  1. A lot has been said about how good this match was. And I can't help but agree! Such a seamless match worked with great intensity all the way through. I was pumped as soon as I saw who would be wrestling in the match and I got more than I bargained for. Steamer taking out Rude and choking him was such a great way to get payback. I was surprised the Turner people allowed that on TV.
  2. I thought this was a great brawl. The out-for-revenge-jobbers at ringside was a really nice twist on the lumberjack theme. I do question the need to put over the Moondogs this strong continually. The babyfaces need a bit more left after the match to keep things hot going forward.
  3. Great wild, violent brawl between two guys who are great at them.
  4. I liked this as a cheeseball tribute to 80s wrestling. And it got under the skin of all the right people, including the fans, so it definitely works.
  5. Very good video package. Made me want to see more of both, so it did it's job.
  6. Great, great promo from DWB. He really gets the fire across without going into heel territory, which is hard to do.
  7. Great promo from Flair. I echo the concern over his wardrobe. It's just not Ric Flair at all.
  8. This was kind of like the Viper interview for me. Schticky wrestling fun. It's nothing brilliant, but I thought it was well-executed enough to work. The Sportatorium crowd, small as it might be, was buying into it too.
  9. This was pretty damn funny. I liked Craig's reactions to the Viper and the banter between the two just as silly wrestling fun.
  10. I for one enjoyed the matwork a lot, mostly due to how it was always work and not sitting in a hold for either. Kobashi's tactical error of giving up the controlling holds (he is well under Kawada at this point) and starting to try and beat him into submission is a key story point, so it's necessary to lay that groundwork first. Kawada on top and selling is great. The stretch run is tremendous and works up to the moonsault and powerbomb really well. So well that, having not seen this match in forever, I bit on the powerbomb nearfall. I did spot some awkward moments in the stretch run, but not near enough to bring it down very far. I would agree it's the best standalone singles match from 1992 so far even if it's not their absolute best. It doesn't hurt that 1992-1993 AJPW is my favorite era because the matwork still meant something.
  11. I really enjoyed Fujiwara's heeling here. The way he dumbed down his offense even more standing up and cowered away from any of Vales strikes was great. Great crowd to boot. Really good match and very unique.
  12. High Octane with the good building win. Sheik is a guy who can always piss off the fans. Oliver continues his unlikely babyface run. Oh man, I can't imagine this will help matters between Power and the Assassins. By the way, that would be a really good workrate feud. SBS busting Brickhouse open like that just ups the ante. I LOVE what you did on the 23rd with those tag matches. You tagged the heels from two singles feuds together against the faces from a tag feud. And the opposite. Then the tag feuds made sure to get involved in both matches. Good stuff there. Even sets up a tag match between the singles feud teams down the line. Oh man, Cooley pinning Fernandez when neither is the legal man is such a great finish. I can just hear DiBiase and the Twosome bitching already. Kerry with the good title defense. It's not quite on the level of the Funk and Nikita matches, but good match and it elevates Crews. Chris Youngblood can't quite prove himself against Crews. Honky with a nice squash. Link vs. Lewin!! St. Clair sure didn't look a gift horse in the mouth there. Good work keeping these feuds going without them facing one another on these two shows. Flame may be tough, but I'll give Bad News the edge in that match for sure. Big win for Casey with some help. I'm pretty sure that semi-main six man with the Honky run-in should have happened somewhere in Tennessee. Orndorff and Singh brawling with a sword involved. Gonna say that works. You always put on shows that would give fans probably double their money's worth. Not only that, but the way you handle a roster of guys that are not necessarily main event guys, with some notable exceptions, and give them things to do that would get them over is awesome. No wasted movement and everything builds towards something else. I told you a long while back that you needed to start finding your own way of doing things to shine and you ran farther with that than I ever could have anticipated. Great work all-around sir.
