[Thought experiment] Imagine if the territories stay intact ...
van_Fair replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
One thing I always thought is that a guy like Randy Orton would benefit so much from this. Here is a guy with pretty much all the talent needed to become an all time great. But because he spent all of his career in one place in a comfortable spot in the card he stalled out big time. If the territories would still be there, he would have been sent on a seasoning tour early on to hone his craft. Afterwards he would have the opportunities to leave and freshen up his act. As Cornette is saying "We can't miss you if you aren't gone." I'd say in a territory system Orton could be one of the top 5 workers in the business today. -
The NWA revealed him as the newest inductee into their Hall of Fame.

If we were talking about a 100 list for the 90s he may have a chance to make the bottom 10. On an all time list though? No Chance.
-
I think it's because his moniker since the ECW days has been the King of Old School.

Just watched the 12-2-81 episode of Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling. First match was Barry Windham as Blackjack Mulligan Jr teaming with Jake Roberts against two jobbers. Both of them are are so skinny here, especially Jake Roberts when compared to later. Best match on the show was the at first rather random tag teams of Paul Jones and Buddy Landell vs Ole Anderson and Ray Stevens who was subbing for Gene Anderson for the tag belts. The match featured probably one of the best applications of the tag team partners that don't get along trope, resulting in a Ray Stevens face turn and him stealing one of the tag belts. Which led to the highlight of the show, a great Ray Stevens promo, cementing his face turn.

This might be the reason why he is happy with putting people over now and not getting pushed to the top. He arguably reached the highest possible point in his career last year. I also think he knows he might not have much longer as an active wrestler and since he is kinda old school he wants to put over as many guys as possible. Until injuries force him to retire. Which might be this year, might be 5, might be 10. We will see.

Wrestling's Best, Worst and Wackiest Music Videos
van_Fair replied to BruiserBrody's topic in Pro Wrestling
The Shawn Michaels Tribute video they made in 1995 after he died. What Shawn Michaels isn't dead? Well you have to excuse me because the video sure tried to convince me otherwise. -
Well I don't think I have to worry these guys not making it onto the list. But still some discussion is nice. They really perfected the art of the TV tag match. Just take this example from 1990 against the Steiners for the US tag titles. Stuff like that puts them on top for me. Not just do you have great stuff at big shows, you also have great matches almost every time they step in the ring, no matter the size of the show.

When is someone actually carried in a match?
van_Fair replied to BigBadMick's topic in Pro Wrestling
I think the real cases are generally the one where one of the guys is out of sorts either because of an injury or drugs and the other guy can keep the match together. Two of the more noticeable examples are Lawler vs Kerry from Superclash III and Brett vs Bulldog from Summerslam 92, where one half of the match was flying high as a kite and the other one had to pretty much literally carry them to a match. -
They also have a youtube show which features some matches or angles from their big shows. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIx3fjtDFHB-ild9Vsl_j5A

I really liked that Triple H vs Kevin Nash Ladder match from TLC 2011.

Your Wrestling Pet Perfections/ Utter Love

Midnight Express trying out new offense on some jobbers. Also Brock Lesnar in general then, now and forever -
I'll be very disappointed if Cool, Cocky and Bad doesn't at least make the Sweet 16. Also what kind of monster puts Enzo's theme and 3 Count in the same group forcing me to choose between them. As far as best theme ever. That is obviously the remixed version of the theme of a certain turkophob movie that happens to share it's name with the best Tag Team in wrestling history.

Apparently they are going to run monthly NXT specials from now on. I think that is a terrible idea.

Actually they do.

Hey remember when everyone was worried that Rollins would get lost in the shuffle when the Shield disolves. That he would end up as a midcard babyface competing in meaningless mulitman IC title ladder matches. While Top Heel Ambrose feuds with Reigns over the World Title. Anyway I fell asleep during the musical performances and I finally got around to watch the Main Event. I thought this was great. It was basically a WWE Style Ishii vs Makabe match. Two big pieces of meat stiffing each other.I loved the finishing sequence F5 into Spear into Curb Stomp.
-
It also says a lot about people fucking up Big Shows booking that this was the first Battle Royal he won in his 20 year career.
-
Great so I ended up watching the show anyway because I can't sleep and what is the first thing I see. Big Show winning. .... Ugh Up Next Bryan gets knocked out of the ladder match and is replaced by Sheamus.
-
Are any of the shows worth picking up on VOD?
-
To be fair given his behavior that might be exactly what he is.
-
I had never heard of him before today and the likelihood of encountering him on the shows I regularly listen to is slim. So he really holds no significance for me and if he turns up on one of the shows then I know I can safely skip it.
-
I usually enjoy the Main Event so I tried to get through this. But I had to tap out after 45 minutes. The point that the crowd not caring about Reigns is irrelevant because WWE says he is a star was just too much. Also if you come unto a wrestling podcast and seriously make the "you know it's scripted" argument with a straight face, all of your arguments immediately become invalid to me.

Unfortunately not but that sounds amazing. Is it easy to find?
