  1. Never put a top babyface in a sleeper hold
  2. "The winners from last night" competing in a mini-tournament for #1 contendership. Not Brock though, he's mysteriously lost interest for some unexplained reason
  3. Nikki goes under-the-radar as a decent worker but none of you pedants spotted her turn around in the figure 4 and yet still immediately grasp for a rope? Keep up
  4. is Lesnar blading? the Mania cut you could see was just a knock he took but at Summerslam it was a very straight cut on the forehead
  5. Yeah, Brock is a cock-end. In fairness, he pretty much is the character he portrays and he doesn't give a solitary shit but like you say, he's an amazing performer but it's sad in a way to see how much verbal power he has, if anyone else couldn't identify a Wrestlemania they were in by their number (not like he was in shitloads of them, cmon) they would get slaughtered. Who else could basically get away with saying "yeah, I'd much rather still be in UFC if I could". Must be maddening for folks from whom wrestling has always been their #1 Stark contrast to the E&C cast which just seemed like old buddies having a great laugh, in this one Austin seemed a bit uneasy grasping for common ground with a socially-stunted weirdo like "so we're still going hunting some time ey?" Somehow I was a little surprised about his comments on breaking the streak as everything I'd heard suggested he was overwhelmed/nervous and didn't want to do it initially. So bit disappointing to see him give this ultra-nonchalant brush-off approach to the topic, as he did most wrestling things. Also full on admitted he was a bully as a kid and never really changed or learned much. Success story ey? #BeASTAR
  6. if we're lucky, there might be an actual storyline(!) in this Harper/Rowan thing. if we're very, very lucky.
  7. My format for judging has a fair few external factors obviously, the standard things such as psychology that makes sense + exciting/intense action + generally how much it moved me out of my seat whether with stunning moves or dramatic nearfalls (nearfalls that don't make me go 'oh, come on' anyway) + [if match is 'spot-fest' like a TLC, hardcore match or Ultimate X] how natural seeming, exhilarating and enjoyable were the spots/was the presumably immense risk worth taking But also backstory + crowd reaction + finish all will give or take away a significant amount. No point having Ishii v Honma for example infront of 50 bored folk, but 40k going absolutely wild is an incredible viewing experience. i would actually say crowd is one of the most very important factors to me when judging a match, I just love a hot wrestling crowd - those are the matches I actually Want to watch back and analyse what got the crowd to that state
  8. Angle v Mysterio at Summerslam '02 qualifies by a few seconds
  9. Ha! Learn something new every day. What's the usual reasoning behind that then?
  10. Gable's got loads more charisma than Haas or Shelton. E: oh you said Angle & Benjamin. Surely Angle is something to be aspired to? If he was in better shape he'd probably still be in WWE
  11. thats where the comparison between team sports and a scripted singles sport ends, surely. if you're not being selfish in a combat sport, good luck
  12. What's the issue with "Wrestlemania moment"? Say the football world cup is on, do players not want to get their world cup moment even though they play the sport each week? Wanting to do something on the biggest stage is pretty basic ambition
  13. Speaking as the husband of a woman who owns two Nikki Bella t-shirts - if Total Divas works to get women watching, the Bellas are going to be babyfaces. The show treats them as such (really, it treats almost everyone that way, other than Eva Marie and Summer Rae, when she was on). In some ways, Total Divas has given them the chance to do some more nuanced character building with the women. Whereas the women used to get no time to build a character - now they have a whole television show that has, over time, developed the on-screen personality of many of them, and could push them beyond more traditional face/heel dynamics. The Bellas are a good example - they can both do very unpleasant things on the show, but the overall response to them is positive, even if one may be positioned as in the wrong in a particular episode. Will WWE ever actually write to that level of nuance on Raw? Probably not. a big problem is that the women on Total Divas are nothing like their gimmicks on the actual wrestling show. It makes for a really strange dynamic where whatever crossover audience you get might show up to a show and cheer for someone they like on Total Divas even if it's totally inconsistent with the kind of reaction they're trying to get. yeah TD needs to be scrapped ASAP. More people buy into it, from a realism standpoint, than wrestling, so what does anybody get out of for example Ziggler horndogging on Nikki Bella other than make him look a pest?
