I’m surprised things like sponsorship for the YouTube videos (becoming increasingly common now a days) as well as, if they are willing to think really outside the box, Patreon aren’t coming up as options. Online based options can be viable now.

This seems like the general take even among younger fans. I think more then anything it might say something about how wrestling promotions have been trying to reinvent the wheel for a while when something simple and to the point can still work just fine. Get guys who can cut some solid promos, put high priority on the titles, build from there. I think nostalgia at least partially got people to look into this, but using the structure of show I don’t think ever stopped being effective. If it did, not having been done in so long has turned it into a new way to present wrestling that gives people reason to care about the characters.

I think even looking past the “cosplay” elements (which I find groan worthy as a description, but whatever), it’s hard not to call there first episode a gigantic success. It’s going to break 150 thousand views on YouTube in less then a day. If it had gotten a third of that I’d have called it a solid opening. Not only that it’s getting tons more press then anyone expected, with even the Rock talking about it on twitter, were it was the No.1 trend in the US for a while yesterday. From what was any reasonable expectation for this, it surpassed them.

My view on NXT was my reason to be excited for NXT changed as time went on. It was originally the Sami Zayn show. Then as Zayn got hurt, and Owens, Balor and Joe struggled to maintain the top end stuff, the Horsewomen became NXT’s must see act, up until the final Bayley/Sasha match. That also took place as my next reason to watch NXT formed: The Revival year and a half as the best tag team on the planet, with good contributions from American Alpha and DIY. After that stretch with the women’s division kinda middling (Neither Asuka or Shayna’s Reigns have done much for me in spite of there talent), the main event finally gets going again with Andrade being a fucking machine with Zelina. But after that... yeah, not much. Black winning the title was not a bad decision, but the Gargano/Ciampa stuff sucked the life out of the fed to me, and the tag division wasn’t in any shape to recover it, and the women’s division hasn’t had a legit challenger I buy against Shayna since Sane. I also hate the Gargano/Cole series more then words can properly describe. Velveteen is good but not “forces me to tune in” good.

I dunno man. If it was against Smokes, hell yeah, that’s super racist. Nana literally ran a gimmick of being a prince of an African country he would claim to return too when not working shows, while running down how awful the American towns he worked were every show. He might literally be the only wrestling character I don’t buy that line being racist against, or at least arguable that Ox was at least just saying “go back to your kingdom” or something of that.
