  1. Not a bad angle, but a bit too hokey for my tastes. Well done for what it was. I did like the finish with Diesel not using the powerbomb, but almost getting it despite being distracted by the big boot. Then he just punches Horowitz once and it's over. Kinda cool way of doing it I think.
  2. Bret isn't wrong in this one about Shawn, but he's clearly so much of a mark for himself just by the content that it's hard to really be on his side. That said, the Bret/Shawn training part of Raw last week was easily one of the top 2 parts of the show. The more I see of this period of Raw, the more both Bret and Shawn really have fatal flaws that show through anytime they have a microphone. And both are phenomenal athletes and workers, but they are absolute polar opposites in the ring. Bret is all about making everything he does basic and impactful-looking. Shawn wants to make everything pretty and spectacular. I'm obviously more of a Bret guy and I think that difference I just outlined is a major reason. The WWE went the other way and I feel like the modern WWE style is very much patterned after Shawn Michaels specifically.
  3. Goldust and Piper works better than Goldust and Razor. I don't think Razor was near as into this as Piper was character-wise. When both guys are playing it to the hilt like this it works great.
  4. Interesting thing to try. Not sure I'm as high on it as the rest of the comments, but way better than the "bookerman" thing.
  5. Admittedly, better than the previous skits. Still weak despite some very good on point humor.
  6. This and the Sting/Bubba match from two weeks prior are two excellent examples of really fun, hard-hitting TV matches. Neither will go down as an all-time classic, but both are better than a lot of the content around them just for how well-executed they are for not being particularly well-structured. I am also not a fan of either team, but this one was a beacon of hope that good things are coming.
  7. I hadn't seen this and Bret's comments about Mexican wrestling are pretty telling. Who are you to judge El Dandy anyway? For all my not liking Shawn for certain aspects of his in-ring style, he is clearly in great shape and (surprisingly) can throw not ridiculously bad looking punches. When there is a half of a heavy bag in front of him. Bret's training, in comparison seems on the one hand tame, but getting stretched by Stu seems like it would really, really, really suck. If only either promotion cared about submissions not involving your designated finisher that would certainly be a huge advantage to Bret.
  8. That's a great podcast right there. Fun to hear about what "aerial wrestling" was defined as in the 70s in Japan as well. Especially given how it took off later.
  9. A couple of those quotes were not great, but I have a feeling you could find some pretty damning Vince McMahon quotes if you wanted to go the other direction. The whole "Hulk handcuffing himself to the turnbuckle" bit was the only good part of the segment. I was wondering why WCW had the camera so close on that while it happened.
  10. Agree with all the above. These are consistently good, which is difficult to say about the rest of Raw.
  11. Great match with the exception of Shawn's oversell out of the corner where he actually trips over Kid following a dropkick. Really great work by both, Shawn in showing vulnerability and Kid shows he can look like a complete badass. Odd structure with the only real shine being Shawn backdropping Kid over the top during his entrance. still worked though.
  12. Dustin really got into playing Goldust. Easily one of the more entertaining gimmicks on the roster right now just for how off-kilter it was and how much Dustin didn't back down from it at all.
  13. As much as I would not be a wrestling fan now if I had dipped in at this point of Raw and Nitro (and both shows suck more than they don't right now), I find Vince's humor mostly falls flat here. Yes, that whole woman's shoe thing is beyond ridiculous and well-played here. I would argue that very often Vince's shows, for reasons not dealing with the talent, are equal or worse than Nitro more often than not and better maybe once. Maybe you clean up your own house before shit-talking the other guy's house.
  14. I was listening to a podcast the other day (can't remember which) and they mentioned that some of the non-Lucas folks who had been at LucasFilm from the start, his wife, etc. had remarked that every idea he had was 20% a good idea, he just needed people to strip away the 80% of the idea that made it bad. George Lucas was Vince Russo......
  15. I tried watching the 2024 product. They seem to have embraced the idea they need wrestling on their show. At the same time there is too much "entertainment" present while that is going on and it tends to hurt the matches. Not only that, everyone seems to be working in a way that is both sloppy and yet not impactful-looking at all. It's like they are performing some kind of overly rehearsed choreography with no kind of meaning to it.
  16. I'd say Meltzer throwing shade at Dutch while he was hospitalized is pretty despicable.
  17. Two words: No and NO. Let's keep the Warrior where he belongs, not on my TV screen.
  18. Still waiting on that Foley match. The WWF really liked to lay it on thick with the vignettes before somebody debuted, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
  19. A lot of this was really awkward. But most babyface vs. babyface stuff is without some hint of a turn. The being said, both Shawn and Diesel ahve been acting more than heelish enough to turn despite the fact that the crowd has failed to notice on both counts. So strange.
  20. This was a great TV match for sure. I am with whoever said the finish hurt it, but a lot of the offense in this was crisp and well-executed. Plus that DDT by Arn.
  21. So this high heel thing has gone way too far and needs to stop. I will say this is better than the rematch on the 2/19 Nitro by light years. If you thought Hogan's offense was way too heelish here, thats all he did besides punching in the rematch. I understand how Hogan got over in the first place, I just wish that at this point he understood it. He would sell and get sympathy before making a big comeback. Hard to do when you get 90% of the offense and you don't have a varied OR babyface style offense. Also, Hogan and Savage bullying Heenan is stupid. The heel Horsemen clearing out Bischoff and Mongo...they are heels and supposed to be bullies, especially to people who can't fight back. Hogan and savage are supposed to be the good guys. From what I've seen on Raw and Nitro the main event babyfaces are suffering from "being a heel is cooler than being a babyface"-itis before the NWO starts.
  22. I kind of get this in the Pillman character sense, but it really set off a lot of terrible things. The Arn/Sullivan stuff was awesome while it lasted.
  23. Total agreement with Soup. Not because what Vince is saying about Ted or anyone else is false, but for how tasteless they are. Not to mention that half of what Vince is saying about Ted overall could easily be applied to himself. On a related note, very weak episode of Raw. Nothing really landed.
  24. So this is the last one of these right? Also, that ad Vince wanted to put in the paper was beyond ridiculous.
  25. I'd agree this had a different feel to the WCW hotshot matches. Nash got put over big by both guys, which might be why. It seems like the WCW attempts for this kind of deal leave way too many excuses and go on a little too long. Here they keep it pretty short and sweet, leaving you wanting more.
