Where the Big Boys Play #65 - Great American Bash 91
UKWildcat replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I'm about halfway through and just a note on the Gibson-Morton match. Gibson was coming off ACL surgery, which is the reason for the brace (not sure if it was mentioned, may have missed it) Additionally, Morton completely ruined his time in the York Foundation. Granted, these days I'd cry if I went to watch a Morton match and he didnt have his mullet, but he should have ditched the mullet and bandanas and went with a yuppie look. Him keeping the mullet was saying "Yeah, this angle isn't going to last, so I'm keeping my old look when they turn me back" -

Is this the live Mid Atlantic show? -
You see alot in Chikara most definitely. But Chikara is a total comic book (that's not an insult to the promotion)

I believe after Liz's death, her mom basically cut off wrestling, didnt allow any wrestler's at the funeral, but its been ten years though

It's gotten positive buzz and has already recouped its budget, which was at $100 million (and brought in close to $120 million). You'll see it between 130-150.It wasn't going to be Guardians or Transformers, but I think it's respectable -

I think the Indy stuff is really getting flooded. The Indy stuff isn't my thing, but glad we've been able to get Styles, etc Not sure you've seen them, but if you want any created guys, feel free to browse my stuff https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/LegendsOfWrestlingBootlegs/info?prop=eupdate -
Ahh, sorry. I'm a big football guy, but don't have a fav team (only cheer for Kentucky in sports).

I gotta say, I love the love for Lance (and Memphis in General) on this board. What got me hooked was turning the channel one Saturday afternoon in 1981 and coming across the Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl 2. I basically never missed an episode for the next 16 years. I feel blessed that I got to see Lance week in and week out from 81 until the late 80s (when he left for WCW) and then returning in the 90s I remember my first card (Aug 3, 1982) and was bummed to find out Lance and Dave weren't at the Louisville shows. But reading over all of the great Lance quotes, can't argue with anything. He was the glue that held the show together week after week and someone you could trust with what he's saying

I've never seen someone suck the fun out of Colt Cabana during a podcast...until Jim Ross. I bet Colt checked his watch 50 times during that interview -
Haha, glad to see my photoshops made it here. Working by myself at night, I have tons of time to listen to podcasts. Started listening to Titans again and have TONS more from each episode. Yes, no life

I figured one of the Olsens since Vikings/Mid West and Dalton was an East coaster. And yes, I play the game religiously (like Mad Dog). Have created and drawn hundreds of bootleg Legends -

Yes, and I create many of the card stats for the LOW series. Cory or Chad? -

Agree. Being in Louisville, I was able to attend many OVW events during the time frame. I think the entire storyline with Basham, etc was well built. -

Yeah, what is the deal with Horner. I've seen a couple of Cornette shoots, but never recall the Horner hate. Anyone have the story? -
Goc read my mind as I was posting. Good post

Interesting take. I never got to see Gilbert and Marlin, but you could compare to Tommy's team with Eddie Gilbert vs Buddy and Ken Wayne
-
Really, he wasnt a spotlight in that feud, so it was hard to tell from that time. He was well behind the pecking order of the SMW guys while in tag matches teaming with guys like Landell and Smothers.

When the term "playing Ricky Morton" has made it into the wrestling vernacular, this is the correct answer. By the way, here's a clip when the opposite occurs as Robert Gibson plays Ricky Morton

For my first post on the board, since I grew up with Memphis wrestling in Louisville, it should be Memphis related. Granted, if you can find any pre79 stuff, that's great. But I agree with the sentiments of the others. 1979 is a great year to start with since I really think the Tupelo Concession Stand brawl truly set the tone for Jarrett. If you start in the USWA, you are missing a ton of fantastic stuff
