  1. Whoa this kind of blew my mind. Super shocking image, even with just the bandages on Jake. He looked like a war veteran. Then the reveal of the eye.... Jake is doing a great job with this.
  2. What I wouldn't give to see Vince in lederhosen. Really disappointing he wouldn't play ball with this one.
  3. Paul Ordnorff is no longer in WCW, and here he's vowing revenge on Dr. Death. Again, fine enough promo, the UWF stuff is just coming off very dry.
  4. This was a fine enough promo, I don't have too much to say about it really.
  5. I don't know, I didn't think this was that bad. It was kind of budget looking, but whatever, it's a cheap tactic to set up a match. I'm okay with it.
  6. Awesome promo by Boss Man. The crowd is behind him and he's fired up about his mom. I really liked this.
  7. The stupid wig stuff totally brings Warrior down to a petty babyface picking on someone. I don't want the Ultimate Warrior humanized at all. I want spaceships and cosmos and livers and whatever he talks about. Stupid segment, but Martel is so good.
  8. There's a perfectly timed spot where Mean Mark hits a big boot right as the drum hit into the chorus starts. Mean Mark looks awesome in this video, and the song works really well. One of my favorite Memphis music videos of the year actually, maybe second behind Dundee driving in his car.
  9. Dustin Rhodes is here?! Checking out the action huh? I didnt like this match but the crowd was wild for this so what do I know? All power guys here, and I think they played it up well.
  10. I didn't think much of the match but I've been really enjoying sammartinos commentary.
  11. This is a really good angle. I knew Dustin flirted with WWF at this time but didn't know any specifics. Pretty crazy he bleeds here. The match is really heated and works well. I really like Dusty being more serious here, and crying over Dustin at the end.
  12. My 2nd favorite 6 man behind the May match, although this one is probably better. Jumbo really delivers the goods early on and looks strong and mean. I really liked the Kawada/Taue stuff and I'm looking forward to an eventual singles match between them. Taue looked really good here. There was a moment when he was trying to do the sumo push thing and Misawa just strips him short and levels him. Taue looks exhausted and desperate trying it and just gets creamed. Fuchi destroys Kobashi's nose and Kobashi shows early signs of that great fire of his. Great match.
  13. Loved Martel's "apology" here. He's been pretty impressive as a heel so far, at least outside the ring.
  14. Going into this I was wondering how it would play out, since I couldn't really see the Steiners bumping and selling like death for the Midnights. Turns out that didn't matter at all because Beautiful Bobby bumped and sold enough for all 4 men. Great match. I didn't think the Steiners were using the Steiner Bulldog for a finisher at this point, but I still didn't care for seeing it that early in the match. The Midnights managed to get some good looking offense in as well, and I thought Sweet Stan's kicks looked especially good in this match.
  15. I was going to say it feels like Kobashi hasn't quite been elevated to the level of the other 3 yet, but then he comes off as a pretty big deal here, so nevermind I guess. I'm wondering when he kind of joins the other guys permanently. I was expecting kind of a squash here by Jumbo and Taue, but that's not what happened. Pretty good match, obviously not on the level of the previous big tag, and not as good as the Fantastics match either, but another cool one to add to the Ace/Kobashi run. Also, Ace looked good again here!
  16. This and the Lawler/Funk semi-final combined might be my favorite segments of the entire year. I don't know how many times I've said "Jerry Lawler is a genius in these threads, but man is it true. Just about the best comeback I've ever seen, starting with the multiple kickouts. And him just lying dead in the ring while Austin Idol steps on his neck. The crowd was going crazy too. This was an unexpectedly awesome tournament.
  17. This was incredible. Funk's "Pig" stuff and the punches were totally unbelievable. And Lawler's selling through all of this was just as good. The instincts kicking in at the end. I don't know where 1990 Jerry Lawler ranks in terms of his best work, but I can't imagine how he could be any better.
  18. I missed the finish at first, glad they showed a replay. I'm split between this and the Funk/Brown match as my favorite, but I really liked the finish here.
  19. I really like the opening stand off and missed punches into the eye poke. I think my expectations were a bit high for this match, but it was still pretty good.
  20. Decent clip. Not as good as the full matches so far, but it gets the job done.
  21. I liked this one too. A bit more technical than were used to seeing here, and that's not a bad thing. I'm really having trouble getting behind Jarrett, but Eddie Gilbert is really good. Kind of a lame finish, but I'm not too annoyed.
  22. Undertaker looks really big and ripped here. Really athletic too. This was a pretty good match. This tournament is really interesting to me in that I generally think of tournaments more in the "pure sports build" realm, where Memphis is way more based on storylines and angles. They've managed to weave storyline stuff into this but there's still some standalone matches like this one. I'm digging this so far.
  23. Come on, how is Terry Funk so good? Him selling the spit and the crowd stuff, just so good.
  24. Hahah ooookay. The name was fine enough but the newsletter at the end? Come on now. I did really enjoy Bruno though.
  25. It seems like at this point Rick Martel is kind of the Ed McMahon to Brother Love's Johnny Carson, which is really funny. Never seen any of this before, but I'm aware of the feud. Another great moment is Martel spraying Arrogance at Jake as he walks up.
