Week 44, 1986 Highlights from the show on Superstation 17: -Show starts with a video montage from Halloween Havoc and the audience is shown that we have new NWA World Tag Team Champions as Ole & Arn Anderson defeat Ted Dibiase & Dr. Death and that the new NWA World Champion is Hacksaw Butch Reed who survived the one night 16-man tournament to win the vacated title. - NWA President, Cowboy Bill Watts, comes on to not only congratulate the new champions but he announces this week in the Sam Houston Coliseum, Ted Dibiase and Dr. Death will get their rematch against the Andersons and that there will be a 3-man elimination match to determine who will get a crack at Hacksaw Butch Reed the following week at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. The 3 men be the NWA North American Champion, Jake “the Snake” Roberts, Bad News Allen, and Dick Murdoch. -Watts also goes on to explain that the NWA has completed its investigation into the whole bounty thing involving Precious and Scott Casey and that it has been determined that Precious did indeed place a $25,000 bounty in the career of Scott Casey and that Precious has been suspended for 30 days. It has also been determined that Tojo Yamamota, Rip Oliver and Kendo Nagasaski attempted to collect that bounty and have been fined the sum of $1,000 each and have been suspended for 10 days. -The Rock n Roll RPM’s continued to push the buttons of the fans as they boasted about how they are the best Rock n Roll Tag Team in all of wrestling today and that soon they will be champions. -Ernie Ladd came on the air and paid his $3,000 fine ALL in Pennies and said that while “The Big Dum President Watts doesn’t get it, maybe he could learn something from one that did and now he has 3000 chances to look at Abraham Lincoln and learn. -Hacksaw Butch Reed gives a very humble interview about what it means to be the first ever black NWA champion! Sam Houston Coliseum: Houston, TX November 7, 1986 Ricky Gibson defeats The Cuban Assassin with the cross-body block The Rock n Roll RPM’s defeat Johnny Mantell & Cajun Joey Jackson with a double dropkick on Jackson. Interesting thing here was that the RPM’s seemed to be having words with Ricky Gibson as he was leaving, and they were coming. Koko Ware defeats Iron Mike Sharpe with a top rope diving elbow The Mighty Yankee defeats Rufus Jones with help from the Masked Yankee Superstar Challenge Challengers get not only the titles but $50,000 of Sheik Adnan Al Kassie’s money if they win the Mid-South Tag Team Titles: The Masked Superstars defeat The Patriots (U.S. Steel & Todd Champion) when the Superstars hit the back-breaker/elbow drop combo on Champion. The interesting thing here was that Todd Champion started the match well and seemed to want to be the hero and never tagged in U.S. Steel. Steel was fuming when the match was over but the two left together. Mid-South Title Match Rocky Johnson © defeats Bad LeRoy Brown by DQ with Ernie Ladd as the ref caught Brown connecting with a punch while having three rolls of pennies in his hand. Texas Street Fight Match The Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin) vs Terry Gordy & Scott Casey with Sunshine is a brawl from beginning to end. We see Sunshine do here best to get Jimmy Garvin to lose his focus and it even looked like at one point she blew him a kiss. The problem for the babyfaces here was that inexperienced ref, Carl Fergie seemed to be in over his head and lost focus numerous times. The worst was as he was trying to untangle Michael Hayes from the ropes, Buddy Roberts came off the top rope with a chair shot to the neck of Casey. Gordy tried to go after Buddy for a moment, but this only gave Fast Count Fergie the chance to make the quick 1-2-3 for the heels. NWA World Tag Team Title Match The Andersons © defeat Ted Dibiase & Dr. Death Steve Williams in a wild, physical bout. The end saw Ted Dibiase doing a great job of playing the face in peril and eventually fighting his way out. As he went to make the tag, Arn Anderson, who was not in the ring at the time, saw Dibiase making his move and he sprinted around the ring and pulled Dr. Death off the apron just as Dibiase lunged from the tag. Ole tossed Dibiase back into their corner, tagged in Arn who connected with the Spine Buster and that was all she wrote. Dibiase seemed confused after the match at what happened to Dr. Death on the tag attempt. Main Event: 3-Man Elimination Match: Winner gets an NWA Title Shot Next Week Jake “The Snake” Roberts” with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie vs Bad News Allen with Ernie Ladd vs Dick Murdoch The problem here is that Roberts and Bad News make some sort of deal to defeat Dick Murdoch first and they make quick tags to each other and refuse to tag in when Murdoch asks for help. Murdoch starts off fine but eventually the numbers game gets to him and he is in a lot of trouble but he keeps finding someway to kick out. The two managers are getting more and more frustrated. Snake tossed Murdoch out of the ring where Hercules Ayala attempts to clobber him with the Million Dollar Briefcase. The crowd erupts as Hacksaw Butch Reed rushed the ring and grabs the briefcase and clobbers Ayala with it. Murdoch seems inspired by Reed and he is back in the ring like a house a fire. All 3 men are brawling in the ring… You here Butch Reed yell, “Look Out” and Murdoch ducks just in time as Bad News clobbers Jake “The Snake” and he is out cold. The problem was that the ref saw it and calls for the DQ on Bad News Allen. Again, Ladd is screaming that Reed just hit someone with a briefcase and nothing happened, but it doesn’t matter… Bad News is out. Murdoch now simple covers Roberts who is out cold and he is the winner. Reed jumps in the ring and congratulates his buddy and they take the house mic and promise to give it their all to beat the crap out of each other next week in New Orleans and may the better man win!

