  1. Yea Google hasn't added anything for a few years when they gave up on the idea (it was extremely expensive) to do the database. I'm surprised there aren't a couple publicly known historians that have kept track of Puerto Rican results over the years. I know the poster bunkhouse used to have access to a library in Florida that carried El Mundo on microfilm, and I know they had film dating back to the late 60's.
  2. Vince Russo started pushing the scripted promos more in 97' - 98'. However not everyone was using them, but they were used. On some of the SNME episodes some scripted interviews were suggested and used, but more for an outline of the promo. And that's how it started and grew from there. Some guys still don't use them, except for suggestions.
  3. I've done a little digging to see if there are any archives on line, but have not found anything yet. A few years back google had a good amount of papers in their system but the stopped for budget reasons. Some state libraries will carry international or national papers on microfilm.
  4. Yes it was Puerto Rico El Mundo. I'vee seen many clippings for upcoming events in them.
  5. Sorry it should read El Mundo.
  6. Does anyone here have access to Puerto Rican newspaper called El Mucho (I think it's called that). They used to cover the weekly cards during the 80's and had line ups. It would help out putting some dates to the matches. I know one of the major colleges in Florida carries microfilm.
  7. Plus remember Viacom was very public with their last dealings with Vince. They were not happy working with him, and they publicly pulled out of negotiations which forced WWE to go back to USA and get a weaker deal. Add to that the rumors of comcast possibly dropping WWE on PPV after Wrestlemania and how un happy they were with WWE's network being dropped in their lap they may not be an option.
  8. A highspot is simply a part of the match where the action has picked up. A highspot can just as easily be a headlock spot. Most of these definitions only exist outside of the business. But of course like every generation they will become intergrated with the younger generation.
  9. WWE does not want to move away from USA, these negotiations are just a ploy (and a smart one) to get USA/NBC to shell out more money. For WWE to move to a weaker network it would have to bring in revenue to make up for the loss in revenue for their other streams. Viewers, and a lot of them are extremely important to WWE. We've seen how being on a weaker network has affected UFC, they have had trouble creating new stars, and their PPV revenue is way down. For WWE going to a Fox Sports would cut into a huge chunk of their viewers, and that would cause less being spent on merch, house shows and even Network subscribers. People talk about how loyal the "WWE Universe" is but that is not the case. When WWE moved from USA to Spike they lost a lot of viewers and the product was much hotter than then now. A network switch can greatly hurt them in viewership. Of course if their offered 300 mil a year that would nulify their problems. (Short term)
  10. You would know more than I would, but is it truly possible that the guy was making _that_ much money? That's almost 4 million per year!!!!! Yes it's pretty close. Some quarters are better than others (Mania, Video Game, and European tour all bring huge money). A few years back during a time when he wasn't pushed nearly like he is now, Randy Orton was going through a divorce and his reported average monthly income was $292,000. And Orton wasn't pushed and featured like Punk had in over the last two years. As for merchandise, remember back during the "Summer of Punk" his merch flew off the shelves. And his t-shirt (the white one) was one of WWE's hottest selling shirts since Steve Austin.
  11. I don't know why he walked, but to walk away from $300,000+ a month it must have been major. For a guy who reportedly doesn't take medication it could have simply been a physical wear and tear. Or it could have to do with the day to day dealings with staff, which has changed a lot in the last few years. It's a complete corporate vibe among the staff and less of the locker room feel it once had. Dealing with the bureaucracy can be frustrating and so can the lack of character development. Like Steve Austin he may regret it, not just the loss of money (and Austin was pulling in more than Punk was). But I respect him for walking away and maintaining his silence.
  12. The better question is could WWE properly book a Japanese star. You can get anyone over by booking them right.
  13. Kawada and Misawa really didn't care for eachother at one point, but I think their locker room fight took place in 92? Also that is how Baba booked, he wanted those guys to fight for their spots.
  14. That makes sense El Boricua, I've cross referenced Flair's record book and his December of 1985 is pretty light so there a lot of open dates. The Colon & Invader I vs Sheepherders match is on youtube.
  15. It would be cool, but extremely unlikely for him to do a farewell match at Arena Mexico and Arena Coliseo, two buidlings his father helped open and help become famouse. I hope they announce the dates far in advance, I'd like to go to it.
  16. http://wrestlingclassics.com/.ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=138034 It sucks. I actually wrote a little piece about on wrestlingclassics message board. Not sure how to post pics here or a link.
  17. I believe so. It's on youtube , let me see if I can find the link.
  18. Really enjoy your rundowns guys, excellent job! When you get a chance I hope you can go over more in detail the whole Brody & Hansen vs Colon & Abby fued. It lead to the cage match which drew the largest crowd to this day ever in Puerto Rico of nearly 30,000 people. It often is reported as the Anniversary card for that year, but as pointed out their first meeting was at the Anniversary show. All three matches drew big crowds but the cage match turned away people on the floor! The Anniversary show drew close to 30,000 people. I sore I've seen the video on this, so I looked around youtube but couldn't find it. Maybe it's in my own tape library.
  19. I really really want to see this now even if my spanish isn't good enough to probably understand it. I really enjoyed the whole Hansen & Brody vs Colon & Abby deal. One match that I've look to find more info on is prior to their big cage match they did a regular tag match. Plus Brody & Hansen worked Colon & King Tonga that could have been a great match. Just the other day I came across a Flair versus Dusty Rhodes match from Bayamon. In the comment section people were speculating when I took place. Most believed it was in 1985. But I recall a conversation with Larry Matysik I had when I was helping him with his Brody book. He mentioned that Crocktt & Dusty came to the islands to meet with Joe Frazier about working Starrcade (84). Joe was on tour refereeing some Brody vs Carlos matches. Larry said (as he was Brody's confidant and close friend) that he believes it was in the spring of 84'. Since I'm a results mark I would love to come across a good source for dates of WWC cards.