  14. I love the way he "wanks off" to Eva's matches. She is going to be an amazing heel. I am salivating for the inevitable Bayley/Eva feud - I'm not even joking either. Full Sail will erupt with thunderous boos. How often do wrestlers get real heat anymore, especially in self-aware NXT? Eva has it. Maybe it's for the wrong reasons, but who cares? I just don't like the Lawler style drooling. I mean, he's not that level but he's not far at times with the women. I thought announcers were supposed to be subtle now. I've been iffy on colour commentators for ages tbh. don't get me wrong I enjoy a Heenan or anyone who is funny but just having someone who always crap all over babyfaces, encouraging people to cheer on heels, and rarely if ever gets any comeuppance seems kinda counter-productive
  15. Brock Lesnar guy is some lame mark who might do a funny face. The clown guy is an insufferable attention seeker. Izzy embodies everything Bayley is about, not the same fuckin ballpark. It's all real to her. I'm not saying it should persist forever and ever but c'monnnnnn. Jaded much?
  16. I don't understand this mindset at all. At fucking all. I'm not even normally an "awww, adorable kids" type of person but Izzy is like the embodiment of what Bayley is all about, and practically tells the damn stories on her own. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Izzy was a wrestler one day
  17. Chad Gable just looked like the biggest superstar, the crowd were so hot for him. The finish to that match was blinding even tho I was gutted with the outcome
  18. I think they can chill out on kayfabe breaking on shows after this point. Fans in the know will have likely heard Sasha on Y2J's podcast and seen the network shows etc. that we can go back to presenting traditionally (but better than that, obviously) Sasha's story really resonates with me, I feel almost as though I'm living vicariously through her. I'm female too, we're both 23, started watching at similar times, Eddie Guerrero was both of our first wrestling hero. I'm so proud of her for being 9 or fucking 10 and seeing the problem in the despicable women's presentation at the time. 04/05 were arguably worse than key attitude era years in that regard. So proud she never was gonna play by those rules, but she still adored what she watched nonetheless and was set out to do it Right. I'm somebody with no wrestling-watching pals, the stigma has well and truly fucked the brand in feminist/lefty/queer circles so I keep it to myself, my little solitary hobby but people like Sasha and Bayley make me want to grab my pals attention and be like "look! look at this awesome shit right here!" and hey maybe I'll give it a shot. If it continues to engage me who's as PC as anybody (if a bit drunk and sweary) then it can engage a whole new generation of fans. Can't complain about the kayfabe breaking whatsoever because it all should be put into context, but we all know what it's about by now, and until a time comes when they either main event a WWE show or have a 25 minute blinder on one - they can save this stuff. We shouldn't forget that this messy (Women's) Revolution is still so much better than what we've had in such recent times, but of course, it doesn't feel like enough, but we can put that down to the Raw team not putting nearly enough trust into/not knowing how to present all of it's immense talent it has at the moment, male or female. This is why, without wanting to sound like an ingrate because I can't help but mostly respect Vince, but I really cannot wait for him to step down as I don't think he's the man to take the company into it's next great era (if they have one in them) and hope for a real creative and presentation overhaul on main-brand shows. People complain about 3 hours, that it's a slog but I don't think it's the key issue, they just can't fill it with enough good things, which they have no excuse for in my view.
  19. haha pretty much. I think it should be toned down from this point on though, at least until they main-event a WWE main-brand show (sigh..)
  20. Really I think Corey Graves is the best colour man they have had since Bobby Heenan. I'm really mixed on Graves. On one hand he needs to stop wanking off to Eva matches, but sometimes I really enjoy his work. Great show, not quite Brooklyn for me but every time I look at the card lately and have high hopes for the NXT show and they've kept surpassing my expectations
  21. I'm not wholly on board with Dawson & Wilder either. Absolutely not against them but I assumed they were jobbers for a while, and can't figure out for the life of me why they got recent marquee wins over SAWFT and Vaudevillains. SAWFT missing another supercard is a big shame.
  22. Ah, I see. lol, that makes a lot more sense.
  23. Wait, getting a DQ in an iron man match gets you a point? Bloody wrestling logic
  24. I heard a rumour about Gargano and Ciampa being possible Balor Club members. I'll withhold my judgement/see how well they execute it, if they do. Bayley wins 2-1. It's only 30 minutes, so we don't want too many falls Gable & Jordan to win tag tournament Asuka slays them fools, obviously Probably a Crews win, but I'd like to see Breeze win Bit of a low key card to follow Brooklyn but that was always gonna be a tough act to follow
  25. considering they've announced both an Al Snow scaffold match, and had Tigre Uno v Gail Kim for the right to face Abyss in a barbed wire match, I doubt it.