Mid-South release Bob Roop. He retires in Jan. and might have time for a quick angle for someone.

Really well put together set of shows. The Houston County Farm Center show was great. I love how you use these elimination matches and continue to fin ways to keep everyone looking good. Travis hitting Brad gets them out with no harm down to their characters and then we get some outside interference in the end so everyone looks good in the end. Nice job. Fun to see Johnny and Rich not helping Tommy. Can't wait to see what is next here. That main event was pure chaos. I admit I had to read it a few times to get it all figured with who was helping and hitting Ron or Rob Fuller but once I got it, it was awesome. Good job getting some of the other talent on the spot shows to see how the crowd reacts to them. It looks like you have some plans for Furnas!

MACW keeps on rolling with very realistic house shows! I am enjoying how you are giving us some many compeitive matches where the outcome is not know just be reading who is wrestling. It makes it a fun read for me. Benoit vs Michaels might have been the best match on the card as they continue to grow into superstars. -
Looking forward to Wendy Richter's comlete blow up which could come at any moment! Fun angle.
-
Great show where you really pushed the limits with some of the promos with Slick. I think that is wrestling at its best. To me, wrestling is much more political than you think and always finds a way to invilve itself in the hot button topics of the day. Crispy Col. Sanders was awesome! Speaking of pushing bottons... Wildfire and the Car pool comment about T.A.! Wow. I enjoy the Fiesta Garden everyweek but loved the Exotic Garden this week!
-
Awesome event! Well done. I like all the small touches like Capetta and Whitney. Hope we still made some money here after paying everyone. I think we need to sell this one on VHS to keep the money rolling in. I like how Tommy Rich continued to push buttons and become the biggest heel in the NWA! Big win for the Andersons! Dr. Death and Dibiase need to get on the same page for the rematch. We need to find some stiffer competition for Embry. He is on quite a roll. Congrats to Butch Reed! He has a lot of tough challenges coming up. Thanks for all your hard work.

