Maybe worth noting that there were two "Three Way Dance" matches between Douglas, Funk and Sabu. The first in '94 at The Night the Line Was Crossed, and a sequel at the second PPV, Hardcore Heaven '97. Although neither match is something I'd consider worthwhile on whole, I do recall the PPV match being at least a bit more coherent. The interview segment in the hotel after the first match in 1994 is, however, required viewing.

1989. Start with the "holy trilogy" and go into the blood feud that follows. You'll see what are widely regarded as the top WCW matches, promos, PPV's, performances, everything. The Nitro era was fun, but what happened in '89 really defined the company.

I watched this a few months ago and those spots gave me PWG/Steen vibes. Big fan.

Ideally, we would see another brand split with the territory system coming back into play. Each territory would be it's own brand and function similar to a pro sport franchise. There's even a ready-made platform in the WWE Network, which could cover different matches from around the country. Everything would function under the WWE banner and there would be two divisions, the AWA and the NWA. From there, territories are created based on ability to draw and practicality. Creating the brand would depend on the territory, and this would provide an opportunity for fans to support brands they are nostalgic for such as WCW/GCW, ECW, WCCW, UWF/Mid-South, CWF, Mid-Atlantic. etc.

I went through Graham's site to get clarification on ECW's slow expansion: 1992-1993 - Pennsylvania 1994 - added spots in Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey 1995 - expanded to Florida, NYC, Connecticut 1996 - not much other than two matches co-promoted with IWA in Japan 1997 - Massachusetts, West Virginia, Pay Per View 1998 - Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, co-promoted Japan with FMW 1999 - South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois, Tennessee, National TV 2000 - Washington D.C., Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, Texas, Ontario, Arkansas

2007 Loss watched a bunch of matches; 2013 Loss has most certainly seen many more. It would be interesting to compare.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
peachchaos replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Tyson comes to mind, but he made multiple appearances. As far as cameos go, that might take the cake. As a kid, I liked to connect the dots and assumed it was Jim Cornette under the beard. -
Thanks for the head's up. I have seen the Rose/Sommers feud with the Midnight Rockers and the feud with Borne from Portland. Needless to say, I'll take all the Buddy I can get. Fantastic worker.
-
I'm not suggesting I don't enjoy the man's work personally. In the past, Bigelow has been overrated as a worker to the point where some have called him the "best big man in the business". At this point he is never mentioned on WWE television and only turns up in clips when they show the ring break bump with Taz(z). It isn't too much of a stretch to say Bam Bam Bigelow has been "overrated" as a worker and is "mostly" forgotten.

Great Matches witha Tag Wrester in a Singles Match
peachchaos replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
I always dig when two teams are feuding and split off into singles against each other for a night. Bulldogs-Foundation comes to mind, with Bret and Dynamite having that show-stealer at the Capp Centre. I know the feud and Dynamite in general have fallen out of favor among these ranks, but its still gold to me. The Flair-Morton Cage Match from '86 seems pretty obvious, too. -
I've only seen a little of each guy, just their famous pimped classics. Very impressive stuff all around. Guess I should reserve judgement until I see more Portland and AWA, but judging by their most highly regarded matches, it's gonna be tough.
-
As much as I dig the guy, I think this could apply to Bam Bam Bigelow.
-
Pillman & Owen left to fight off DX would've been interesting. No way he was going back to WCW at that point. He would have been too perfect in 1998 WWF.
-
Yeah, that one time he said something controversial in-character really tarnished his career as a performer.

Good stuff here. Hogan-Warrior II at Mania would have made a lot of sense, there's been some speculation in any case.
-
I believe Hogan mentioned him and Linda might have been pushing too hard to keep them together...
-
Good question and I guess we should be grateful that they did wait until Mania for a televised match, since it ended up an "undisputed classic". It would do the feud no service if there were a bunch of angle-building TV matches out there. Then again, lightning did end up striking twice somehow. Hmm. Interesting Savage was looking to retire at that point. I ended up seeing WM7 in 1992 when I discovered wrasslin', and I'll never forget how cool I thought I was not-knowing-the-result-but-thinking-I-knew Warrior lost because of his epic return at WM8. Then Savage ended up losing and I just had no idea what to think about life anymore.

Greatest WWF/E IC Championship Match of All Time?

I guess feud or not, I really just like watching these guys work each other, so I'm determined to find everything. Obviously I was missing a few matches and had some dates mixed up, so thanks for clarifying what was out there and I couldn't agree more with your assessment of the feud-centric material in a modern context. Going the completist route and making a comp... Prologue (11/7/85 Rosemont, 12/7/85 Boston, 7/27/86 Toronto) Feud (11/1/86 Boston, 11/22/86 Superstars (taped 10/28/86 Binghamton), 1/10/87 Philly, 2/15/87 Toronto, 3/29/87 Pontiac) Epilogue (5/11/97 Cream of the Crop promo, 5/15/87 Houston) Throw in the 1/5/87 Meadowlands tag and the 2/23/87 MSG 6-man with all the hype & promos. Am I missing anything that's out there on tape? -

Here's what I've got: 0. 12/7/85 Boston 1. 7/27/86 Toronto 2. 11/22/86 Philly (Superstars/Injury Angle) [1/1/87 Ricky Steamboat anti-drug promo] [1/31/87 Superstars Update on Ricky Steamboat] 3. 2/15/87 Toronto [2/23/87 MSG 6 Man Tag (Steamboat, Piper, JYD vs. Savage, Adonis, Race)] 4. 3/29/87 Pontiac [4/11/87 Ricky Steamboat promo as IC Champion] 5. 5/15/87 Houston 6. 7/26/87 Toronto Makes for a pretty well-rounded feud. Great watch. -

Took me a minute to think about it, but Benoit-Sullivan 96-98 came to mind. A headed feud based on a real life angle that culminated in a brutal match, a match so good they would often bring it back to pop the ratings on free TV. Needless to say, pretty surreal and tragic stuff to watch today, but it was about as hot an undercard feud as you could have in 1996, as it also tied into the Horsemen-Dungeon-Maniacs-WTF feud. I'm always a sucker for a good face-turn, so something like Dibiase-Virgil or Corino-Tajiri is perfect undercard fodder to me. In the case of Tajiri-Corino, their angle + match surpass nearly anything else in company history.

I'd always heard that happened from a match with Abdullah where fire was involved. This was explained on the WWE documentary. It was a medical condition from when he was young, I can't remember the exact details. Gallbladder or something.
