[1990-03-31-USWA-Championship Sports] Interview: Jerry Lawler
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
The line between a bullying delusional heel and burial is a tough one for me to distinguish. I can see how insulting something about a person that is generally seen a positive attribute (muscles in this case) could be effective for a heel to do, since it shows him to be jealous and petty. But at the same time, attacking what might be the face's only positive attribute and calling them stupid can be counterproductive. I don't know, after seeing the Mike Awesome promo after this it really makes Awesome look bad.- 13 replies

[1990-03-24-WWF-Superstars] Jesse Ventura picks a winner
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
This actually has me really excited to see the clip titled "Jesse Ventura makes up his mind." -
[1990-03-31-WWF-Superstars] Wrestlemania VI Report w/Gene Okerlund
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
Genes eyes look messed up. Whoa Robert Goulet is performing! Hahahaha. I've never seen this show, I'm very excited. Edit: Genes eyes look like he's wearing those glasses with the open eyes painted on so he can nap. He looks like a freak. -
Sherri is so brutal. It's awesome how she's able to upstage The Macho Man and Brother Love. These segments feel like David Lynch directed them, this one especially with Sherri freaking out. Droning in the background from the crowd, blown out colors, incoherent dialogue.

[1990-03-31-WWF-Superstars] Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior promos
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
If I'm fantasy booking this feud, it would have been based around Hogan and Warrior getting power crystals and seeing who could charge up to the highest vibration, brother.- 10 replies

[1990-03-31-WWF-Superstars] Hart Foundation and Demolition

Vince makes a mistake. He says Sacramento is the "tomato capital of the world" when in fact he should have said it is the "deadbeat wastoid capital of the world." -
Okay, I wondered why Filler and Lee were still together, but I read above and get it now. This feels like maybe the first "real" match from USWA/Memphis. It sticks out for that reason. Robert Fuller is cool.

[1990-03-30-USWA Texas] Jimmy Valiant vs Billy Joe Travis
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
This is my favorite match from the company so far. Honestly, I can't tell when it's Memphis and when it's Texas, so it's all just "Memphis" to me. I thought Terrence Garvin was a lady from the crowd and he and Billy Jo were kissing at one point, so it was just everyone kissing all over the place. Great less is more match here, fully entertaining and great and completely useless from an in ring perspective, which is a compliment.- 16 replies

A+++, always perfect. -
I've never heard this song before. It's Duran Duran? Doesn't quite sound like Simon LeBon. Not as good as Dundee driving around town though, but his dance was cool.

[1990-03-24-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Interview: Sting
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
Sting's eyes are part of what makes him look so stupid when he's fired up. Just googly and out of it. -

Z Man and Flyin Bryan are in to steal the belts! I haven't watched the match between the two teams in a very long time, before my unconditional love of the Z Man so I can't wait to see the match.

[1990-03-24-NWA-Worldwide] Ric Flair vs Ricky Morton
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
Awesome roll reversal. Great use of experimenting with the rolls within a traditional match structure like this. Ricky's scrappy punches are great. There's a great shot at one point where Morton is laying on the mat and his hair is spread out, an it looks like he's laying in a pool of Predator blood.- 12 replies

[1990-03-23-NWA-Power Hour] Eddie Gilbert vs Cactus Jack
drew wardlaw replied to Loss's topic in March 1990
Always cool to see Cactus wrestling, and I love TV time limit draws, but it's such a bummer when the announcers and time keepers aren't consistent with calling the time. Just announce the time in every match, and it keeps GMC off that phone of his.- 11 replies

I've heard El Dandy is one of the best in the world in 1990 so it'll be cool to watch the upcoming matches of his. It's a cool aspect of lucha that it seems like the alignments are common knowledge that's presented to the audience rather than implied by actions and promos. So with that said, I guess El Dandy is becoming a rudo here? I picked up on that but honestly I was just confused and thought I missed something before reading this thread. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with understanding lucha. It just feels SO foreign to me. But I've watched luchadores in Mexico and the U.S. and stuff so I don't know. It is very stylized and maybe that combined with the cultural barrier just makes it more difficult.

Alright a cool progression in the feud, this was a satisfying match. Adams obviously is talented and Austin looked good and it was cool to see them have a more straight forward match despite the implications of the stipulation.

This is my favorite lucha match so far. The pacing and arm work felt a bit more comfortable to me. The 2/3 falls still throws me off because they aren't really built like American 2/3 falls matches are, so that's still a struggle, but I feel like I'm learning. Jerry Estrada seemed out of his mind at times, and I've heard people say that he was s guy who really struggled with things outside the ring, but he was good and took some gnarly bumps. Cool.

I've been doing a re-watch of '97 WCW and WWF on a week-to-week basis since sometime last year. And I *just* saw that segment a few months ago. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it went down on a PPV - SuperBrawl or Uncensored maybe? Somewhere around that time frame. ... ... ... Modern wrestling needs a new Mean Gene. Absolutely unafraid to push buttons in interviews, telling fans to get their parents permission to subscribe to his YouTube channel, plugging his Twitter feed, constantly making crass comments on the air, and just generally wandering to ringside every now & then to catch a "scoop" as soon as a match is wrapping up.

I can see where you're coming from, but I'd say their partnership with the Komen group is worse. Those people trying to bully others about breast cancer is about as scummy as it gets. I forgot about the Koman stuff. Yeah I think I agree with you.