Wrestling is always more fun when the unexptected happens. The result of the first tag match shocked me!! Richter might have been justified in the after-match attack. Huge win for Velvet and Madusa. You are doing an awseome slow play of Madusa's transformation. Combs is lucky that was Moretti's second match of the night. I am glad that the belts are not on one person anymore as now we can add another feud to the great world of WWW

Superclash is going to be great. Love this time of year in Dawn of Year with all the big shows. Good interviews with Steamboat and Colon. I also enjoyed the Bockwinkle segment with Garvin stepping up. This will really elevate one of the two. Larry Z/Perez with a big win. They would make great champs becasue they can really get some major heat. Awesome job with the Priceless. Who did they pay off to get that team ranked in the top 10. Also they won't last long in the AWA if they are out of shape. Loooking forward to seeing what is next. Excited to see more Lawler/Idol!!!! I still have a funny feeling the Fabs and RnR Express are going the distance.

Maybe the best show of MACW yet. Your promos were spot on. I could here Ole in every word you wrote. Same with Macho Man. You did a great job with the build of between the Andersons and Dibiase/Dr. Death. Can't wait for that match! Last Hope Battle Royal was a fun read. Snake has a real shot at this title! I like how Caudle and TS seemed fine with Solie doing the big show. I bet they were boiling underneath. Can't wait for Halloween Havoc -
The looks awesome!! Can't wait.

I will add him to your roster. Thanks for the find.

October 28, 1986 Wrestling News Last night in the Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria, Louisiana, Jake “The Snake” Roberts defeated Hacksaw Butch Reed to become the NWA North American Champion for the second time. Robert’s manager, Sheik Adnan Al Kassie and his bodyguard Hercules Ayala got involved numerous times and referee, Carl Fergie failed to keep control. It appeared Reed was going to successfully defend his title after he connected with a top-rope shoulder smash but the Sheik jumped up on the apron and Carl Fergie stopped his 3-count to reprimand the Arabian manager. While Fergie dealt with the Sheik, Hercules Ayala came off the top rope and hit Hacksaw with a briefcase so hard, he was knocked out cold. Fergie turned around just as Ayala exited the ring and made what many fans called a fast 3 count. After the match, Butch Reed was angry but said he had no time to hang his head as he was off to Atlanta to wrestle at Halloween Havoc where he was going to do his best to bring the NWA World Title back to Mid-South Wrestling. Sheik Adnan Al Kassie and Jake Roberts were less than humble and claimed that Jake Roberts would have won the title a long time ago if it weren’t for that incompetent Jos Leduc. Like Butch Reed, Jake Roberts is also off to wrestle at Halloween Havoc where he will attempt to become a double champion. Other Mid-South Wrestlers heading to Halloween Havoc include “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin, Freebird Michael Hayes, “Captain Redneck” Dick Murdoch and “Soul Man” Rocky Johnson.

Great set of house shows!! Again, your main event sells the tickets. You have created such a roster that you can divide it in 3 and still have huge matches on each card. I could see Flair vs Savage going on for months! -
Looking forward to Battleground! Night 1 is great but if I could only go to one night, I might pick night 2. Windham vs Rose has me very interested + The Masked Avenger vs Bam Bam in a loser leave town match! WOW... and let's not forget Simmons vs Hansen!!!
-
Big week for WWW... Medusa goes down in defeat but shares interview time with the winner! Very interesting.... a new babyface in town? Wow... Richter goes down in defeat! No sharing interview tine. We have not seen the last of this!
-
Great tournament! I enjoy how you use your managers to help get the heels some big wins which makes the babyfaces stay strong. Wildfire is my favorite heel in the game. Very interested if he goes it alone or if the cousins work things out. Mr. Olympia is getting back where he belongs. I did not do him justice and I am glad he is back in CCW.
-
Nice event here with the highlight for me being the 3-1 lead by the Fab Ones. Idol should have kept naming opponents other than himself for Lawler as now he might be in trouble.
-
I think your banter back and forth between the heels and Solie is well done and makes this so fun to read. I always wondered what SD Jones would have been somewhere other then the WWF which is the only place I ever so him. Like to see his push here. Great tag team going... liked the honest of Simpson and Doll about Hickerson and Duncum. I still think Simpson and Doll might come out with the belts. What will happen with Santana and Perez... fun angle here. Keep Dungan and Herc going for ever!
-
Nice update on Halloween Havoc... Also, you keep making things interesting... this week we got thrown a big Southeastern Tourny! Awsome interviews again this week. Slick and Leroy was great. The Fiesta Garden might have been the best ever. The back and forth over the stolen money was great. Glad you brought Platt and RPG back. They crack me up. What will come of Taylor & Zenk? Love Rocky Top!