  13. Garvin talking himself into a corner is always something a crowd will love. Keith starting in on Bruce like that is definitely a sign of trouble. The battle of the Davises! Embry and Charland both with big wins. Gino stalling with the explanation, hmm. Bruce is finally getting to the point where he has enough of Keith. Maybe Owen too. Gantner proves to be a good loser. I will echo the likes for the "loser can't challenge" match. Dutch and Candido, what a team! A win for Martel, yes! Whoa, Invader 2 really killed Davis. Embry definitely needs something to do. He's too entertaining to be a midcard guy without a feud. Crews will be crowing about that win for sure. Brito is getting a bit of a push here. I like it. Rougeaus over the Harts, I'm sure that's going to go somewhere. Rough night for Medico 3. And I'm sure Garvin will put the blame squarely on him too, lol. The way you bring the entire NWA into your shows is such a huge boost for the game as a whole. It really gives a sense of teamwork and togetherness to the NWA that might not have actually existed, but it was fun to be a part of for sure.
  14. I like how MUTA is being put over in the States so far. Can't say I am super excited for Bravo/Atlas and the Russians. Maybe if Bravo is wrestling like he did in Lutte and not the WWF. Love the Rockers making sure everyone knows they are underdogs against the Horsemen, but they won't stop trying. The Harts and Demo should be a really good match. Nasties living up to their name, as they should. As always you kill it with the Horsemen. Great match between Hennig and Valentine with an even better post-match. When is the rematch? Savage with a great money promo to end the show and we are ready for SNME! The way you handle the WWF is absolutely awesome, from keeping all of the feuds hot to getting the tone right on the big promos to just finding the right way to build guys up. It's such an improvement on what the WWF actually did during that time. It's such a great mix of fantasy booking and the way things actually worked.
  15. I won't be continuing with the project. The recent change in formats for me was done out of a need to make things different for myself because it really felt like a chore writing for reasons not related to the length of my shows. For whatever reason I just wan't feeling it anymore. My original plan was to push through until September 20th, but not everything works out the way you want it to. It came time to write this weekend and I just wanted to do other things. I wish you all the best of luck. You're all fun to work with in something like this and I hope nobody thinks this is because of them.
  16. Great show open! Rich and Sawyer should be some kind of wild ride. Love seeing Riddle back home. Crews for the NWA title should be good. Power and Oliver get nice squash wins. What is next for Oliver? The Assassin as a manager to that stable is really effective on your midcard. Shieky baby is going to overpower Gantner? I don't know about that. SBS getting some revenge is a good direction to take. Can't have Brickhouse too far out ahead. Loved the promo from the Twosome and Ted. Good stuff from Kernodle and James J. and St. Clair. Gama and the Professor continue to have a great feud. I have this feeling HTM is going to feel that guitar again. This time at the hands of Austin Idol. Can Orndorff feud with TJS forever? Great tag between the Southern teams. The chaos during that last match seemed like it fit with Link and Lewin feuding. Looking forward to that 6-man for sure!
  17. That is one Hell of an opening match. I'm a big Smothers fan so seeing him anywhere is cool. Somers winning over MS-1 is actually kind of big for him. Nice squash for Savoldi. Good to see the Medicos give the SST a good fight. Big win for Borne! Martel needs to take some time off. Also big win for Davis. Garvin defending his title against Adias is a great Garvin title defense. No chance Garvin can lose.
