[2000-01-01-TWA-Total Impact TV] American Dragon vs Spanky
dkookypunk43 replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
I agree with the sediment that Spanky looked a bit more polished than Dragon here but it was a fun match to see where these two are now compared to what they could do back then. You could see the hunger and the desire for pro wrestling was apparent here. I felt that for the level they were at, it was a good modern cruiserweight match, you could see both guys' potential here. -

A seemingly simple question with many facets to it. Do you think WWE is a monopoly, Why or Why Not?

Why does puro get so much love? Why does lucha get so dismissed?
dkookypunk43 replied to Grimmas's topic in Pro Wrestling
I never really got the appeal of lucha because to me it looks more like choreographed dance than an actual fight unless you get into the brawls. Lucha to me is impressive but I don't get that same sense of gratification from it as I get from well done puro or American wrestling. It's just not for me and I understand that and I try to look at it from an open mind every time I watch a touted match. For me CMLL isn't very accessible outside its core audience and have no intentions of expanding to a broader audience. That's why I have always enjoyed AAA a bit better. What I will say is that Elite is doing a fantastic job making lucha feel more like a fight than dance. -
Meet the Press Slam Podcast Idea
dkookypunk43 replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I actually like what overbooked said, maybe what ESPN's Around the Horn does with a point system for topics is also good. I'm open to ideas, I'm always fiddling with concepts. -
Hey guys, I have an idea for a new podcast that I would need guests for. It would be called Meet the Press Slam. My premise is that it would be run like a Meet The Press style roundtable with various news pundits and what not. Each week I would have 3 or 4 different pundits on the show and we would debate 1 or 2 topics, issues or concerns within the wrestling world. Then I with the information given by the panelists will make a final verdict on the issue Some Topic Ideas Is WWE a monopoly? Are wrestlers being trained properly? Has WWE philosophy on smaller guys changed? Can a wrestler make a living without WWE? What is the role of selling in wrestling in this day and age? What is the Performance Center's impact on future generations? If you have a topic idea or want to be a guest, respond here or PM me or tweet me @GetintheRing123

PWO Pilot: Verdict of the All-Time Greats
dkookypunk43 replied to bradhindsight's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I'm honored to be even considered for a pilot, adjustments will be made to the show as I move forward. Should I keep the short format or add 2 or 3 more wrestlers to the 2 I already do per show. -
I thought the finish of Lesnar vs Goldberg was hilariously brilliant. The fact that Goldberg got the Lesnar rub is hilarious and the hardest I laughed in a long time. The brilliance of this move is that it makes Brock a human instead of this unbeatable monster, I don't think it would have had the same effect if it was Joe or Nakamura because the aura of Goldberg. Sometimes you have to sit back and enjoy where it is going. I think us being in the bubble we are in, we want to criticize everything WWE does. Does this have a long term gain? No, but WWE doesn't think long term anymore so I think it is a move they can get away with. The crowds have been hot for Goldberg and they went in the right direction because they want to ride this wave out and I don't blame them.

One idea I have is revolving the Greatest Wrestler Ever project and the wrestlers that made the list. Each week I would put each of the wrestlers in a randomizer, and do an overview of their career and choose one recommended match to live watch. I will incorporate comments made by members on the board and then come to a verdict. The title for the show would be Verdict of the All Time Greats. What would you think of that idea

I think John is way more consistent with his great matches than Bret ever was and the last two years have proven that to me. I feel that a lot of Bret's work is boring to me, I feel it's very slow and plodding to be frank. I think Bret is great at his style of match but can't adapt, Cena has had great matches with almost every opponent he's had including The Great Khali, JBL, Randy Orton, and other subpar workers. I feel Bret works to the level of his opponent which is a detriment when he faces bad wrestlers.

Greatest single year in pro wrestling history?
dkookypunk43 replied to Microstatistics's topic in Pro Wrestling
I'd say 1997 is the greatest year, The WWF, WCW and ECW were all red hot. THE Japanese wrestling scene was awesome with AJPW, NJPW, FMW and others -

I Feel Like Quitting Sometimes
dkookypunk43 replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I study who I think are great at doing a wrestling podcast (Like a Kris Zellner or you Joe Lanza) and I have good energy to the show. I don't know what I can change to take that next step, is it scaling back and doing a 1 hour show or is it the different concepts I try to keep people engaged. I am always experimenting with the show format and what I want to get done. Also I should be more active in the writing scene to get my podcast over. -
I Feel Like Quitting Sometimes
dkookypunk43 replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Yeah I was just mentally out of it yesterday, I feel like I have to change some elements of my show. I like doing the "This Week In Wrestling" model but that's not working. Maybe that live watch thing we have been doing would be something cool to do. -

I've been doing my show consistently for about two years now to varying degrees of success and I feel like quitting because I'm trying to find an audience, trying to prepare each week, I draw no live listeners, and it's become exhausting. I'm looking for advice to making a podcast successful. I know it really isn't about the numbers but when you had them and they have gone to almost nothing, it's really stressing me out.

My idea for wasn't for the weekly GITR to be on the thread. My idea was to brand my shows that I do with various pundits with a different name such as A Bird's Eye View of the Bubble or something like that where I interview various wrestling fans on the threads and pundits about their fandoms, what got them into wrestling, what got them into trading tapes, ect. I'm not looking to put my weekly show on the actual thread. What I am looking to do is to jumpstart this new project. Another Idea I had was a Live Watch show of various independent and classic matches and do background pieces around the match,. That podcast would run an hour to an hour and a half depending on length of match. Those are the two ideas I had
