  1. Not a fan of even mentioning the idea that Bret's loss was some kind of curse at work. He squashes that pretty quickly though, and references Monty Python in the process! Love ya Bret! I liked the shot he took at Curt too. I can't imagine Bret was really into any kind of feud with Shango.
  2. Jake did well here. This reminds me of the bar in one of the worst MST3K movies they did that happened to be made in the 80s. The chanting was hilariously bad throughout.
  3. Stan was great in this, selling the eardrum. Loved the heat and Corny's Ether Bunny line. Tom egging the fans on with the tag belt was a nice touch too.
  4. Fun little brawl with great work from Eddie on the stick. Eddie demanding respect and then wrestling straight maybe 1/3 of the match was great.
  5. Buddy doing the promo from his couch in his un-flattering underwear was definitely a bold choice that somehow works in his promo's favor. Rich did great work.
  6. Flair is definitely enjoying himself here. Razor is, as mentioned, a huge star without any big matches. Guys like Flair treat him as an equal and he's gotten heat on Savage. Hell of a way to start a run.
  7. So 2 of my top 10 wrestlers ever and the first instance of my favorite wrestling theme song (Kawada's theme is so amazing!) on the yearbooks. Week made. Loved how chippy the transitions are in this match. It's always something like a few kicks to the head from the ground while the other is trying to pick them up or a counter off of a big move into something that opens up a big move for the other guy. Everything feels earned. And the way they worked those headlocks was great. Taue really was scrappy early on with his. Finishing run was amazing with a lot of out-of-nowhere counters basically out of desperation because they didn't want to eat the next big bomb. I liked the short, terse handshake. It's so characteristic of both of these guys not to make a huge deal out of it, just a quick handshake and walk away. Just want to say it extremely clearly. Matches like this are why I love pro wrestling and AJPW.
  8. Love seeing this match. While it may not stand up to the more polished-for-TV matches it will eventually be compared with, I love how they worked this crowd. For what it was meant to be it is perfect. Lane and the ref ducking Corny's wild, blind tennis racket swings is absolutely amazing. Shit, anytime Corny gets involved the match gets incredible. Not that any of the wrestlers are bad, but Corny just brings things up a level. Probably due to the crowd hating him so much. What was the crowd chanting at him that got him so mad?
  9. Super violent brawl that barely makes it into the ring. Both guys take ridiculous bumps onto the concrete. How this aired on a family show I'm not sure, but I loved it!
  10. Loved Razor here. He's so great at making you believe he is the gimmick despite how far away from Scott Hall it is. Something tells me that Hall might have been the most wrestling-smart of the guys in the Kliq, but the drugs and booze kept him away from his true potential. I've also heard people talk about how difficult he was to deeal with, so that may have factored into it. Not sure I enjoy how the WWF aired their TV/PPVs and the different markets and how damn confusing that had to be for the people in charge of what aired when. How often did that lead to spoilers I wonder.
  11. Loved all of this. Corny's excuse was hilarious, as was his rolling in the $20k. Which I would assume had to go back to the bank?
  12. I'll say it was a fun match with the Fultons (I can't call them the Fantastics with Jackie there) playing kind of a Fabulous Ones-style asshole babyface team, which is what they have been all along. They worked the stip well with some obvious exceptions, which have been mentioned. And it was structured like a Southern tag, which is always a huge plus for me. Best SMW match yet.
  13. That did indeed look like 20k. Wonder if the bank knew what was going to happen with that money later.
  14. Typical mid-feud heel win in Memphis really. They carry it off well enough, but sometimes I think it would be better just to skip to the blowoff match with knowledge of how the heel won in the middle rather than watch all of the screwy endings.
  15. Not much of an interview from Rich and that "phone interview" was kinda weird and hard to understand. Somewhat entertaining at first but it loses it's charm as it goes.
  16. Hoping the match is more Sheepherders than Bushwhackers because that would fit pretty well perfect into 92 Memphis.
  17. I thought the first fall was great. Second was the standard even-up deal. Like the third until Dandy sat in a figure 4 forever. I get that it makes guys look tough to stay in a finishing hold a bit and then make the ropes. That long just makes the hold/wrestler look weak. Then Dandy blows it off instantly, which I don't care for either. I will agree the camera work was top-notch on catching the interference.
  18. Not a fan of this either. Flair runs through his signature stuff then we get all the 'Taker no-sells and a DQ. Uninspired booking and effort really.
  19. Some great moments here. Vader taking that German from Rick is such a ridiculous and amazing visual at the same time. I am not a fan of Vader letting Rick run him over or Rick sandbagging the chokeslam, but that suplex made me pop. Rude was amazing, slinking away from any kind of trouble and letting the bigger men do the hard work then coming back in to reap the benefits. Vader murdering both Sting and Rude was just incredible. Jake taking advantage to DDT Sting was great too. Loved Vader's offense all the way through. And Sting looks like a force of nature. Gotta love that. On the bad side, way too short and the eliminations were stupid in a lot of cases. Hercules/Super Invader is way too plodding on offense for this match. Definitely a lot of fun stuff that is worth focusing on over the nonsense.
  20. I wouldn't say best produced WCW video for this. Second best easily. The best is that 91 black & white NWO style promo that Arn & BW did in a junkyard. This one is not far behind though. Simmons is more of a rock-solid upper midcard guy who you know exactly what you can get out of and is just miscast here. Your world champ is a guy who can carry the promotion and that's not Simmons. And I am not knocking Simmons at all here. You need more guys like that (read: Arn Anderson, Kevin Sullivan, RnR Express, Midnights, the list goes on) than you do the major superstars to make a wrestling show. Simmons has a good look and is athletic enough and big enough that you keep him pushed and only let the next superstars go over him as an achievement, but he's not gonna be the guy you rally the fans behind like a Flair or a Sting.
  21. This was really, really good. They were celebrating TBS specifically, so it would have been whatever promotions TBS was airing at the time. The Tony Atlas footage surprised me with that athletic jump kick he threw. Hadn't seen enough Tony Atlas in his younger years to know he did that kind of stuff.
  22. Not the best heel turn. I'll vote for an in-ring turn as well because Pillman was such an effective heel that he deserved a better turn.
  23. To garretta's point about announcers...how the fuck do you have Gordon Solie and Lance Russell hanging around and not on TV? That alone tells me that something is horribly wrong with WCW. Thunderbolt was a little off, but you could see the charisma for sure. Really liked Bullet Bob despite his forgetting the title Brad holds. I've seen Bruno badmouth Vince/the WWF a lot and it never comes off well. I get that he probably has a legitimate beef with how Vince does business and he would prefer the general WCW style. It does seem like beating a dead horse after a certain point though.