  18. WWC House Show 8/24/86 Arecibo, Puerto Rico Ricky Santana & the Batten Twins vs. Owen Hart, Jonathan Boyd & the Crusher w/Barrabas Hart was in full on avoidance mode with Santana early. He would not get in the ring with him, but tried several times to ambush Santana unsuccessfully. Boyd got worked over by the Battens and Santana, then Owen caught Bart in the injured leg with a few kicks to turn things around. The heels worked over Bart's leg for some time. Bart did manage to just crawl to the corner after avoiding a few leg drops by the Crusher. Brad took the tag and cleaned house on Boyd and the Crusher. Santana clocked Owen Hart with a set of brass knuckles right in front of referee Tomas Marin and got his team DQed. Despite this, Boyd and the Crusher ran to the back with their tails between their legs followed closely by Brad and Santana. Brad and Santana returned to ringside to help Bart to the back, limping a little more than last week, while Owen had to wait for Chicky Starr and Abdullah Tamba to come collect him. Miguelito Perez & Super Medico 3 vs. Los Mercenarios Perez and Merc 2, still sporting bandages on their heads, both had easy targets for their opponents to exploit. And both teams did just that. Perez and Medico 3 went right after Merc 2's cut while referee Ricky Vargas herded Merc 1 into the corner. Merc 1 eventually got his partner out of there by grabbing Perez while he was running the ropes and giving Merc 2 the opportunity to do some clubbering. Both Mercs worked over Perez's cut for a while. Perez tagged to Medico 3 who cleaned house on the Mercs, who stalled for time. This just gave Perez time to recover and he came flying off the apron with an axe handle to knock Merc 1 into the railing. Things broke down from here and referee Vargas called for a DCO. The teams brawled to the back. Victor the Bodyguard & Chicky Starr vs. Invader 1 & Hercules Ayala Neither Ayala or Invader 1 were in the mood for Chicky's shenanigans and they dominated the opening third of the bout. Victor distracted Invader 1 while Chicky hit him low to turn the tide. Invader 1 was worked over for a long time with more than a few cutoffs by Chicky, only to finally tag Hercules. Ayala never moves too fast, but his big punches got the crowd rocking as he sent Victor and Chicky to the mat. He started working over Victor's leg and got the reverse figure four, but Chicky hit Ayala with the baseball bat and referee Victor Quinonez called for the DQ. Invader 1 ran Chicky and Victor off before tending to Ayala. Huracan Castillo Jr. vs. Super Medico 1 Medico was the first to have a real advantage, working over Castillo's arm. Castillo worked a headlock to control the more experienced Medico 1. The pace got quicker after a few rope running sequences with Medico 1 catching Castillo with his signature punch combo to take control and get a few nearfalls. Castillo came back and had some good chances on roll-ups before Medico reversed a roll-up for the 3 count. The two men shook hands and Medico raised Castillo's arm after the match. Ron Starr & Abdullah Tamba w/Chicky Starr vs. Jos LeDuc & Carlitos Colon Chicky tried getting involved right away, jumping up on the apron with a house mic and taunting LeDuc and Colon. This didn't get him anywhere as they just went after Ron and Tamba. After a short opening Tamba used his strength to overpower Colon before hitting a dropkick that sent Colon outside. LeDuc hit the ring, but Ron joined in and helped double team LeDuc as Chicky stomped away at Colon on the floor. Colon eventually fought Chicky off, which eased the pressure on LeDuc. LeDuc made a comeback on Tamba, even fighting off Ron long enough for Colon to take over. Tamba fell victim to a LeDuc one armed backbreaker for the three count. LeDuc made sure Chicky knew he had just beaten Tamba cleanly in the center of the ring as the heels retreated.
  19. Can Ams and the Youngbloods is a really fun young guy feud. Jake getting one-up on Piper's guys is a big deal. Hall gets a huge win over Rose. Guerreros and British Bullies is a super fun match. Dundee and Finlay is a sneaky good matchup if they mesh well. Tough luck for Adams with Race using a well-timed dirty move. Scorpio has been on the wrong end of a few matches lately, but he'll come back. Awesome tag brawl with the Herders and Badd Company. Good first challenger for Zenk. I like the youngsters going against the 6-man champs. Gives them ring time with three great workers. Steamer continues to be an awesome champ.
  20. WWC House Show 8/23/86 Yauco, Puerto Rico Bart Batten vs. Jonathan Boyd w/Barrabas Batten took the brawl right to energetic brawler Boyd from the opening bell. Boyd was caught slightly off-guard, but the match was pretty even. Until Barrabas distracted Bart and Boyd went after the same leg that got injured last week. Boyd worked on the leg with Bart fighting back as best he could. Boyd did hit the three point clothesline for the three. Barrabas ordered a further attack, which was thwarted by Brad Batten and Ricky Santana hitting the ring to run Boyd off. The Caribbean Express & Ricky Santana vs. Owen Hart & Los Mercenarios w/Chicky Starr Merc 2, Santana and Hart all came to the ring with bandages on their heads from earlier in the week. All three had them forciibly ripped