The Coliseum at Mississippi State Fairgrounds: Jackson, Mississippi October 21, 1986 The show starts with a somber NWA President, Bill Watts, who informs everyone that last week, Magnum T.A. was in a serious car accident just miles from his home in Charlotte, North Carolina and that he is in serious but stable condition. Watts explains that Magnum needs all our prayers at this moment as his injuries are serious and doctors are unsure if he will ever walk again. “Folks you know there are three things I hold most dear… God, family and nation. So, let’s all stand and hold hands with whoever is next to you and show that we are all family here… that’s it… now let’s bow our heads and pray to God to give Magnum the strength he needs in the struggle of his life. Our Father…. Thank you. Now we are just 10 days away from Halloween Havoc and the NWA Board of Directors and I will meet this week to discuss the future of NWA World Title if Magnum T.A. is not be able to continue as World Champion. Folks. I truly hope this is not the situation. Please make sure to tune in to all NWA broadcasts this week and we will pass along any information we have on Magnum T.A. and Halloween Havoc. Match 1: The Rock n Roll RPM’s defeat Mark Fleming & “Cajun” Joey Jackson with a bundle of dirty tactics and a double dropkick finish. After the match, Mike Davis and Tommy Lane take the house mic and really give it to the Mid-South fans as they were booed last week after a tremendous performance and the same thing has happened tonight. They continues to throw gas on the fire as they again claimed to be the greatest Rock n Roll tag team in the history of professional wrestling. Match 2: Winner goes to the Battle Royal for the last spot in Halloween Havoc Freebird Michael Hayes defeats Mike Graham with a low blow followed by a running bulldog. Match 3: Winner goes to the Battle Royal for the last spot in Halloween Havoc Freebird Jimmy Garvin defeats Koko Ware with a brainbuster after Precious pushed Koko off the top rope as he was going for his finisher, the top rope elbow drop. After the match, Tojo Yamamota, Kendo Nagasaki and “Crusher” Rip Oliver came out and confronted Precious as they wanted their $25,000 for taking out Scott Casey. Precious immediately started to panic and blamed Terry Gordy for stealing the money. This brought out NWA President Bill Watts as he demanded to know about this so-called bounty everyone is talking about because he will suspend anyone involved in this. Tojo, Kendo and Rip change their tune quickly and start to retreat. When they are behind Precious the make the money sign with their fingers at Precious and then the slashing the throat sign to Jimmy Garvin who is truly taken off-guard by all this. Watts now turns to Precious and wants some answer. Maybe it is Watts or the threat from the three heels but Precious just takes off up the aisle crying. Watts lets everyone know that he will get to the bottom of all this. Match 4: Winner goes to the Battle Royal for the last spot in Halloween Havoc Jake “The Snake” Roberts with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie defeats Jos Leduc with a DDT. Leduc, who recently was tossed out of Sheik’s army for costing The Snake too many matches, tried his best here and held much of the momentum and even bloodied up Jake with some brutal blows. Unfortunately, he rushed into the corner too quickly. Roberts moved away at the last second and when Leduc staggered backwards, Roberts connected with the DDT. MATCH 5: Winner goes to the Battle Royal for the last spot in Halloween Havoc “Dr. Death” Steve Williams vs “Bad” LeRoy Brown with Ernie Ladd The match started with Ernie Ladd getting right in the face of ref Ron West and demanding that there not be a repeat of last week where there was obviously a double standard against his men. This brought out Bill Watts who was in no mood for Ernie Ladd demanded that Ernie Ladd immediately leave the building as it is against Mid-South and NWA rules to threaten one of their officials. He also told Ladd to check his mail for