  1. I've been watching the NWA shows on the Network, and how about this, Jimmy Valiant is still dancing and is still over. Good for him.
  2. This stinks. I was getting stoked when Sullivan talked about them being the guys turn the limo over, but then it quickly falls apart. I would have preferred a nice relaxing conversation on Funk's Grill.
  3. The first half of 1990 for All Japan is a weird time. It's kind of a lost few months in between Jumbo vs Tenryu and Jumbo vs Misawa. I did really like the short brawl Doc and Jumbo had towards the end, that was good.
  4. Aguayo looked huge here, I liked the spot on the first fall when they're brawling in the crowd and you can't really see anything until a row of chairs pops up and crashes down on Hamada. I always like a ground game vs high flyer story, but with the confusion of the ref bump, me not knowing if it was a 2/3 falls match, the dead crowd, and hand held camera it didn't hold my attention too well.
  5. I had my own narrative for this match and the drama was built around if Asai was going to try the moonsault off the loosey goosey ropes and die. So I actually really liked this was the moonsault was part of the finish and really kept my on the edge of my seat the whole time.
  6. YES. The first time I saw this match was post-WCW closing, so I had years of perspective, and it was totally a lightbulb going off in my head that this is why Sting trusted Lex after getting duped and turned on year after year.
  7. First off, nothing gets me STOKED like the Midnights strutting down the ramp in those robes to their post-disco synth theme. As a side note, Coast to Coast AM used to use that song as bumper music, so frequently I would wake up in the middle of the night after falling asleep with the radio on to the sound of Beautiful Bobby about to give a right hand to some chump. 1990 was a really great year for WCW tag team wrestling, and this is the big one that starts the year off. This is also the swan song for MX vs R n' R proper. I always go back and forth between this and the MX vs Southern Boys match from the summer. I generally choose this one, but we'll see. Honestly, this is my favorite MX vs R'n'R match. I've seen a decent amount, but this was the first one that I saw, and I can't deny my nostalgia for it. I love seeing what can be done within a very traditional formula. You've got Cornette throwing hands and flopping on the apron, Eaton delivering awesome right hands and high impact offense, Sweet Stan delivering some patented karate maneuvers, Morton taking one of the best beatings of his career (like someone else said, the hope spots are absolutely heart-wrenching, and Gibson showing tons of heart. To make a musical comparison, it's maybe like 80's King Crimson or something, adding a lot of depth and skill to a very pop oriented formula. Just a great, feel good match, and one of my all time favorites.
  8. This is my favorite of the 3 I think. Ideally they would have done kind of an ultimate version of all three raps for the ppv opening, but oh well.
  9. This sounds like a David Lynch movie. I dig it.
  10. I can barely understand any of this. My wife is sleeping in the other room so I can't turn it up too loud. Paul E looks real sleazy here. I don't know what else is going on.
  11. Interesting choice having small dogs. I guess it makes Rick look like a BIG DOG. I wish they would have had the dogs in the shoes.
  12. Hawk saying "Roos" got me really good. Them smashing some car in the dead of night, and a deadpan answer to a question about shoes. Great commercial.
  13. Lex is impressive here standing tall in the ring surrounded by the Horsemen. Fascinating that WCW was able to get Luger over as a heel and a face so many times, and WWF could do neither.
  14. This episode has been great. Lawler as a roving marauder totally enhances the joking around he does, and vice versa.
  15. The King goes wild and leaves some bodies in his path. I hope it was worth it Jimmy Valiant....
  16. Hahaha Wilson Phillips to start disc 5. Honestly, I just now realized that all these songs are from 1990.... Anyway, back to back huge angles. Dave Brown is very nonplussed by the whole thing, and who can blame him? At this point he's like a veteran police officer who has just seen it all. Kerry comes off as such a dumb jock here, it's awesome. Like pure stereotype, with the relaxed fit jeans and mid-drift shirt. "Happy birthday." This might be my favorite Lawler promo so far actually, I love when he just turns it on and gets serious, then all of a sudden it's Nate with McDonald's. Great segment.
  17. I'm a big fan of that 6 man from November 85. Cool start to their NWA stuff.
  18. I just rewatched this a couple weeks ago and it didn't feel like Piper was going into business for himself. To me it just felt like he went off on a rant and got lost along the way.
  19. Whoa just after the Jericho/Chono match there is a photo montage of mailed in entries for the "Miss NWO" contest. No exaggeration, this is the bleakest thing I've ever seen in a wrestling show.
  20. Juxtapose this show with the Royal Rumble from this year and the two companies couldn't be further apart. However, nwo is supposed to be this anti-authoritarian badass gang but they are escorted by small town Midwest cops on publically funded dump trucks. Ehhhhhh
  21. Oh man Beautiful Bobby working security! Totally riding the GAB train but that didn't take too much away from the match. Still a fun match and Benoit going down the stairs was the craziest spot of their whole series I'd say.
  22. Agreed, I liked this one better. More intensity, and I liked that the finish built off the finish from the Starrcade match.
  23. Lots of good tv in 1992. 93 too but I've seen less of it. There's a Windham vs Arn 2/3 falls match in like June or something that is unreal.