off. Perez was bloodied as well in this match when Chicky hit him with the bat multiple times while Merc 1 distracted the referee. He did fight his way to tagging Santana. Both Santana and Castillo were in the ring clearing out the heels and Santana actually hit a plancha onto Chicky on the outside as he was yelling at referee Tomas Marin. Perez came back with a vengeance, hitting right hands on Merc 2 before sending him off the ropes and hitting a powerslam. Castillo followed that up with a missile dropkick for the three. Hart attacked Santana after the plancha on Chicky, but Santana got hold of Chicky's baseball bat and ran both Hart and Chicky off. Jos LeDuc & Dutch Mantell vs. Bobby Jaggers & Abdullah Tamba w/Chicky Starr If you guessed this was a brawl, you are right. But it did stay within the confines of a tag match. Mantell and Jaggers were both busted open the night before and went right after the same spot on one antoher. It didn't take long for both to bleed. Starr caught LeDuc with a baseball bat to the back from the apron as he was running the ropes and the heels worked him over. He made the tag to Dutch, but Chicky had Tamba well clear of the ring by the time a bloody Dutch Mantell hit the ring. Once Jaggers realized this he stopped trying to fight back and made a run for the exit with Dutch right on his heels. Invader 3 vs. Hercules Ayala Invader 3 again showed why he was the NWA LHW champ, this time hanging with the 270 pound veteran Ayala all match. Invader 3 showed his arsenal of high flying moves, strikes and submissions, using everything he could use on a bigger man. In the end he came up just short, but Ayala did not win with the reverse figure four. He won with an inside cradle after Invader 3 blocked a suplex attempt. The two men shook hands and Ayala raised Invader 3's arm after the match. Victor the Bodyguard & Los Primos Starr vs. Los Super Medicos & Carlitos Colon Medicos were after Chicky Starr before the bell and it was a team effort to work him over. Medico 3 fell victim to a Chicky low blow and the heels worked him over for a while. He tagged in Medico 1, who did a great job of cleaning house. He didn't account for Chicky being up as quickly as he was and grabbing his foot from the outside, which led to Ron hitting him with a brainbuster DDT. Both Colon and Medico 3 hit the ring and a mini-brawl ensued. When it was cleared up the heels were really working on Medico 1 and getting some close near-falls. He managed to tag Colon, who blew the roof off the building by taking on all 3 opponents and getting the figure four on Ron. Los Super Medicos hit the ring to protect Colon while he applied the submission. Referee Victor Quinonez called for the bell as Ron screamed in pain. Chicky checked on Ron after the match and screamed at the Medicos and Colon from the ring. Los Super Medicos and Colon celebrated with the fans on the way to the exit.
  21. Burke is always a good choice for working with the young guys. Ask and you shall receive with Furnas and the dropkick. Love seeing Kabuki win. Death Sentence continue to get a really good push. Adams vs. Taylor sounds like a great match! The Snakepit is making a comeback. I wonder how long it is until they go back after Piper and co. Tag title match would have been awesome. I like the focus on Bob Orton as a big star. He is definitely a guy who should have the spotlight.
  22. A few points to make. I think miz feels like he's being screwed with. He thought he was going to get the WWF for what, 4 days? Then things kind of go back and he can't, so he figures on going to WCCW. And gets told that isn't a good idea. By the guy who, regardless of the lack of malice, is the reason he won't be taking over the WWF. And the only person who was even worried about him taking over the WWF was me because I wanted Grimmas to have a shot at it if he wanted it. Whether or not he was made to feel this way intentionally is besides the point. And I can't fault him for taking it personally. Secondly, if you look at the UWF roster it's not exactly small and simple compared to the WCCW roster. Both have some major, major names that need upkeep while you bring the young guys along. It may be slightly less complicated than running that WCCW roster, but not near as much as the difference between both and what miz was working with in Portland. I promise you, we all took a hit dealing with this and would have even if we had known this outcome right as things initially happened. I understand the concerns brought up and appreciate that they are valid. Maybe giving miz a shot at WCCW and seeing how it goes isn't the worst idea.