the fine $1000 fine he would be sending out. Ladd: Hey big man, this is just another example of the double standard around here. Sunshine can come down here last week and attack Precious and nothing is done about it. Terry Gordy can steal $25,000 from the purse of Precious right in front if your incompetent referees and nothing gets down about. I ask that a ref be fair and I am thrown out of building and told to look for my $1000 fine! Ridiculous. Watts: you’re right, that’s ridiculous. Look in the mail for your $2,000 fine. Say another word and it will be $3000. Ladd studders, realizes that it is not worth and leave. As for the match, we get 10 good minutes of a brawl before Dr. Death connects with the Oklahoma Stampede for the win! Match 6: Superstar Challenge Challengers get not only the titles but $50,000 of Sheik Adnan Al Kassie’s money if they win the Mid-South Tag Team Titles: The Superstars with Sheik Adnan Al Kassie vs Mid-South Champ “Soul Man” Rocky Johnson & Rufus “Freight Train” Jones When Jonhson & Jones answered the challenge, you could see the fear in the eyes of the Sheik as he thought there was a real chance of losing both his money and the titles. As for the match we get a good 18 minutes of back and forth action. In the end Freight Train knock Superstar #1 out of the ring with a big right hand. It appears that Sheik gives the Superstar some sort of object which he shoves into his mask. Rocky Johnson sees this and erupts at ref Carl Fergie to do something but he “plays” dumb. Rufus unsure of what is happening, drags Superstar into the ring… WHAM… Headbut by Rufus and down goes RUFUS! Rocky rushes in but Fergie gets in his way and demands he leaves or else his team will be disqualified. WHAM… the Superstars hit the back-breaker/elbow drop combo on Rufus and that is all she wrote. MATCH 7: Winner goes to the Battle Royal for the last spot in Halloween Havoc Terry Gordy vs “Crippler” Rip Oliver This is for the last spot in the battle royal, but Crippler has something else on his mind as he demands that Gordy give him the $25000 owed to him that Gordy stole last week from Precious. Gordy just laughs as Oliver boldly states he will take it out of Gordy’s hide! Bam Bam smirks and the brawl is underway. Oliver is game but Gordy is on a different level, and he beats Oliver from pillar to post. Problem was that Oliver seems to have new friends in Tojo and Kendo and they are tired of watching their pal take a beating. Tojo and Kendo hit the ring, bamboo canes and all… Gordy only takes a few shots before Dr. Death and SCOTT CASEY hit the ring. The crowd goes wild as it looks like Casey is fine and soon we have the babyfaces in charge of the ring and the heels leaving with the head between their knees. Not only did Oliver not qualify for the battle royal but it is now obvious that Casey is not out of wrestling and there is no bounty to collect!

I think the AWA is firing on all cylinders right now. I am enjoying the slow build to Superclash. I thought the interview with Bock , while being short, was spot on. Bock lets Steamboat know that a champion needs to get to the ring even when he gets a few bumps and bruises. Great way to give Putski a little push. Looking forward to the title match with Gagne. Nice segements with Brenda, Snuka, Dream Machine and Paul Jones, and Hennig but the promo of the night goes to Austin Idol. What a 3rd choice! Lawler better be ready! Really creative booking. Nice start to the national tag title match tourny. Still love the Bruise Brothers. If anyone gets a chance, read up on Snowman. He was one interesting dude.

Great reporting on the Magnum T.A. and Halloweeen Havoc situations. You gave a true MACW feel by showing the highlights from the week's big events including the tag title change. Good promo by Luger. Let's see if he can back up his words. Good, realistic use of Foley and Chase. I like this approach and eventually they will be ready. Best part of the show... Hank Hill and Dale Dribble show up! LOL. Hope they come back each week. Really nice card for Albany.
