kept telling Herd that they GAVE Flair the title and he didn't EARN it. Ole said if he knew this was the case he would have booked himself as champion to get the money! -
Yeah the Austin set is REALLY good. I think it's probably the best bio done on one person by the WWE that I can think of right now. BTW, these DVDs aren't just in a bin but in a big display somewhere in the Electronics department. One Walmart I went to had it in the middle of the department while the last one I went to had it facing the TVs and was toward the back.

Well Happy Monday to all!! WHOOH!!! That being said, this week will be interesting as the 49ers play Charlotte. The Panthers want Flair on their sidelines during all playoff games but he just inspired the 49ers in TAKING DOWN Green Bay. Will Flair go with the Panthers (they are in Charlotte) or will he turn heel and go with the 49ers? I'm pretty sure he goes with the Panthers but again it would make my day for Flair to hook up with my 49ers. WHOOH!

Ric is my favorite wrestler and the 49ers are my favorite team. I just want a Flair strut after a touchdown and I'll probably crap my pants.

Which promoter do you feel utilized you to your fullest and why? Did you prefer being a bigger fish in Mid-South vs. one of many big fish in WWF? What is the biggest similarity between Vince McMahon and Bill Watts? Biggest difference? Have their been any angles you have refused to be a part of for any reason?