  23. Bam Bam Bigelow Bob Backlund Bobby Fulton Bobby Jaggers Butch Miller Carlos Colon Chicky Starr Don Kent/Super Medico 3 Dutch Mantell Hercules Ayala Huracan Castillo Jr. Huracan Castillo Sr. - figurehead Invader 1 Invader 2 Invader 3 Jerry Morrow/Mercenario 2 Jonathan Boyd Jos LeDuc Juan Rivera/Savio Vega/TNT Luke Williams Miguelito Perez Miguel Perez Sr. - manager Ricky Santana Rip Morgan/the Crusher Ron Starr Steve Strong Super Medico 1 Tommy Rogers Victor Jovica Victor the Bodyguard Rickin Sanchez - announcer Hugo Savinovich - announcer Hector Moyano - announcer
  24. WWC House Show 8/22/86 Edwin "Puroco" Nolasco Coliseum, Coamo, Puerto Rico Miguel Perez & Dutch Mantell vs. Mercenario 2 & Bobby Jaggers Referee Tomas Marin had his hands full. This was called before the match reached 5 minutes in, but went almost 15. Perez busted Merc 2 open on the ring post and Jaggers took the riding crop to Dutch early on. A bloodied Dutch ended up catching Jaggers with a short lariat and repaying the riding crop attack (and blood). The match did finally get broken up by security, but it took a few tries. Ricky Santana vs. Jonathan Boyd w/Barrabas Santana comes out hot with his babyface technical offense. Boyd gets control after a Barrabas distraction. Boyd's energetic brawling and working over the cut from the night before keep Santana off balance for a while, but he fires up and comes back with chops and punches. Santana tries the flying crossbody, but Boyd rolls through and almost gets three. Boyd hits a few power moves befoer Santana rolls him up for the three. Barrabas orders Boyd to attack, but both Battens run out to make the save. Santana and the Battens shake hands after the match. Huracan Castillo Jr. vs. Owen Hart (C) w/Chicky Starr for the WWC Light Heavyweight Championship Big opportunity for Castillo and he makes the most of it early. Owen repeatedly tries to go to the eyes and can't seem to get a real advantage. A surprise leverage move by Owen shoots Castillo through the middle and second rope. Owen follows him out and makes sure he does enough damage to keep the advantage. Castillo makes a comeback and goes up top for the missile dropkick, but Owen shakes the ropes enough to cause Castillo to fall very uncomfortably. Owen hits a front suplex from the second turnbuckle for the three count. The crowd lets Hart know what they think of him as he shows off his belt on the way back. Victor the Bodyguard & Ron Starr w/Chicky Starr vs. Invader 2 & Carlitos Colon Invader 2 and Colon take the opening, with Colon falling victim to Ron'e eye rakes and a Victor low blow to give the heels control ofthe match. Colon makes the tag and Invader 2 is hitting big left hooks on both opponents. Until he is distracted by Chicky and Ron comes from behind with a low blow. The heels work Invader 2 over before he crawls between both of their legs for the tag. Colon has the crowd eating out of his hand and chases Ron outside. Chicky gets in the way and takes a right hand for his troubles. Invader 2 ducks a clothesline by Victor and catches him with the double throat chop as he comes off the ropes for the three. Chicky collects Victor as Ron and Colon brawl, Ron retreating to the back. Invader 2 and Colon drink in the appreciation of the fans. Mercenario 1 vs. Hercules Ayala Mercenario wants to brawl, but Ayala is aveteran brawler and can hang with him. He slows the pace down and goes to work on Merc 1's leg after getting control of the match. Merc 1 continues to try and brawl with Ayala, but Hercules simply goes back to the leg over and over. Merc 1 gets caught in the reverse figure four and tries to escape, but can't and referee Ricky Vargas calls for the bell. Abdullah Tamba & Chicky Starr vs. Jos LeDuc & Invader 1 This one is a barely controlled brawl with eveyone bleeding by the end. Chicky's baseball bat comes into play for both sides while the action spills out of the ring. LeDuc is simply clubbing Tamba with forearms over and over in the corner until Chicky comes over with the bat and catches LeDuc in the back with it several times. Tamba stumbles out of the corner and falls on LeDuc for the three count. Chicky celebrates, or tries to, but Invader 1 isn't having it and chases him out of the ring so he can attend to LeDuc. The fans pelt Chicky with garbage as he leads Tamba to the exit.
  25. I love the Guerreros continued success outside of 6-mans against Larry Z. Tough night for Dundee. But Blackwell is and always has been a beast. Bock proves to be as tricky and effective as ever. That Guerrero was able to hang with him that long puts him over. Sabu vs. Cactus always delivers the craziness. I liked the creativeness of the finish. Hall is really getting a chance to shine lately. Those dastardly Sheepherders won't leave Pat Tanaka alone. I wonder if Tanaka came in at 100% anyway after that last show. Piper and Orton are on fire lately. Man, you really pushed TNT right to the top. Not that having Ricky Steamboat as your champ ins't the perfect time for that. Steamer could get a good match out of anyone, even really young guys. And teach them a bunch along the way.
