If VR actually ends up being a hit then it could mean that by that point technology has advanced enough that it could simulate being in the crowd watching the match.

After seeing that Patera hair I kind of want to change my ballot and put him Nr 1. That is magnificent.
-
It does not help that he punches exclusively with his right hand. I get dominant hand and everything but not even attempting to punch with your other hand is kind of ridiculous and I probably like the Rock more than most people here.

Oh sweet a new Titans theater that is a welcome unexpected birthday present.

Depends on wether we are talking about reality or WWE narrative. I am still holding out hope that it is Shawn and he just misses the list.
-
The way this is going makes me wonder if some of the guys that were seen as candidates for number 1 like Lawler and Terry Funk end up way lower on the list than expected.

I just like my wrestlers I picked and want them to do as well as possible. Do you think it's possible people are taking things a lot more seriously than us at this point? Probably because, while I do not think it was intended that way, listing the names of the Triple H votes came across like a very petty thing to do.

Tracking the 'Real' World Champion
van_Fair replied to kingliam's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Interesting idea and having the title change hands on DQ and countout adds an interesting wrinkle to it. It would be intersting to compare the results from this to the Linear Championship that the guys over at Voices of Wrestling are keeping track off, as that one only changes hands in 1on1 matches and not via DQ or Countout. http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/wwe-linear-championship/ -
Honestly I really don't like the tone this thread has taken in the last few days. It devolved from discussing peoples placement, who will end up where, who got under/overvalued, giving people ideas on what to watch next and poking fun at some of the oddball choices to senseless bitching about Triple H, because we don't have enough of that on the internet, and almost gleeful malicousness about certain people dropping off the list.

Wait, what's the name of that lucha guy OJ hates that threw a hooker of the balcony that had a great chain match vs. La Fiera? Wasn't he listed already? There is a hooker that had a great chain match with La Fiera?

BillThompson not being the high vote on Thatcher is probably the most shocking thing so far. Otherwise Sakuraba ranking ahead of Shibata sums up their careers quite nicely. I actually expected to be the high vote on the Dirty White Boy, but I at least had hoped he would make it onto the list itself.

That Sami Callihan picture sums up my thoughts on two of the last three rankings.

I already have my avatar of "shame" as I was right there with you on the bottom of the list, only I had Marty. But that Rush pic is so great that I actually wanted to use it. Unfortunately the file is too big so I can't use it as my avatar, so Beardbane Marty Scurll is staying.
-
Since I has Scurll as my vanity pick at 100 and was also the only one to rank him it happend pretty quickly for me. But the way this has gone so far I could have many different avatars if some votes had gone a little different. So far I was the high voter on: Cavernario for whom I am somehow not able to add pictures here and and I have a feeling the gallery is going to grow.

I'm thinking it's supposed to be Mr Hyde. Fits the whole good Fin and Demon Fin thing.

Official song is Aces of Spades. Probably the most obvious sign ever that Triple H is in charge of NXT.

Awesome news Honestly I was clicking on the thread fully expecting to find out it had been officially canceled. Looking forward to see who they will bring in for season 2.

I am all for more diversity in WWEs themes and I actually like a lot of their stuff that is objectively terrible. First and foremost the theme has to fit and enhance the character, that way the entrance can go a long was establishing the character to new viewers. Ric Flair and "Also sprach Zarathustra" are the perfect example of theme/character synergy, you hear that song, you see Flair and you immediately know what he is about. I don't buy the Rock establishes guys as asskickers narrative, Rick Rude came out to Smooth Operator and no one doubted he could beat someones ass. In general it is always interesting to see Lucha entrances because no one gives a shit about copy right in Mexico so the guys just come out to whatever theme they want. Though they leave them too much freedom sometimes and the people come out to really badly fitting themes. It is understandable that WWE almost exclusively uses their own stuff because of licensing, but they should branch out more. Maybe make that WWE's next failed outside business venture, sign a bunch of guys from different genres and make WWE Music into a proper Music Label. You can pick up some good themes that way and it can't loose them more money than WWE Films. As far as Funk/Soul/Disco as entrances goes nobody can convince me that "Papa was a rolling stone" wouldn't make an amazing theme.

Stone seems like one of those wrestlers who is very popular with the wrestlers themselves but can't connect with the audience in any way.

PTBN Reaction Show: New Japan Dominion 2015
van_Fair replied to soup23's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I don't think that's really true, most of their events seem to top out around 3 and a half hours. I think the reason Makabe is positioned prominently is because he's the biggest mainstream celebrity on the roster. He has a TV show and recently had a major role in the Japanese Mad Max dub (which is something of a big deal over there, I guess). I think that is an aspect of Makabe not too many people know about and one of the major reasons he is pushed so heavily despite his faults. When looking at his physique you might be surprised to hear that Makabe likes Dessert a lot. He even has a show on Japanese TV about it, in a pretty good timeslot on a big network too if i'm not mistaken To Japanese non-wrestling fans he is probably the most recognizable name on the roster. -
Ricochet formerly (probably) known as Prince Puma made his return to New Japan today. That is very much not good news for the future of Lucha Underground. New Japan was courting him pretty seriously last year and he picked the LU gig instead. This could just be a short term thing until LU starts filming the second season or it could mean the RIcochet does not think there will be a second season.

I also imagine him looking like he does now, when he came out of the womb. Bearded, chesthair, with the glasses on and holding up the four horsemen sign.

Someone watched a lot of old survivor series promos.

[Thought experiment] Imagine if the territories stay intact ...
van_Fair replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I agree that Orton is one guy whose development seems really stunted from the current era guys. But what sort of role do you see him playing in the territories? Main event travelling heel? NWA champ? Not disagreeing, necessarily, but I'm struggling to think of a similar guy that was a big star in previous eras. Who would be a point of comparison would you say? While it's from the dying days of the territories I think Mid to Late 80s Terry Funk would be a good comparison. Just a mean vicious bastard that comes in to destroy the punish the top face. Orton doesn't fit the mold of classical Monster Heel like Abby or Brody, but he does project a good amount of menace. Also like Funk he has the wrestling fundamentals to have great matches with just about any style of wrestler. Travelling NWA champ I could see talent wise, but I think his personality issues would prevent him from becoming the top NWA guy. Travelling Main Event Heel who doesn't overstay his welcome and occasionally burns a bridge seems like a fitting role for him.
